The Manhattanville men's soccer team looked to remain undefeated after this afternoon's non-conference contest and they did just that by shutting out NYU-Poly, 2-0, on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

The Valiants (5-0-0) dominated throughout the first half by getting plenty of scoring chances and had near-constant possession of the ball. They got on the scoreboard at 24:20 into the first half thanks to junior Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding), as he took a pass from freshman Yani Quinteros (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) inside the box and softly tipped the ball past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for his Division III-leading ninth goal of the season.

Manhattanville was in shut down mode defensively in the first half, as the team allowed only one shot attempt in the entire half. At halftime, the Valiants already had 13 shot attempts.

The home team struck again in the second half, as Quinteros and sophomore Kyle Cassidy (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) set up senior Keston George (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad & Tobago/Victory Christian Academy) for his fifth goal of the year at 73:40. Quinteros fed a nice cross along the box to Cassidy at the near endline, and he fed back to the top of the box for a blast by the senior captain. George also got an assist on Olazabal's goal earlier in the game, giving him a game-high three points.

In the second half, NYU-Poly (0-5-1) was only able to execute two shot attempts and none of them were on net as they could not break through Manhattanville's defense. NYU-Poly goalkeeper Brendan Finn stopped seven Valiant shots on net as the Valiants outshot NYU-Poly 19-3 during the 90 minutes of play.

Manhattanville had seven corner kick opportunities during the game with six of the seven occurring in the first half, while NYU-Poly executed four corner kicks. Three of those four opportunities occurred within the first 45 minutes of play.

The undefeated Valiants of Manhattanville are back in action on Saturday, when they look to tie the best start to a season in program history against the defending Empire 8 Conference Champion Stevens Ducks. The game begins at 7 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field, with live video coverage starting at 6:55 p.m. on GoValiants.TV.
