Quarter-miler Renny Quow and 400-metre hurdler Josanne Lucas made it a Tobago one-two on Tuesday, copping the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year titles respectively at the 16th Annual Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee Awards Ceremony at the Cascadia Hotel and Conference Centre, St Ann’s.

Lucas became the first woman from T&T to medal in a major World track and field event when she grabbed bronze in her pet event at the World Championships in Athletics in August in Berlin, Germany. At the same Games, Quow, who had also been steadily improving during the 2009 season, also bagged bronze in the one-lap event. Port of Spain, Trinidad: World championship bronze medalists Josanne Lucas and Renny Quow continue to be honoured for their historic performance at the 2009 World Championships of Athletics in Berlin, Germany last August.

The pair won the FCB Sports Foundation Sportswoman and Sportsman awards for 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain on Wednesday( 3rd March) evening. The honour is the highest accolade for sports in Trinidad and Tobago.

Josanne became the first T and T female to medal at the Olympic/World level after she crossed the line third in the women’s 400m hurdles finals in a national record time of 53.20 seconds. The 25 year old finished behind Olympic champion Melaine Walker of Jamaica who clocked 52.42 seconds (second fastest time ever) and USA’s Lashinda Demus (52.96 secs).

Quow produced a storming finish to grab third in the men’s 400m finals in 45.02 secs behind the US pair of La Shawn Merritt (44.06 secs) and Jeremy Wariner (44.60 secs).

Earlier this year, Lucas and Quow were named top track and field athletes by the Trinidad and Tobago Athletic Body (NAAA) and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee Sports personalities for 2009.

Josanne was present for the award but Renny is at school in the US and was unable to attend.

Jehue seems to be a level-headed guy. Maybe some peeps who are close to the TF fratenity could give us some insights.

Jai, How come the Secondary school sports end in darkness. The meet was in the Savannah?

Jehue is one  the most dedicated, level headed and humble person I know. Nothing has gotten to is head I assure you . I see him in training working his socks off and the members of his track club really look up to him. He is an outstanding young man  which is in short supply in the republic and when you talk to him he has no airs. You should have seen the under 13 and down children  palancing when he won his race ..he is something of a cult hero with the youth.
He is from a humble family and takes his maxi and taxi just like the other youths from Morne coco rd. No big boy thing here ...
The head coach is forever praising ihm yet he is often seated among the peeps at club talks . Just to show how environment helps ...the Club Memphis Pioneers is having its annual thanksgivin service this saturday at guardian bldg in west moorings ...I will be there . It is so important for adults, even for those parents who aren't adults,( could not resist )  to be there for the younger ones.
Jehue has been training using the 400 metrs flat and 110 meters hurdles to sharpen for his pet event the 400 hurdles.
He has this amazing presence on the track  ...something akin to Alberto Juantorena ( for the old folks like me ) ..and looks ordinary off it.
About the darkness in de National stadium ...the show ran late and athletes could not run in the dark ...you would think the organisers would have had an arrangement for the stadium lights to go on if such a thing occured ??...anyway next time ..not so ?..dais how we does do it right ?
