The UDC Firebird Men’s Soccer Team notched their first win of the 2008 season this afternoon, defeating the Goldey-Beacom Lightning 8-2 in Washington, DC. Freshman forward Karl Moukagna performed a hat trick while scoring four of the UDC goals to lead the team to the win.

Dwayne Smith (St. Elizabeth’s, Jamaica), Andrew Gervais (Frenchville, ME) and Henley Comrie each added a goal a piece while Jermaine West (St. Elizabeth’s, Jamaica) had three assists.

Duke University senior Mike Grella scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Blue Devils to a 3-1 victory over No. 22 Virginia Tech in the teams’ ACC men’s soccer opener. Duke pushed its win streak to three games with the Hokies being the second victory over a ranked opponent for the Blue Devils.

The Saint Leo men’s soccer team (3-2) outpaced the Georgia Southwestern University Hurricanes (0-5) by the final score of 5-0 Friday night at University Field. The Lions were led by senior Brandon Whitsett (Palm Harbor, Fla.), scoring two goals in the shutout victory. Eusebio Montoya (Smithfield, N.C.) added a goal and an assist while Jonathan Glenn (Maloney Gardens, T&T) and freshman Bobby Huertas (Lutz, Fla.)scored his first collegiate goal.

The Argos men's soccer team defeated the Georgia Southwestern State University Hurricanes 2-1 Monday afternoon in Americus, Ga. After a scoreless first half the Argos offense got on the board when Paul Willoughby (Huntsville, Ala./Grissom HS) and Christian Cabral (Trinidad and Tobago/St. Anthony's College) added their first goals of the season.
