Two international trialists will join the Dynamo's training session Tuesday morning, head coach Dominic Kinnear confirmed Monday, the first two of several players coming to Houston in hopes of earning roster spots for the 2011 season.
Midfielder Lester Peltier, a Trinidad & Tobago international, and forward Steven Morrissey, currently the leading scorer in Jamaica, arrive in Houston on Monday. Other players are expected to join the club on trial as their availability dictates.
Peltier, 22, has nine caps and one goal for Trinidad & Tobago despite his young age. He played at San Juan Jabloteh from 2006-09 and made his full international debut in January 2008 at the age of 19 after a decorated youth international career.
Peltier was reportedly set to transfer to English Premier League club Portsmouth in 2007, but he could not obtain a work permit. He currently plays for Ma Pau SC in Trinidad & Tobago.
Morrissey, 24, has netted 10 goals this season to lead the Jamaican Premier League. He has yet to earn his first cap for the full Jamaican national team, but he represented his country at the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the 2005 CONCACAF U-20 Championship. He is currently in the midst of the Premier League schedule in Jamaica with Portmore United.
Both players could stay with the Dynamo through the February 12 friendly against FC Dallas in Corpus Christi. Last year, the Dynamo signed Jamaican Lovel Palmer from his club, Harbour View, after two successful trial stints.
The Dynamo's training schedule for the week has shifted somewhat; the club will conduct two sessions on Wednesday and take Thursday off before returning to the practice field on Friday.
Saturday's scrimmage against Houston Baptist University will take place at HBU's Sorrels Field at 10 a.m. HBU head coach Steve Jones said only underclassmen will play for the Huskies, with the exception of senior goalkeeper Chris Dodd, who has professional aspirations.
