Kansas City was busy adding speed to its roster in today's MLS SuperDraft. Third round pick, former Old Dominion forward Edson Elcock, is known as a player with top-flight pace and creativity.

"He is a player we rated very, very highly who can play either wide midfield or up top," Head Coach Curt Onalfo said. "The thing we liked most about Edson is he is always looking to get behind the opposing defense by using his excellent speed. We look forward to watching him develop into a very good MLS player."

Kansas City was thrilled to select Elcock, a player they had rated much higher than 29th overall, at the beginning of the third round.

"We're really excited about his attacking abilities," Technical Director Peter Vermes said. "We were very interested in taking him earlier on in the draft, so it was great that he was available in the third round. We feel very fortunate to have selected him."

Elcock, who hails from Brooklyn, New York, was selected first team All-American by NSCAA/adidas in 2006 and is confident he will be able to contribute to the team.

"My strengths are my intensity, creativity and speed," Elcock said. "I am willing to do anything to help the team get better."

Elcock led Old Dominion and the Colonial Athletic Association in 2006 with 11 goals and six assists for 28 total points. He earned first team All-CAA honors as well as first team NSCAA All-Regional honors. Elcock had two game-winning goals as he helped lead the Monarchs to a 14-6-2 record and the third round of the NCAA College Cup.

Elcock becomes the third Trinidad and Tobago national in Wizards history, joining 2006 leading goal scorer Scott Sealy and former forward Gary Glasgow. He turned 22 years old on Wednesday.
