In a hard-fought battle Saturday, the Milligan College men's soccer team lost on the road to Lambuth University's Eagles 3-4.

The Eagles attacked early, scoring two goals in the first five minutes. After a trying first half, the Buffs were down 0-3. However, the Buffs regained intensity and returned with force in the second half.

Junior Joel Cowan (Mt. Grace, Trinidad and Tobago) scored off a free kick from junior Josh Scott (London, England) in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Scott assisted on the second goal, also, as senior Josh Stephens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) recorded the Buffs' second goal of the game.

Stephens tied up the match in the last 10 minutes with a goal assisted by senior Rasmus Willhemsson (Ytterby, Sweden).

The Eagles returned soon after to take the lead, halting the Buffs' momentum. Despite an aggressive second-half comeback, Milligan was unable to close the deal.

“We played much harder in the second half and really put the effort in,” said Head Coach Adam Laney. “If we can score three goals in one half and still lose, then we obviously still have some things we need to work on. But I am very proud of the guys and how they battled back.”

Saturday, Oct. 11, the Buffs play Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn. The match begins at 3 p.m.
