Devon Caseman fired in a last-minute penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw for champion side Joe Public against Crab Connection in the Sportworld National Super Football League at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Tunapuna, on Wednesday.
With Police losing 2-0 to fourth-placed Superstar Rangers earlier in the day, leaders Joe Public and Crab Connection had a chance to take sole possession of top spot.
With the point earned, Crab Connection now leads on goal-difference from Police, the teams having 22 points each while Joe Public and Rangers are next with 21 each.
Marlon Warner handed Crab an early lead at Macoya when he netted in the seventh minute. That lead lasted until the 51st minute when Wolrey Wolfe tied the score for the Easter Lions.
Brian Wallace regained Connection the lead in the 66th minute and it seemed as though that would be enough for the team to take maximum three points from the match, until Caseman struck in the dying seconds from the penalty spot.
Crab Connection goalkeeper Edward Bernard needlessly bundled over Jamaican Roen Nelson in the penalty-area and Caseman obliged from the spot to garner a point for his club.
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium, in Bacolet, Tobago, Angostura 1976 Phoenix also needed some late heroics to get a share of the points against Plipdeco Caroni in a 3-3 draw.
Lejandro Williams kicked Phoenix into a 30th-minute lead while Hadyen Vincent got the Tobago team on even terms three minutes before the interval.
Seven minutes after the restart, Ryan Dipsingh put Caroni ahead for the first time, before Dominique Kerr levelled the score in the 68th minute. Kyle Cupid scored four minutes later to put Caroni ahead once more, only to see Hayden Moses get an 88th-minute goal to tie the score for Phoenix.
Anthony Thompson got two goals and Quami Knights and Jason Marcano one each to lead Rotiv Couva Players United, over M&M Harvard 4-2 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.
