Robert Boyd scored in the 83rd minute and assisted on Luke Wilson’s game-winner in the 89th minute for a 2-1 Cumberland victory over Kentucky Wesleyan in men’s soccer action Friday in Owensboro, Ky.

Cumberland (4-11-0) snapped a five-match losing streak with the victory, the club’s first win since October 6.

KWC’s Sam Waninger put the Panthers (2-14-2) ahead with an unassisted goal in the 44th minute.

Cumberland put the pressure on in the second half, outshooting KWC, 11-5, but was unable to knot the match until Boyd scored just his second goal of the year in the 83rd minute on an assist from Robert Als. Boyd then found Wilson five minutes later for his fourth goal of the season, giving the Bulldogs a much-needed victory.

CU keeper Matthew Shattuck made four saves, while KWC goalie Ryan Samuels had six saves in net.

Cumberland plays its final regular season match of the year Tuesday at Freed-Hardeman at 7 p.m.
