The top ranked Louisville men's soccer team fell 2-1 against No. 2 North Carolina on Sunday evening in Fetzer Stadium. The loss is the Cardinals' first regular season defeat since losing to St. John's 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 17, 2009. Louisville falls to 2-1-0 on the year while the Tar Heels improve to 3-0-0.

North Carolina test the Cardinal defense early with shot high by Enzo Martinez in the first minute and 30 seconds later Billy Schuler had a shot go wide. Senior All-American Austin Berry got the first shot on goal of the contest in the third minutes. Berry took Kenney Walker's corner kick and headed it in the goal but UNC keeper Scott Goodwin collected the ball for the save.

The game continued to get physical with a lot of fouls called over the next 20 minutes. North Carolina had their first shot on goal when Matt Hedges headed the ball in but Andre Boudreaux grabbed it for the save. Walker played a diagonal ball behind the defense to Nick DeLeon who got to the corner of the 18 and slipped the ball past the keeper to put the Cards up 1-0 in the 33rd minute.

Freshman Isaiah Trejo had a shot go wide in the 35th minute. The Tar Heels scored the equalizer when Rob Lovejoy shot a through ball at the top of the 18 in the 38th minute. Neither team was able to get into a flow the final seven minutes to create any opportunities. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie.

Once again the Tar Heel offense clicked early with Lovejoy sending a shot wide in the first minute of play. Martinez had a shot in the 54th minute but Boudreaux collected it for the save. UNC kept possession early in the half, with another wide shot in the 55th minute and a blocked shot in the 59th minute. During that period seven fouls were called, five to the Cardinals and two on the Tar Heels.
