EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea try to nick non-League starlet Carr from under Liverpool noses
By SAMI MOKBEL

Chelsea have hijacked Liverpool's attempts to land the hottest non-League talent in the country.
Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Tuesday how the Anfield club had invited 18-year-old Daniel Carr, who plays for Dulwich Hamlet, for a trial.
Carr, who started his career at Reading, was on Merseyside on Thursday, training with the club's academy hoping to impress Reds coaches enough to earn a professional contract.

On target: Liverpool have handed a trial to 18-year-old non-League star Danny Carr

However, the Stamford Bridge club have now made their move to land Carr.
The current Champions League holders have spoken directly with officials from the Ryman Division One South club about inviting Carr to train with the Blues.
Carr was said to be flattered by the high-profile interest in him, but had not made a definitive decision on his future.
Liverpool and Chelsea are among 14 clubs to have made enquiries for the talented teenager, with both Manchester clubs also said to be interested.

Drive my Carr: The youngster has already bagged 23 goals this season

Carr is viewed as one of the brightest prospects outside the professional game having bagged 23 goals in as many matches for the south London outfit this season.
He had an unsuccessful trial at Leeds United during the summer but came close to joining Championship rivals Charlton earlier this season after impressing Chris Powell during a trial.
But that deal collapsed over financial issues between Hamlet and the Addicks.
Nurtured as a winger, Dulwich manager Gavin Rose has transformed Carr into a central striker this season with blistering results.

Champion Hill: The small ground in south-east London where Carr plays for Dulwich Hamlet
Dulwich ideally want to keep Carr until the end of the season as they look to win promotion, but know they will struggle to keep him if a big club make a firm offer.
Rose said: ‘At his age it is potential. But if he is taken by the right club and works hard he can play at the top level.
‘We’ve got to be careful that Daniel isn’t caught up in a circus. The important thing if he does go is that he goes to a club that really wants him.

‘We have reinvented him. He has only played here as a striker and he is a totally different player. He has got great movement and is very clever.
‘Daniel is decent technically, beats people on his own and scores all types of goals.’
Peter Crouch, Ian Wright and Alan Pardew have all played for Dulwich Hamlet.

Daniel was supposed to try out with our under 20 two years ago under vranes  not sure what happened  ..And we sure could have used him with this under 20 team ......

http://www.socawarriors.net/forum/index.php?topic=52783.0

Vranes made eight substitutions at the half plus a ninth change early in the second half. North American invitees  goalkeepers Greg Ranjitsingh and Stefan Berkely, midfielder sMalcolm Manswell and Kester Guichard as well as  Ryan Mcleod were also in the squad.
Joining the squad for training in two weeks will be midfielder Daniel Carr of the Reading FC Academy and Canadian based duo Skylar Thomas, a defender and another Canadian-based defender Rudy James. (Feb 10,2011)

Now he is playing as a striker had bagged 23 goals and would most likely be moving on next season ....

Realistically, not one of you fellas would have said yeah he is worthy playing in some bush team to represent T&T..NOW..... he shining everybody is a genius.

Liverpool will not follow up their interest in non-league striker Daniel Carr after he struggled to make an impact while appearing in the Under-21's 3-3 draw with West Ham.

The Liverpool Echo has reported that the trialist was largely ineffective and was replaced on the hour mark by Adam Morgan. Carr has now returned to Ryman League Division One South side Dulwich Hamlet.

Daniel Carr has returned to his non league club after his trial with Liverpool. [Dulwich Hamlet]
The 18-year-old had come to Liverpool's attention after impressing for the non-league outfit where he scored 23 goals in just 23 appearances. He had previously been on the books of Reading but was released in the summer and was converted from a winger into a striker.

Carr was handed the chance to train with the Liverpool youth side but it seems the step up to competitive action may simply have been too much as he failed to make a significant impact.

It has always been my view that if a youngster has not developed with a Premier League Club, they should never make their first big move to a top 10 club. There are some exceptions to this rule, but I would not recommend taking the gamble.

I have personally seen "wonderkids" move from lower leagues to EPL and kill their career. Often it is the selling club who are desperate for cash who advise the boys to move to EPL. One example is Corbett who moved from Gillingham to Blackburn Rovers (when they were a big side). He was a great player, but no way mature enough for the EPL. The big money plus lack of playing time in the reserves led to total burn out and loss of fitness.

Why join a club where you are battling with 6 or 7 players for one spot, some of whom may be internationals?

My advice, and I gave this to Matty Jarvis and his parents, is to go to a promotion chasing Championship team or a mid table EPL club. In Jarvis case I suggested at the time Birmingham City or Wolves. I was pleased to see he went to Wolves, won promotion and was selected for England.

Joining a professional team in T&T is not an easy step up, as many players will tell you. Joining a professional team in Europe is much harder, even in English League Two! To jump straight into a club like Chelsea, Man U, Man City etc, only the absolute best will survive....and they may not be the best ability wise, but mentally and emotionally strong.

TOWN SIGN DANIEL CARR

Teenage forward joins from Dulwich Hamlet

Huddersfield Town has today completed the signing of teenage striker Daniel Carr from Dulwich Hamlet for a small undisclosed fee.

The 18 year-old has netted 24 goals for the Isthmian League Division One South side this season.

Carr was on trial with Liverpool before joining up with Town’s First Team squad for a three day training spell at the National Football Centre, St. George’s Park, ahead of the npower Championship game against Hull City.

He will complete the season at Dulwich Hamlet and has put pen to paper on a two year contract with the Terriers, with the Club having an option on a further year.

5’ 11” Carr will work with Senior Professional Development Coach Steve Eyre in the Development Squad.

Huddersfield Town Manager Mark Robins believes Carr has real potential:

“The Club has done really well to get to the front of the queue for Daniel given the level of interest in him, as well as the calibre of interested parties; we have been very proactive in making this deal happen.

“I would also like to thank Dulwich Hamlet and their Manager Gavin Rose for the way they have dealt with this deal.

“Daniel is a goalscorer and has terrific feet; I can see him playing up front and out wide. His task now is to continue his progression and development as a player for the rest of the season and once he joins us in the summer.

“His addition to the squad is in line with the Club’s policy of signing players with potential.”

Daniel was previously at the Reading Academy from 16 to 18 years old during the professional development phase and joined Dulwich Hamlet in September following his release from the Madejski Stadium.

He has also trained with the Trinidad and Tobago Under-20 squad.

This is a good move for Carr. He should get plenty of minutes on the pitch and that will allow him to develop and prove himself. Chances are, if he can score 10 goals before January, he'll be picked up by a club such as Wigan, Stoke etc for a few million.

Well, yes, but I feel that those two clubs have the money and the need to strengthen, while Huddersfield may need more cash to improve their squad next season.

Daniel Carr opens his account in Town colours

Daniel Carr opened his Town account at Bootham Crescent with a well taken goal as the Terriers drew with League 2 York City.

The former Dulwich Hamlet youngster connected well with Sean Scannell’s cross to level the scores after poor defending in the first half had seen Wes Fletcher fire the home side ahead.

It was more of the same for Mark Robins in terms of selection at York City as Town continued their build up towards the 2013/14 Championship season.

The same team who played impressively during the first half at Chesterfield were given another chance to stake their claims for a starting berth come August 3.

However, if the first five minutes were anything to go by they were going to have to improve rapidly as poor defending allowed League 2 York to open the scoring. Neat interplay between Nigel Worthington’s front pairing freed striker Wes Fletcher who slotted home calmly.

Prior to that left-back Jake Carroll had to make a smart clearance at the back post after Jack Hunt had been rounded on the by-line.

At the other end, Adam Hammill was up to his old tricks with ball at feet and at times had York’s full-backs in a twist during the opening quarter. It was his cross in the ninth minute which almost brought Town level, but Michael Ingham did well to deny Martin Paterson in the air.

Ingham was in the action again a few minutes later as Town began to up the ante. James Vaughan collected Adam Clayton’s ball with his back to goal and after turning sharply forced York’s stopper into a fine low save.

However, the ‘keeper was beaten all ends up in the 21st minute and had his post to thank for preventing Hammill levelling the scores. Ward had earlier done well to set the ball up nicely for the former Wolves man whose full volley flicked the post before going behind.

In terms of chances, that was the final one of the half for both teams. Town, in soaring heat, tried to be positive and dominate the ball, but at times overplayed and were caught in possession by a well drilled York outfit.

The chances were back again at the start of the second 45, but they were all in favour of the home team who had once again started well. Firstly, goalscorer Fletcher curled over from the edge of the area before a good chance was headed over in the box.

Just like in the first, once five minutes of the second half had elapsed Town began to play – and almost to great effect when Ward drove and went past York’s last man, but his shot from the angle was tame.

Robins introduced both Sean Scannell and Oliver Norwood during the opening twenty minutes of the half and the former wasted no time in reminding the Town fans of what he is all about. The former Crystal Palace man left three York defenders in his wake with 68 minutes gone before the ball made its way to Ward on the right, whose shot was blocked well.

By the time the 75th minute had passed Town’s XI was almost unrecognisable from the start of the game with only Murray Wallace and Alex Smithies still on the pitch. And it was Smithies who was the next Town player in action as he sprawled across his line to palm away Ashley Chambers’ goal bound effort.

Paul Dixon had looked impressive since his introduction in the second half and it was his assist which earned Town their equaliser. The defender twisted his marker in, then out, before crossing deep to the waiting Daniel Carr who side footed home with aplomb in front of the travelling Town fans.

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):

Alex Smithies; Jake Carroll (Paul Dixon, 71), Joel Lynch (Tom Smith, 26), Murray Wallace, Jack Hunt (Peter Clarke, 75); Keith Southern (Matt Crooks, 75), Adam Clayton (Jordan Sinnott, 75); Adam Hammill (Sean Scannell, 58), Martin Paterson (Oliver Norwood, 62), Danny Ward (Kallum Higginbotham, 72); James Vaughan (Daniel Carr, 75)

Huddersfield Town boss Mark Robins hoping former Dulwich Hamlet striker Danny Carr will come to the fore in Championship football this season

http://www.examiner.co.uk/sport/football/news/huddersfield-town-boss-mark-robins-5372667

“I like what I have seen of him because he’s got a trick, he can do the unexpected, go past people and finish," says boss

Opportunity knocks for Huddersfield Town young gun Danny Carr this season.

That’s the message from manager Mark Robins as Town prepare for today’s final pre-season friendly against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park (3.00).

Robins, himself a striker in his illustrious playing career, sees plenty of potential in the 19-year-old summer signing from Dulwich Hamlet and hopes Town will feel the benefit as the 2013-14 Championship programme unfolds.

It’s the same message for other emerging hopefuls like Matt Crooks, Jake Carroll and Jordan Sinnott, while Carr is the one supporters believe could prove a trump card alongside fellow frontmen James Vaughan, Martin Paterson and Jon Stead.

“Danny Carr has done really well so far and he is keen to work on his game,” said Robins, whose side open their Championship programme against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in exactly a week.

“I like what I have seen of him because he’s got a trick, he can do the unexpected, go past people and finish – which is great.

“He beats himself up a little bit too much at the moment, because he is so self critical and wants to do well, but he’s also got a lot of youthful exuberance which is fantastic.

“I’m sure his confidence will grow, too, the more he sticks the ball in the back of the net, and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Robins feels the development squad has plenty more to offer as well and advised fans to keep an eye on the teenage players coming through.

“There are one or two I don’t want to name because I don’t want to put undue pressure on them, but we have some interesting talent waiting in the wings,” he said.

“Some have been in the system for a while and there are other, younger ones, as well who I am hoping will show themselves to be worthy of a shirt when they are ready.”

Daniel Carr at the double for Eyre’s men

A superb first half display earned Town’s U21s their second successive victory of the season at Crewe on Monday afternoon.

Steve Eyre’s men went in at the half-time interval 4-1 to the good after Duane Holmes, Cristian Lopez and Daniel Carr (x2) had all netted.

With the international break looming Steve Eyre was able to call upon a number of first team players as Town’s U21s looked to build upon last week’s impressive victory against Leeds.

Eyre was without Matt Crooks, though, who suffered an illness through the night and was only deemed fit enough for the bench.

Town, with Danny Ward down the left, almost caught Crewe cold in the second minute, but Spanish striker Cristian Lopez was unable to head the winger’s cross on target.

Eyre’s men had the goal their early play deserved inside ten minutes, though, when Duane Holmes raced onto Dale Hopson’s pass and beat the home team’s ‘keeper at his near post.

Crewe, with former Premier League striker Nathan Ellington leading the line, responded well and were deservedly level on the score board when Ian Bennett was beaten from 12 yards after Town had failed to clear their lines.

The Terriers’ lead was restored midway through the second 45 when Cristian Lopez fired home excellently from the edge of the box before Daniel Carr’s quick-fire double meant that Town went in at the break 4-1 up.

The second half was far more even as Crewe restricted Town in the midfield area and looked more of an attacking threat. Despite that, the best effort they could muster with just twenty minutes to go was a free-kick from Ellington which flew over Bennett’s cross bar.

Town’s best chance of the half fell to Carr who was prevented his hat trick by a smart, one handed save, from Crewe’s stopper.

Crewe did grab a consolation in the final minute of the game courtesy of an own goal.

Town’s team (4-4-2):

Ian Bennett; Tommy Smith (c), Murray Wallace, James Burke, Dale Hopson (Joe Wilkinson, 79); Danny Ward (Paul Mullin, 68), Oscar Gobern, Duane Holmes, Max Leonard; Cristian Lopez, Daniel Carr

Unused substitutes:

Ed Wilzcysnki, Matt Cro

Carr and Cristian grab braces in dominant victory
http://www.htafc.com/news/article/first-team-news-wednesday-21-mr-1045623.aspx

Daniel Carr and Cristian Lopez continued their good form in front of goal as Steve Eyre’s U21s recorded their third victory of the season.

The strikers’ goals came after Franck Betra had given Wednesday an early lead at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Owls’ frontmen did well to work a neat one two, but Town’s defence stood off them and allowed it to happen as Franck Betra raced past the covering Paul Dixon and slotted neatly under Lloyd Allinson.

The shock of falling behind kicked Steve Eyre’s men into gear as Daniel Carr went close twice from successive corners with ten minutes played.

Tommy Smith headed straight at Owls stopper Aaron Jameson before Duane Holmes played in an inviting cross which Town failed to convert as their supremacy in the match continued.

Matt Crooks and Paul Dixon failed to find the target with shots before the breakthrough eventually came. Holmes’ sliced volley fell at the feet of Carr who provided Cristian Lopez with a tap-in from three yards.

Wednesday were noticeably bigger than Town all over the pitch and caused Town problems from set-plays during the opening 45. In the 33rd minute Allinson displayed his agility to push wide Taylor McKenzie’s powerful header.

Keith Southern was playing his first game since injury in pre-season and was looking calm and composed in the centre of the park.

His composure was clearly having an effect on his teammates as they started the second half patiently before firing three goals in six minutes. Cristian doubled his own tally with another three yard tap-in after Carr had spun well in the box and hit the post.

Carr then grabbed the goals that his play had deserved with a quick fire double. His first was courtesy of great play between Crooks and Cristian and his second was thanks to a superb piece of individual play by Holmes who crossed for Carr to volley home.

Wednesday never recovered and it was Town who continued to look the more threatening as Dale Hopson forced Jameson into a fine save with a 25 yard volley.

Town’s team (4-4-2):

Lloyd Allinson; Paul Dixon, Murray Wallace, James Burke, Tom Smith; Dale Hopson, Matt Crooks, Keith Southern (Max Leonard, 66), Duane Holmes; Cristian Lopez (Paul Mullin, 75), Daniel Carr (Joe Wilkinson, 85)

Unused substitutes:

Carr nets brace in Development Squad win

Town made it four wins and one draw from five games in the U21 Professional Development League 2 with a comfortable 2-0 success at Coventry on Tuesday afternoon.

A second half brace from striker Daniel Carr continued his hot streak in front of goal as Town’s Development Squad continued its unbeaten start to the league season.

Town went into its match at Coventry unbeaten and they quickly proved their credentials.

A seventh minute Max Leonard free-kick almost opened the scoring for the Terriers, but the attacker’s dipping effort was pushed away well by Coventry’s stopper Burge.

Town’s dominance in the game continued throughout the first half, but for all their effort, they failed to find a way through. The best chances fell to midfielder Dale Hopson who failed to capitalise on a goalkeeping error and striker Daniel Carr who lifted his leg loosely at Leonard’s cross when he really should have converted.

Carr’s missed chance was right on the stroke of half-time and he was quickly given a chance to redeem himself at the start of the second – and this time he made no mistake. All the hard work was done by Hopson, who collected the ball on the by-line and found the unmarked Carr with a neat cut-back to slot home.

It was very nearly two just a moment later when the exciting Duane Holmes cut inside his marker and fired a low shot against the foot of the post.

Leonard’s performance in the first-half had been slightly hit and miss, but he began the second half far more consistently and capped his bright spell with the assist for Town’s second. The Academy graduate picked up the ball down the right and found Carr who completed his brace with a tap in, after his header had rebounded off the post.

Carr missed an excellent chance to grab his hat trick and the Terriers wasted a couple of good openings later in the game, but the result was never in doubt as Steve Eyre’s side furthered its unbeaten run.

Town’s team (4-4-2):
Ian Bennett; Jake Carroll, Murray Wallace, James Burke, Tommy Smith (c); Dale Hopson, Keith Southern (Ben Holmes, 74), Max Leonard (Will Boyle, 86), Duane Holmes; Daniel Carr, Paul Mullin (Flo Bojaj, 78)

Carr brace earns sixth straight league win

Daniel Carr was back on the score sheet to help Town’s Development Squad earn its sixth straight league victory at home to Derby

The striker netted a first half brace to see off the Rams, who scored a consolation through 17 year-old Mason Bennett.

Town’s opener was slightly against the run of play after the visitors had started brightly; Kwame Thomas fired wide after good play from Michael Jacobs. Carr’s first goal was courtesy of good play from Paul Mullin and Tom Smith with the latter cutting the ball across goal for the former Dulwich Hamlet man to tap home.

Adam Clayton hit a free-kick just wide before Town doubled its advantage on 26 minute. The same two in Smith and Carr combined, with Dale Hopson also adding a bit of quality to allow the young striker the chance to grab his second.

The Terriers’ tempo dropped after the second and allowed Derby – and Michael Jacobs – to grow into the game.

The former Northampton midfielder began to have a big impact on the game in the second half as he saw goal bound efforts blocked by Jake Carroll and Tommy Smith. He also hit wide narrowly as Town struggled to keep Derby at bay.

Carr had Town’s best chance to extend the lead when he blocked Mats Morch’s clearance and hooked wide, but it was Derby who were next to score.

Captain Valentine Gjokaj played a superb ball into the path of Mason Bennett who raced in on goal and smashed a shot past his namesake at the near post.

Duane Holmes had a good chance to make it three with twenty minutes to go, but it was Derby who looked the more likely to score with Callum Ball having a shot superbly blocked by substitute James Burke.

Ball had the best chance of them all to level matters with six minutes to go, but he hit straight at Bennett after being put in the clear by Mason Bennett.

Town held on for the win, though, to extend its lead at the top of the U21 Professional Development League 2 to at least six points.

Town’s team (4-4-2):

Ian Bennett; Jake Carroll, Murray Wallace, Anthony Gerrard (James Burke, 60), Tommy Smith; Duane Holmes (Robbie McIntyre, 87), Adam Clayton, Jordan Sinnott, Dale Hopson; Daniel Carr, Paul Mullin (Jake Charles, 80)

Unused substitutes:

Ed Wilczynski, Ben Holmes

League Two club Fleetwood have signed teenage striker Daniel Carr on a month's loan from Huddersfield.

Fleetwood lost David Ball to a shoulder injury at Northampton on Saturday, having already been without Jamille Matt because of an ankle problem.
Fleetwood striker David Ball is helped off the field at Northampton
\
A prolific 2012-13 season with Isthmian League Division One South side Dulwich Hamlet earned Carr, 19, a move to the Championship side in April.
He has made three appearances for the Terriers, two of them from the bench.
The injuries to Matt and Ball, who is expected to be out for between four and six weeks, left Fleetwood manager Graham Alexander with only Jon Parkin and Sheffield Wednesday forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe as his only fit strikers.
Carr will be available to make his debut for the Cod Army, who are currently fourth in League Two, against Mansfield at Highbury on Saturday.

Huddersfield loan striker eyeing appearance
http://www.fleetwoodtownfc.com/news/article/carr-ready-for-more-action-1234735.aspx

Loan striker Daniel Carr says he hoping for more first team action after getting his first taste against Rotherham United on Tuesday evening.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Huddersfield Town, came on with 14 minutes remaining of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy semi-final clash for his first appearance in Fleetwood colours.

Carr admits he has had to be patient for his chance in the Fleetwood first team, but says he is hoping he has impressed Graham Alexander enough to warrant more action.

Carr said: “It felt good to finally get on. I have been waiting patiently and the gaffer has finally given my chance and I feel like I have taken it.

“I always knew that I would get a chance. You come and learn to play football, whether you start or not, you will get your chance.

“I just wanted to keep my body right; keep going and when I get called upon I will be ready.

“If the gaffer likes how I have played then who knows. Football is a very different game; hopefully I impressed enough and showed what I can do to get more of a chance.”

Fleetwood travel to Rochdale to resume their Sky Bet League 2 campaign this weekend after two successive cup games.

Rochdale, like Fleetwood, currently occupy a place in the play-off positions and although Carr is expecting a tough game, he insists Fleetwood have got enough to come away from Spotland with a positive result.

Carr added: “It will be a tough game at Rochdale. I have heard they pass the ball well, but I think we have got enough to take them on.”

Daniel Carr: Mansfield sign Huddersfield striker on loan

Striker Daniel Carr has joined Mansfield Town on an emergency one-month loan from Huddersfield Town.
The 20-year-old will go straight into the Stags squad for their League Two match at Tranmere on Tuesday.
He has appeared three times for Huddersfield after joining them in 2013 following a short trial at Liverpool.
Carr made five appearances during a loan spell with Fleetwood Town last season and scored in their New Year's Day win over Accrington Stanley.

Confident Carr pleased to bag first goal
http://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/article/confident-carr-pleased-to-bag-first-goal-2040375.aspx
Youngster looks back on first full 90 minutes in Mansfield Town colours.

Striker Daniel Carr was one of many to put in an impressive performance in this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with York City at Bootham Crescent.

The young striker, who shifted from the right of midfield to play up front in the second half, admitted he wasn’t feeling the pressure to get that first elusive goal for the club.

He said: “It wouldn’t have put me down if I didn’t get the goal today, because I know that I would’ve got it eventually, but it’s better to get it now so I can now keep pushing on and getting goal after goal.

“I don’t set myself targets really. If I get one goal in one game I want to get two in the next and I’m just going to keep working hard to do that.”

Being a natural striker, Carr added that having scored his first goal he hopes he can give manager Paul Cox a selection headache for the next few games.

“I’m just here to play games and I understand there are other strikers who are coming back from injury,” continued the youngster. “All I can do is keep putting in good performances and scoring goals.”

Despite the striker only being 20 years of age, and somewhat new on the Sky Bet League Two scene, Carr believes that he can handle the physicality and pace of this level.

He added: “I’ve played in this league before so I understand what is required and the different roles and how the manager wants me to play. All I did and can do is my best for the team and the lads were excellent out there today.”

Our team turned on the heat in the second half, compared to a much more even first half, and the young Huddersfield Town forward believes there were a number of reasons behind the turnaround.

“In the second half, our balls going forward were more precise. We showed more hungerness and we really wanted to get something out the game and I think that showed in the second half.”

Carr Looking To Impress On Loan

New loan signing Daniel Carr was excited to get his spell with the club underway as they prepare to face York City away on Saturday.
The striker signed a loan deal until the end of the season with the Daggers on deadline day, with the 20-year-old pleased to be with the club.

“I’m pleased to be here, I want to get some first team football and it’s great to be here until the end of the season. At Dulwich I was playing week in week out, I am confident that I can come here and get some starting football.

“It’s nice to know that the Manager has seen me play quite a few times when I was at Dulwich. He knows my track record, I’m pleased he knows the type of player I am."

The Daggers travel to Bootham Crescent on Saturday to a team he has already scored twice against.

“I played York pre-season with Huddersfield and scored, I also scored against them earlier this season so I’m hoping to make it a treble against them this Saturday.

“It’s up to me now to get that starting spot, I’ve got to prove myself in training and if the gaffer sees something he likes he will give me a chance."

Carr said he was ready to fight with his new team mates as they look to push up the table and avoid the relegation zone.

“I was at Mansfield on loan previously and they are in the same sort of position as Dagenham. Watching the lads play, they don’t deserve to be in the position they are in, but for whatever reason results haven’t gone their way. I’m looking forward to helping the team out of this position.”

Cambridge United sign former Huddersfield Town striker Danny Carr

Danny Carr has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Cambridge United.

The 21-year-old marksman has spent the last two seasons with Huddersfield after being snapped up by the Terriers for an undisclosed five-figure fee from Dulwich after scoring 25 goals for the Ryman League side in 2012/13.

Carr had started out in Reading's youth academy and initially joined Eastbourne Borough on his release from the Royals before moving to Hamlet.

His goal-scoring feats with Dulwich saw him have trials with Liverpool, Charlton and Leeds before moving to Huddersfield.

Cambridge United boss Richard Money excited by Daniel Carr’s potential

Cambridge United manager Richard Money believes new signing Daniel Carr has the ability to be a huge success as the R Costings Abbey Stadium.

Carr has joined Cambridge from Huddersfield Town, and Money is excited to see how the youngster can develop.

The 21-year-old has previously impressed in non-league football, and he has spent time on loan with Fleetwood Town, Mansfield Town and Dagenham and Redbridge in The Football League. But Money is hoping that giving him a more permanent home will help him fulfill his potential.

“We are delighted to be able to bring Daniel to the club at this exciting time,” Money said to the club’s official site.

“He is a player of enormous, as yet, unfulfilled potential; he is very quick and can play right across the front line.

“Daniel's determination to sign for us when he had a number of other opportunities has been refreshing and underlines the ambition we are showing in our recruitment this summer.

“As well as being committed towards developing players from our own academy, Daniel’s signing also shows our determination to continue to bring young players with his potential to the club."

Carr is Cambridge’s seventh signing of the summer so far, as Money continues to bolster his options for the forthcoming Sky Bet League 2 campaign.

Non-league sensation who flirted with Liverpool out to kickstart his career in Ireland
By Ben Blake (the42.ie)

A QUICK GLANCE at Daniel Carr’s Wikipedia page, and you might be forgiven for deducing that he is someone who likes to move around a lot and doesn’t tend to settle very well.

At the age of 24, Shamrock Rovers have just become the striker’s 12th senior club in six years — although, as the Londoner points out, only half of those were on permanent deals.

“I’ve had a lot of clubs but if you look at it, most of them have been loans,” he told The42 yesterday. “It looks like I’ve had many but it’s actually not that much.”

For a player who was sought after by some of England’s top sides as a teenager, Carr appears to have lost his way somewhat in recent times.

So how did he wind up in the League of Ireland?

Raised in Croydon as part of a close-knit family, Daniel was involved in athletics, swimming and gymnastics as a boy but none of them came close to his passion for football.

He remembers getting to the age when it’s time to start following one club, and being told to rethink the decision by his mother.

“When I was younger, I liked Man United but she said she’d make me leave the house if I didn’t support Arsenal,” he recalls. “She was joking but I didn’t know that at the time.”

His older brother Gary would go on to pursue a career in acting and starred as jazz singer Jack Ross in Downton Abbey before being cast in the role of CC, a ruthless pimp in HBO’s hit series The Deuce.

Carr, back then a tricky winger, joined the centre of excellence at Wycombe Wanderers at the age of 14. But that lasted six months and it was at Reading where he worked under the late Eamonn Dolan.

After two years, however, Carr found himself in the seventh tier of English football with non-league side Dulwich Hamlet, while making ends meet by working on a building site with his uncle.

The manager, Gavin Rose, moved him from out wide into a more central forward role, and something clicked.

“I had a great season there,” Carr, who was involved with Trinidad & Tobago at underage level, explains. “I had played on the wing but at that club transformed me into a striker. That’s when I started scoring loads of goals and Dulwich won the league for the first time in years, so it was good to be a part of that.”

Despite that fact the he was plying his trade outside the Football League, 25 goals in the 18-year-old’s debut season prompted clubs all over Britain to stand up and take notice.

The likes of Chelsea and Liverpool were reported to be interested, and Carr went on trial with Chartlon Athletic but both parties couldn’t agree a fee. He was then offered the chance to impress at the Reds, who were at that time manager by Brendan Rodgers — the man in charge of Reading’s first team during his spell there.

Thrown into a reserve game, he lined out alongside the likes of £50 million man Raheem Sterling, AC Milan schemer Suso and Jonjo Shelvey, now of Newcastle United. Although Liverpool didn’t see enough to pursue a deal further, Championship outfit Huddersfield Town put a two-year deal on the table and it felt like a no-brainer.

Life with the Terriers began with a hint of promise as he was named on the bench several times and made cameos in the league against Wigan and Birmingham City, before Fleetwood Town took him on loan.

But things were to turn sour after a falling out with Huddersfield manager Mark Robins.

“In my first season, I played twice in the league, once in the cup and I was on the bench quite a few times,” he says.

“In my second season, there were a few things said by the manager that I didn’t appreciate. They were personal things that I won’t mention now. That’s the reason I didn’t continue there and they sent me out on loan again. I knew from then on it would be uphill so I had to find a new club.”

By 2015, Carr was signed by Cambridge United but the manager got the sack and, again, loan moves followed — this time to Aldershot Town and Woking. He then returned to the club he has enjoyed most success with a year later, agreeing to a second stint at Dulwich Hamlet.

But they farmed him out to Leatherhead, who were managed by one of English football’s most unmistakable characters in former Wigan Athletic, Hull City and Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard.

“He was the best, I really enjoyed my time there,” Carr says of the Soccer AM presenter. “With Jimmy, people think he’s a joker and that but he is really serious. He knows his football.”

Last year, the opportunity arose to go to Sweden to play in their second tier with Karlstad BK, and he accepted.

“I loved it there,” he says of the Swedish experience. “It’s a different culture and I met some lovely people. The football wasn’t as high a standard but I learned from the manager.”

Rovers boss Stephen Bradley had recently been in the market for a centre forward when a former team-mate got in touch to flag Carr’s availability, and he travelled with the squad on their pre-season trip to Portugal. Bradley has said since that he saw enough on his first day training to convince him to take a punt, and the player is keen to repay that faith shown while attempting to get his own career back on track.

Carr’s first experience of the League of Ireland was as a second-half substitute in last Friday’s Dubin derby defeat to Bohemians at Dalymount, and he will be hoping to play some part at home to Dundalk this evening.

“I’m a bit of an all-rounder,” he replies, when asked what he can bring to the team. “The main thing as a striker is that I need to get goals. If I’m not scoring then I’m not really doing my job.

“The minimum is to work hard and every one of us will be doing that.”

Bradley added: “I think he showed a little glimpse last week when he came on against Bohs. He’s very hard to play against as his feet are really good. He’s different to a lot of players in this country in terms of his feet. He’s really tricky around the box.

“It’s about feeding him at the right time. There’s no doubting what he has and what he will bring to us.”

Hoops captain Ronan Finn faces a late fitness test for the game after picking up a knock a week ago, while Trevor Clarke is suspended once again. They are also hoping international clearance goes through for latest arrival Sean Kavanagh.

“He’s a player of real high quality and I think we’ll see that,” Bradley says of the former Fulham full-back. “You only have to watch him in training and you see the quality that he has.

Goalkeeper Kevin Horgan was named in the starting line-up against Bohs ahead of last season’s number one Tomer Chencinski, but his mistake for the home side’s third goal has been roundly-criticised.

“They’re both competing,” Bradley says on his two stoppers. “I’ve said that no one is guaranteed a jersey here, I don’t care if they’re 33 or 23. I’ve said from day one that if someone is training harder or better than the other person then he will play and that was the case last week.

“I thought Kevin did very well. The third goal, he should have stayed on his line and caught it. The other two, Pico [Roberto Lopes] loses his man from a corner and the other one is a flick on to Paddy Kavanagh and our defence is all over the place.

“Kevin can’t affect either of them. If we don’t have that ten-minute meltdown, we walk away with a win and we’re not talking about Kevin. But we shot ourselves in the foot.”

For Dundalk, who come into the game on the back of a frustrating 0-0 draw with Bray Wanderers on the opening night, experienced defender Brian Gartland has returned to the squad along with Lithuanian midfielder Karolis Chvedukas, and new signing Marco Tagbajumi is also available.

Captain Stephen O’Donnell (calf), Sean Hoare (hamstring) and John Mountney (knee) are all out, however.

Ran across this player's Twitter today
https://twitter.com/Carr17Dan

I've watched a fair bit of him both in the League of Ireland and in the Europa League recently.  He's not going to solve T&T's goalscoring woes on his own, definitely not an out-and-out goalscorer.  However, he seems well suited to the system T&T have been playing recently, playing alone up top and bringing his teammates in to play.  Seeing as T&T haven't had a target man or focal point to their attack I guess since Kenwyne retired, he'd probably be worth a look.  10 goals and 5 assists in the league last season, he's tracking just a little bit behind that this year.

Carr ready to give all for Trinidad and Tobago…Soca Warriors begin preparations in St. Lucia
TTFA Media

This country’s Senior Men’s Team players were put through their paces under sunny conditions at the St Lucia Football Association training centre on Tuesday morning as head coach Dennis Lawrence commenced a short training camp ahead of Friday’s CONCACAF Nations League qualifier against Martinique in Fort-de-France.

Turning out in the T&T training kit for the first time were newly called up trio forwards Daniel Carr and Ryan Telfer as well as former national under 17 midfielder Andre Fortune. Winger Levi Garcia, Deportivo Saprissa defender Aubrey David, Belgium-based defender Sheldon Bateau and Kevin Molino all joined the residential camp in St Lucia on Tuesday as Lawrence looked to intensify his preparation for the qualifier.

With some new faces involved this time around, experienced US-based midfielder Kevan George said it is extremely important that the players make the most of the sessions ahead of matchday.

“It’s really the first time we are back together since the disappointment of the Gold Cup campaign and so for a lot of us, it’s good to be back as group but understanding that this is a critical period for us to brush things off and bring some respectable levels back to our team,” George told TTFA Media on Tuesday.

“Coach has introduced some new faces and it’s good for the squad. We have to gel as quickly as possible and settle into the preparations. We all know Martinique is a decent team and will be very difficult to overturn at home but we have to believe in our ability and approach and take the game to them,” George added.

Carr meantime was buzzing after his first session under Lawrence.

“I’m very proud about this. From a young age I have always had dreams and ambitions of playing for Trinidad and Tobago. I wouldn’t say I’ve been eying the call up but I always thought if you do well in club football then they will see me. Since I became a professional I’ve always thought that I need to step up and hopefully one day I’ll get the call up which I have now” Carr said.

The former Aldershot Town forward is fully aware that he has to show his worth early for the red, white and black.

“It’s pretty black and white. If I play well I get called up again, if not then I don’t . I guess it’s important for me to settle in very quickly otherwise I wouldn’t be here many more times. It’s also important for me to do well in my club football. It all joins up together. It’s very important that I just put my head down and work. I’m not here for a holiday, I’m here to kick on and play and represent Trinidad and Tobago,” Carr added.

Looking ahead to Friday’s encounter, he said, “I’m just taking it all in really. I don’t know exactly what to expect from Martinique. I’m just preparing like I would do for any other game. I obviously just want to do my best for the team and that’s all that really matters,” he said.

Seems comfortable in his skin. That should assist him settling  in with the NT. Counts for something that Limassol picked him up after playing against him.

I've listened to this interview and one he did for a podcast in Ireland and he comes across as grounded. Apparently he does back flips when he scores. If he scores, Dennis should be the one doing back flips. :)

Shelbourne FC signs striker Dan Carr
shelbournefc.ie

Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the signing of striker Dan Carr ahead of the 2022 season.

The 27-year-old joins Shelbourne having had a previously successful two-year period at Shamrock Rovers in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division in 2018 and 2019.

Alongside six international caps for Trinidad and Tobago, Carr has played for Cambridge United, Apollon Limassol FC, Huddersfield Town and Dulwich Hamlet.

The Reds striker scored 17 times in his two years in Tallaght and has previously worked with current Shels management and Luke Byrne.

Carr had played for Dulwich in 2016 before scoring 8 goals in 14 appearances for Letterhead under Jimmy Bullard before moving to Karlstad BK in Sweden.

Shelbourne FC Men’s First Team Head Coach Damien Duff said: “I am delighted that Dan has chosen us over a host of other clubs. He knows the division which is important, can create out of nothing and has an absolute edge to his game that I love. Dan has a massive hunger and desire for this season which is the reason he has settled so quickly”

Speaking on his announcement, Dan told shelbournefc.ie: “I’m here to help Shels win as many games as possible. There’s great energy in the squad and I can see there’s no fear there. I’m looking forward to playing in Tolka Park and working with Damien, Joey, David McCaillister and the whole squad and staff. I can’t wait to get going.”
