The Carson-Newman men's soccer team topped Catawba College, 4-0, Saturday night at McCown Field. With the win, the Eagles move to 8-2 and 5-0 in the SAC. Catawba falls to 3-9 and 1-3.
Carson-Newman got off to a good start in the 16th minute of the game when senior Marcus Cabralis (Trinidad and Tobago) found the back of the net off of a well-placed corner kick by freshman Ross Carhart (Pittsburgh, Penn.).
The Eagles would score again on a goal by freshman Robert Hill ( Middlesbrough, England) in the 28th minute of the game. Carhart had the assist and his second for the night.
"We played well and remained in control the whole game," continued Vital.
The Eagles kept that control and also added two more goals in the second half to get to the 4-0 win.
Cabralis found the back of the net once more in the 70th minute of the game, with sophomore Ben Backstrom (Knoxville, Tenn.) getting the assist, bringing the score to 3-0.
The final Eagle goal came from senior Alessandro Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the 72nd minute of the match after an Indian foul resulted in a free kick.
Getting the shutout for Carson-Newman was sophomore keeper Jordan Moore (Hendersonville, Tenn.). Catawba junior Tyler Held (Virginia Beach,Va.) was saddled with the loss.
"I'm proud of the guys tonight," concluded Vital, "We will take this win and now get ready for a big week coming with matches against both Tusculum and Wingate.
Carson-Newman will be back at home Wednesday night against conference rival Tusculum. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at McCown Field. Catawba will now travel to South Carolina to take on Newberry Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
