The University of New Haven men's soccer team fell 1-5 Sunday afternoon to the Southern Connecticut State Owls in New Haven. The Chargers fall to 1-2-0 overall and drop their first Northeast-10 Conference game.

With a 0-3 deficit at the half, the Chargers had a hill to climb in the second half of their first Northeast-10 Conference game in program-history; against none other then cross-town rival, Southern Connecticut State. In the 53rd minute the Chargers found one answer, a Jelani Joslyn goal brought the score to 1-3, and within striking distance for the Chargers. In the following 22 minutes the Chargers would assault the Owls' goal with numerous scoring opportunities. However, the Chargers could not capitalize and the Owls, who found the UNH defenders on the heels, added to their lead in the 76th minute. Southern scored the game's final goal in the 81st minute.

The game was statistically lopsided as well. The biggest difference was Southern Connecticut's 18 shots, compared to the Chargers' seven shots.

The Chargers return to action, in another NE-10 Conference game, on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to St. Anselm.
