The race is down to three clubs within grasp of a top two spots at the end of Round Two of the Digicel Pro League Championship to earn spots in the 2012 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, with the ultimate goal of advancing into the CONCACAF Champions’ League.

Caledonia AIA, T&TEC FC and W Connection, all currently with 18 points, not accumulating points earned against Defence Force and Police FC in Round One matches, are front runners for the top two spots.

The top two finishers after Round Two Match Day Seven will be submitted on February 8 to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the 2012 CFU Club Championship.

Meantime former CFU and Champions’ League campaigner Adam’s Construction San Juan Jabloteh, stands a slim mathematical chance which could diminish by next Tuesday’s Round Two Match Day Six slate matches with just two matches in hand and only 15 points.

Jabloteh meets Caledonia next Tuesday and Defence Force in its final match before the cut-off, and Caledonia against T&TEC in its final clash of Round Two.

T&TEC, with three matches in hand before the cut-off, could stiffen the chase on Friday night if the Dexter Cyrus coached outfit registers a victory or even a draw against Defence Force when the two teams clash from 6pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium in a rescheduled Round Two Match Day One fixture.

Connection, just as Caledonia remains with two matches; against T&TEC on Tuesday and Police in its final Round Two match.

Only six of the eight Pro League clubs were eligible to contest spots for the 2012 Caribbean Club Championship following the late starts by Defence Force and Police FC due to a three-month State of Emergency implemented by the Trinidad and Tobago Government restricting the Ministry of National Security services into full fledged duties.

Both head coaches of Defence Force and Police FC, Ross Russell and Kelvin Jones respectively, admitted that preparations for the season was hampered by the State of Emergency and would have made it difficult to contest qualifying spots in the short space of time.

While St. Ann’s Rangers and DIRECTV North East Stars in fifth and sixth on the standings with 9 and 8 points respectively are clearly out of the CFU running because of points accumulated.
