College of Charleston men's soccer player Kareem Yearwood has been named to the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List. This is the first time a College of Charleston player has ever been nominated for the award.
The Hermann Trophy Watch List consists of 48 players, including the 2007 winner, Connecticut's O'Brian White. White is looking to become the first player to repeat as Hermann Trophy winner since 1995 and 1996. Yearwood and Furman's Patrick Murray represent the Southern Conference on the watch list.
Considered the highest individual honor in college soccer, the recipients of the Hermann Trophy are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the NSCAA. The 48 players on the watch list will be narrowed down to 15 semifinalists in November, and the three finalists will be selected in early December. The winner of the Hermann Trophy will be announced on January 9, 2009, in St. Louis, Mo.
Yearwood and the rest of the College of Charleston men's soccer squad will return to action on Saturday when they visit Central Florida for an exhibition match beginning at 11 a.m. The Cougars begin their regular season on August 29th when they face off with Marshall at the adidias/Davidson Soccer Classic in Davidson, N.C.
