Glenavon manager Colin Malone said there is a "slim chance" that new signing David Atiba Charles would get to grips with Peter Thompson and Glenn Ferguson tonight.

The Trinidad & Tobago defender has agreed to join Malone's revolution at Mourneview Park, but paperwork delays could end his hopes of frustrating the Irish Premier League's top predators.

A work permit has been obtained for the player and Glenavon officials have faxed the required information to the British High Commission in Port-of-Spain to enable him to obtain the necessary visa.

He was expected to arrive in Northern Ireland this morning and Malone hasn't given up hope of throwing him straight into CIS Cup action against the Blues at Windsor Park.

"There is an outside chance - a slim chance we will get the green light from the IFA but I doubt it," said Malone.

"After watching videos and reading about him on the Internet it would be nice to see him in a Glenavon shirt.

"To have a player of that calibre at the club will give everyone a lift. A lot of people have worked hard to secure the deal - and keep it quiet in case another club came in for him."

Ross Black is ruled out of tonight's game with a virus and Malone admits the timing of his side's battle with Linfield has not helped his rebuilding plans.

"A game at Windsor Park and against Linfield is always special - there is certainly no motivation required," he said.

"However a lot of my new players are still in their settling in period. But I firmly believe we will turn the corner sooner rather than later."

JIM Hagan will include American midfielder PJ Scheufele in his squad for tonight's CIS Cup trip to Lisburn Distillery - but he may have to wait for his debut.

The Larne manager has been busy this week, signing Australian-born 20-year-old Chris O'Hara and snapping up former Millwall defender Mark Hicks who was also interesting Portadown and Donegal Celtic.

Those two won't be pressed into action just yet though and it is wait and see on Scheufele.

"We've started quite well and although we lost to Linfield we did very well for 75 minutes of that game," said Hagan.

"That was a very encouraging performance and we carried that into last week's game away to Glenavon when we won 3-0.

"Distillery are a team I like, they are as good as most of the league teams on their day."
