The Cougars of Medgar Evers College rallied with four second-half goals to defeat the Baruch College Bearcats, 4-2, in a CUNYAC contest played on a very windy Saturday afternoon at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York.

The visiting Bearcats (6-8-1, 4-3-1 CUNYAC) played a strong first half with the wind behind them and scored the first goal in surprising fashion.

Goalkeeper Michael Murphy scored a rare goal by hitting a goal kick that traveled the length of the field, took one high bounce, and entered the net for the 1-0 lead with 20:38 left in the first half.

Akil George scored his sixth goal of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the first half on a penalty kick for the 2-0 halftime advantage.

During the second half, Medgar Evers scored four times to complete the comeback victory with two goals scored each by Zeakiel Daley and Mohamed Jalloh.

Baruch out-shot the Cougars 16-3 in the first half, but the Cougars won the shooting battle in the second half with a 13-5 advantage.

The men’s soccer team will now await the outcomes of the remaining conference matches to be played by other opponents to help decide the final standings and appropriate seeding for the CUNYAC Championship Tournament that will get underway on Wednesday, October 26.

As soon as the schedule is available, it will be posted.
