Gillingham goalkeeper Kelvin Jack has denied reports from the Carribean suggesting he could be sidelined for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury.

The Trinidad & Tobago international has been struggling with tendonitis for some months and said that "the timing is right to take care of the injury and put an end to it" following the Gills' loan signing of Charlton's fellow stopper Darren Randolph.

In the report, Jack said he was ready to put his feet up until completely clear of the persistent injury, but he has now moved to dispel fears that he may be out for several weeks.

He said: "All I am focusing on at the moment is regaining fitness, and at the moment I am fighting tooth and nail to be fit for Saturday's match against Blackpool, anything that happens after that, I will focus on then.

"There is another 'keeper here now and I have to be on my toes, so I am just desperate to get back to full fitness and repay the gaffer for the faith he's shown in me. I'm continuing to work with (club physiotherapist) Simon Webster, and it's really a day-to-day thing."

Meanwhile, the Gills' home game with Scunthorpe on Friday, September 1, has been postponed after Jack and defender Brent Sancho were called up by the Soca Warriors, and Andrew Crofts by Wales, with a rearranged date yet to be announced.
