Title: Paul de Octopus!!

Paul de Octopus picking Spain
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2010/SPORT/football/07/06/germany.octopus.semifinal/t1larg.paul.afp.gi.jpg)

I noticed that Paul de Octupus usually picks the box on the right!

So all they have to do if they want Spain to win is to replace the Germany flag with a Holland flag!

If he goes for the right-hand box once again regardless of where they place the Dutch or Spanish flag then my theory is correct, i.e. he prefers the right-hand box!

What allyuh think? Any bets on?!  :D

Paul de Octupus has two more World Cup games left to predict Germany vs Uruguay and Holland vs Spain.

Now allyuh watch his movements and see what I telling allyuh.

There is money to be made on this, any takers?  ;)

Thanks for that extra info but my theory still looks to be true, he usually goes for the box on the right!

So there you have it folks, Paul de Octupus has picked Germany to win the 3rd place play off and Spain to win the final for 1st place!  ;)

Let the betting begin, I going with Paul on both counts, any takers?!  8)

Title: Real Unfortunate News
Post by: rotatopoti3 on October 26, 2010, 05:34:06 AM
Paul the Octopus, who rose to prominence for his accurate predictions of Germany's matches, has died at the age of 2.

Said to have been born in January 2008 in Weymouth, England, the octopus predicted the correct result of all but two of Germany's games during Euro 2008, failing to predict the defeats to Croatia and Spain.

At this summer's World Cup, he maintained a 100% record, getting all Germany's results right before opting for Spain to beat Netherlands in the final.

The octopus would select teams by choosing a food item from one of two boxes emblazoned with the respective countries' flags. He was given a replica World Cup trophy, garnished with three mussels, for his efforts during the tournament in South Africa.

Stefan Porwoll, manager of the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre in Germany that housed Paul, said: "We are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here and that the care provided him by our dedicated displays team could not have been bettered.

"His success made him almost a bigger story than the World Cup itself. We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine.

"While this may seem a curious thing to do for a sea creature, Paul achieved such popularity during his short life that it may be deemed the most appropriate course of action."

His owners rejected offers from bookmakers for Paul after the World Cup as they wanted him to "step back from the official oracle business", but his final prediction was that England would win the rights to host the 2018 World Cup.

Paul, the World Cup predicting octopus, dies at 2½

DID HE SEE IT COMING?: Paul the octopus, pictured successfully predicting Spain to beat the Netherlands in the 2010 final of football's World Cup, has died.

Paul, the World Cup predicting octopus, dies at 2½

Paul the Octopus, the tentacled tipster who fascinated soccer fans by predicting results at the World Cup, died overnight (NZ time).

Paul had reached the octopus old age of 2½ years and died in his tank on Tuesday morning (local time) at the Sea Life aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, spokeswoman Ariane Vieregge said.

Paul correctly tipped the outcome of all seven of Germany's games. He made his predictions by opening the lid of one of two clear plastic boxes, each containing a mussel and bearing a team flag.

The octopus seemed to be in good shape when he was checked the previous day, but he did not make it through the night. He died of natural causes, Vieregge said.

"We had all naturally grown very fond of him and he will be sorely missed," Sea Life manager Stefan Porwoll said in a statement.

The aquarium has not yet decided how best to commemorate their most famous resident, he said.

"We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds, and erect a modest permanent shrine," Porwoll said.

After rising to global prominence during the World Cup in South Africa in June and July, Paul retired from the predictions business after the final between Spain and the Netherlands - correctly picking Spain - and returned to his primary role of intriguing children who attend the aquarium.

The invertebrate was stepping "back from the official oracle business," Tanja Munzig, a spokeswoman for the Sea Life, told AP Television News at the time.

"He won't give any more oracle predictions - either in football, nor in politics, lifestyle or economy," she said. "Paul will get back to his former job, namely making children laugh."

After his World Cup soothsaying skills were revealed, the English-born Paul was appointed as an ambassador to England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. He had English roots, having been hatched at Weymouth Sea Life Center on England's south coast in 2008.

Imitators sprang up all over the world, including Mani the Parakeet in Singapore and Lorenzo the Parrot in Hannover, Germany.

The latest was a saltwater crocodile named Dirty Harry, who predicted Spain's World Cup final win and called the result of Australia's general election by snatching a chicken carcass dangling beneath a caricature of Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

"El Pulpo Paul" became so popular in Spain that the northwestern Spanish town of O Carballino tried to borrow him and made him an "honorary friend."

Paul, who had an agent, got hundreds of requests to go to Spain. The Madrid Zoo asked Sea Life if it would be willing to make a deal to bring him in as a tribute to the Spanish soccer team's victory, either temporarily or for good. But the German aquarium turned down that offer, too.

Paul's name will live on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where a permanent sea turtle rescue center funded in part by donations generated by the famous octopus is being established

Paul the Octopus, who rose to worldwide fame for correctly predicting the winner of several World Cup 2010 games, died at the age of 2 1/2.

As Cindy Boren explains:

The lifeless body of the octopus was discovered in his tank early Tuesday morning, according to a spokesman at the Sea Life Aquarium in Oberhausen, Germany.

"He appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes, and we are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here," Stefan Porwoll, manager of the aquarium, told the Daily Mail, nipping conspiracy theories in the bud.

Steven Goff of Soccer Insider reported:

A moment of silence for Paul the Octopus, the World Cup prognosticator who gained international fame over the summer. He passed away of natural causes at age 2 1/2.
