Oliver CampsTrinidad and Tobago Football Federation President Oliver Camps in his end of year message has stated that he’s hoping to for better results from National Teams and better conditions in order for them to go after much needed success in 2011.

Camps, accepting that the circumstance surrounding the Men’s Senior Team in 2010 painted a dim picture of football in T&T for the year, said there was still other successful matters which left a sense of hope heading into the new year.

“It’s been a difficult and trying year for the Football Federation and to some extent football in general but we have completed a calendar which saw us successfully host the 2010 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup and much kudos must be given to all of those who participated in the hosting from the sponsors, the members of the Local Organizing Committee, all other officials and FIFA Vice President Jack Warner for his efforts in the whole undertaking,” Camps said.

“Last but certainly not least we have to applaud the performances of our Women’s under 17 team for their efforts in attaining the first victory in a World Cup at any level by this country and in that regard, we now look forward to continued development and success of our women’s teams.”

Camps noted that the TTFF will be leaving no stone unturned to try and get the men’s team back to where it belongs as one of the potent  teams in Concacaf and the leader in the Caribbean.

“It is no secret now that we have slipped way below what is expected from us a team on the world stage and in fact now the regional stage.

Our performance was disappointing by all means in the Digicel Cup but we will not just point fingers at the players or the coaches but I must add that as a Federation we are committed towards the task of rebuilding and charting that journey that will see our football rise again.

It will be no easy journey but we must ensure all conditions are right for this to occur as we set out on our attempt to qualify for Brazil 2014,” Camps added.

“The men’s under 17 and under 20 team came through the regional qualification tournament with relative ease and we look forward with great interest to the Concacaf final stage in 2011 where we will try to overcome the final hurdle in qualifying for the respective youth World Cups in Mexico and Colombia.

“We must realize that the efforts of Jack Austin Warner as our special adviser has been countless and has taken tremendous headache away from the Federation but it will be remiss of us if we expect him to keep going on in such generous manner on his own.

He is a man of many hats now with, much more responsibility to country and we have to be thankful for his commitment to football and we must have ways now to compliment that,” Camps added.

“We depend also from sponsors as well as grants from the Government and FIFA to carry out programmes for which we are truly grateful but again, several of the officials in the TTFF are not fully or monthly paid workers.

On this note I want to thank those who have served for their contributions under difficult conditions. It is my hope that in 2011 we continue to strengthen our relationships both with our partners and all personnel within the fraternity including our coaches, players and all supporters,” Camps concluded.
