LOUISVILLE CITY FC vs ORLANDO CITY FC

GREG RANJITSINGH (LOUISVILLE CITY FC)

Record Crowd Sees Louisville City Take Down Orlando City 3-1

Louisville, KY (August 25, 2015) — An historic night at Louisville Slugger Field was made even more special with the record crowd of 9,434 fans saw the home side come away with a 3-1 victory of Major League Soccer’s Orlando City SC.

Lou City threatened early with some great chances to draw first blood. Captain Matthew Fondy challenged the Orlando backline all night and got his first real chance coming in the in the 34th minute. Fondy would find the ball and get off a shot to the left of the keeper, only to be corralled then saved by Orlando’s Earl Edwards.

Just a minute later, Fondy would weave through three defenders to get off a shot on a tough angle. The ball rifled past Edwards, finding the back of the net and sent the crowd into a frenzy.

That would be all the scoring the first half would see, but the second half would tell a different story. Many new faces entered the field for the final 45 minutes, including Greg Ranjitsingh who made his Slugger Field debut.

Orlando would have a great chance to level things in the 47th minute brushing by multiple Lou City defenders only to find his shot go wide of the post and out for a goal kick.

Despite the visitors pushing for an equalizer, Juan Guzman would double the Louisville lead in the 50th minute. The midfielder would pressure a bad handle by Orlando’s backline, get a touch on the ball, and fire a shot  for Lou City’s second goal on the night.

Orlando would come right back in the 66th minute with a goal of their own by Danny Mwanga, who was able to cross through two defenders and get off a solid shot beating Ranjitsingh to the left, bringing the score to 2-1.

Orlando would come close to equalizing in the 71st minute when a strong cross by the Lions would be tipped out by Ranjitsingh only to have another shot come right back into the keeper’s hands then cleared away to end the threat.

Louisville’s final goal of the night would come from Charlie Adams in the 78th minute. Louisville benefited from a foul and a quick restart. Charlie Adams attempted to maneuver around a defender, only to see Edwards meet him near the six-yard-box. The two nearly collided, forcing Edwards to spill the ball  and allowing Adams to deliver the finishing blow.

As the final whistle blew, Louisville City would defeat the Orlando 3-1.

Fans could tell this would be a special night as the crowd began to fill the stands, Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher, former USL President Tim Holt, Brek Shea, and dozens of other MLS talents made it a star-studded affair.

After an incredible showing by the team in their 3-1 victory over Orlando, this was both a record setting attendance night and monumental victory for the club. Louisville City will be back in USL play this Saturday night at home versus the Pittsburgh Riverhounds as the race for playoff positioning is in full swing, be sure you get your tickets at www.louisvillecityfc.com/tickets.

Greg Ranjitsingh signs with Louisville City FC.
Lousivillecityfc.com

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (March 26th, 2015) — Louisville City FC, the new professional soccer team that will kick off its inaugural season campaign on March 28th at Louisville Slugger Field, announced three more acquisitions to the club. Goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh, English forward, Cameron Lancaster and Serbian forward Ilija Ilic.

Lancaster started his career in the Tottenham Hotspur Academy and made his debut for the English Premier League team under former Spurs head coach, Harry Redknapp. In 2014 the 6-foot striker went on-loan to Stevenage where he connected on a wonder goal from 40-yards out. Lancaster went on to St. Albans City for another loan stint. He made for appearances and scored twice for the Saints.

While on trial with Louisville City FC, the 22-year-old wasted no time displaying his talents. In the club’s first friendly he broke a 2-2 draw in the 89th minute with a superb strike to give his team the 3-2 win over Indiana University.

“We invited Cameron to come on trial with us last month,” head coach James O’Connor said. “It was obvious within the first few days of training that he had great potential. He has the ability to score a lot of goals for us this season.”

Ilic was a former teammate of Louisville City midfielder Niall McCabe at Young Harris College. Ilic left Young Harris holding the school record for most points in a season. In 2014 he was voted the NCAA Division 2 Player of the Year, finishing second in all of NCAA Division II in goals scored with 27.

The 6-foot-2 Belgrade, Serbia native had also been on trial with the club and has been able to show how his powerful right boot can help Louisville City. The 23-year-old scored a goal and was responsible for another in LCFC’s 5-0 win over Lindsey-Wilson.

“Ilija is another player that we have been fortunate to sign,” O’Connor said. “He has a strong right foot that is going to lead to many goals for us. He was constantly filling the stat sheet at Young Harris, and we now that we have seen what he can do first hand, we are thrilled to have him on board.”

Ranjitsingh is a 22-year-old from Pickering, Ontario. In his four years as the starting goalkeeper at Mercer University, Ranjitsingh led the conference in many statistical categories including save percentage and average goals allowed. He finished his collegiate career as one of the top keepers in the country. In one preseason game with Louisville, Ranjitsingh registered a clean sheet in a 5-0 win over Lindsey-Wilson.

“We invited Greg to come on-loan to us a few weeks ago,” O’Connor said. “During his time with us he proved that he has the skills to be a quality goalkeeper. Obviously we are excited to have gotten Greg here and thrilled to have him here in Louisville.”

Lancaster, Ilic, Ranjitsingh and the rest of the Louisville City FC squad continue their preparation for the club’s inaugural season. Season tickets are still available and can be purchased by visiting LouisvilleCityFC.com or by calling 502-384-8799. Ticket packages include 15 matches – 14 USL PRO regular season home games and one additional fixture (friendlies, Open Cup matches, etc.).

The full schedule is available online at LousivilleCityFC.com/schedule.

Louisville City FC is a professional soccer team founded in 2014 and will begin its first season in USL in March, 2015. The United Soccer League was founded in 2010 and has expanded to 24 teams for the 2015 season. Louisville City FC will play all home matches at Louisville Slugger Field in downtown Louisville.

Ranjitsingh named Crons Achiever Award Winner
MACON, Ga. – Mercer sophomore goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh was named the Crons "Achiever Award" winner for the month of September on Wednesday afternoon.

The monthly award sponsored by the Atlantic Sun Conference is presented to an athlete recognized by a fan vote for the most notable achievement from the month prior.

Ranjitsingh secured exactly 50 percent of the fan vote to claim the award over five other student-athletes representing fellow A-Sun Conference institutions. Ranjitsingh is now the second-straight Mercer student-athlete to win the award, as women's soccer sophomore Lauren Gassie also claimed the honor for her efforts in the month of August.

Ranjitsingh had a memorable month in goal for the Bears, leading a Mercer defensive unit that allowed just five goals in the entire month of September. Ranjitsingh recorded four shutouts in September and was named the A-Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week on two separate occasions. With those four shutouts, the Pickering, Ontario native is now up to 13 clean sheets in his career, moving him into seventh place for the most shutouts in A-Sun Conference history. As of October 17, Ranjitsingh leads all A-Sun Conference goalkeepers in every major statistic, including wins (8), goals against average (0.83), save percentage (.851) and shutouts (6).

The Crons "Achiever Award" is the second major honor Ranjitsingh has received in as many weeks, after being one of just 11 players in the country named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week on October 8.

Ranjitsingh and the rest of the Bears resume A-Sun Conference play on October 18 when they travel to Jacksonville to take on North Florida. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.

What's up with all yuh hating de foreigners?????   :frustrated:
Most of the foreigners I know have been signed by big clubs already....The TTFF can have a good team and make it to a World Cup someday if they do things differently and open up there eyes.
It's really sad how these foreigners come show up themselves and that should be a lesson for the locals to wok harder and prove themselves.  I'm speaking for myself when I say dis....I've seen a few games and training sessions and they foreigners wok way harder and have more passion for the game because all the locals do is yap on de field.  Talk Nuh!!!

Ranjitsingh - Awarded All-Freshman Atlantic Sun Team

Five Bears Earn A-Sun Postseason Awards

MACON, Ga. – Five members of the Mercer men’s soccer team received Atlantic Sun postseason honors as announced on Monday morning by the league office after voting conducted by the nine conference head coaches.

Junior Josh Shutter was voted onto the first team, classmate Joey Heavner landed a spot on the second team and freshmen Ashani Samuels, Carl-Oscar Andersson and Greg Ranjitsingh were all named to the All-Freshman squad.

Mercer's five overall selections were tied for the second-most in the conference, trailing only FGCU who had seven players receive All-Conference recognition. Another sign of the program’s growth under head coach Brad Ruzzo, the Bears five All-Freshman selections over the past two seasons are the most of any team in the A-Sun Conference.

Stetson junior midfielder Jonathan Mendoza won the A-Sun Player of the Year while classmate Luis Ocejo won the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year. FGCU forward Xavier Silva and head coach Bob Butehorn won the A-Sun Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.

For Shutter, the selection marks his second A-Sun postseason award after earning a spot on the All-Conference second team last season. A 2011 Preseason All-Atlantic Sun Team selection, the Sinking Spring, Pa. native has appeared and started in 16 games for the Bears this season, setting career-highs in points (9) and goals (3). The 6-2 center back starred in Mercer’s 2-0 over Appalachian State on September 4, scoring the game-winning goal on a penalty kick and assisting on the second goal.

For Heavner, the All-Conference second team honor is his second A-Sun postseason award in as many days, as he was also named to the inaugural Men’s Soccer Academic All-Conference team. The Landisville, Pa. native is tied for second on the squad with nine points on one goal and seven assists. Heavner currently ranks tied for first in the A-Sun and 22nd in the nation with seven assists and scored his lone goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Belmont on October 30.

Samuels, Andersson and Ranjitsingh were all selected to the All-Freshman team, giving the Orange and Black multiple selections on the All-Rookie team in back-to-back seasons.

Samuels has played in 15 games, including 13 starts, and has four points on two goals this season. Andersson has appeared and started in all 18 games this season for Mercer and tallied seven points on one goal and five assists. Ranjitsingh has played every minute in goal this season for the Bears and finished tied for first in the A-Sun with seven shutouts and second in the league with a 1.07 goals against average.

Mercer returns to the field on Wednesday evening when it takes on Lipscomb in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Championship. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Summers-Taylor Stadium on the campus of East Tennessee State University.

Bears Settle for 0-0 Draw against USC Upstate

MACON, Ga. –After 110 minutes of all-out effort, the Mercer men's soccer team just couldn't find the back of the net in an eventual 0-0 draw with USC Upstate on a bitterly cold Wednesday evening at Bear Field.

Mercer (6-6-2, 1-3-1 A-Sun) put up a season-high 23 shots in the contest and out-cornered USC Upstate (5-7-2, 2-3-2 A-Sun) 9-8, but failed to light up the scoreboard in a game for just the third time this season.

Each squad had several quality scoring chances throughout in a game that was high tempo on the offensive side of the ball from the first whistle.

The Bears best chance came in the first half when junior Joey Heavner whipped in a corner kick that freshman Carl-Oscar Andersson headed on net. The attempt looked to be sailing in just inside the near post, but a USC Upstate defender headed the ball of the line to keep the game scoreless.

The Spartans top scoring opportunity came late in the second half. Senior Timo Forester dribbled into some space and ripped a shot from about 25 yards out that bounded off the far post and back onto the field of play.

Mercer goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh made a season-high six saves to record his sixth shutout of the season, while USC Upstate's Jason McCabe made seven saves to preserve the 0-0 final score.

Mercer is back in action this Saturday when it hosts ETSU in its final Atlantic Sun Conference home match of the 2011 season. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field and will double as Senior Night for defenders Ryan Young and Phil Thoren.

Mercer Takes Care of Business in 2-0 Win over Nebraska Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The Mercer men's soccer team made sure it enters Atlantic Sun Conference play on a high note after a dominating 2-0 road victory over Nebraska Omaha on Friday evening in front of 1,488 fans at Werner Park.

Mercer (4-3-1) out-shot Nebraska Omaha (1-5-0) 14-11, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal, in a game that got testy at times and featured 35 combined fouls.

In the first-ever meeting between the two clubs and the Bears first visit to Nebraska since 2005, it didn't take long for the visitors to make their mark in the Cornhusker State. Junior Josh Shutter put a long throw right into the middle of the box that freshman Ashani Samuels jumped up and headed into the back of the net to give Mercer a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game.

That would be all the scoring for both sides in a back-and-forth first half that ended with the Orange and Black holding the 1-0 advantage.

Sophomore Ehjayson Henry broke a lull in the action in the second stanza when he orchestrated a run in the box and tried to slide in a shot low past UNO goalkeeper Josh Christensen, but the attempt was cleared off the line by a Nebraska Omaha defender to keep the score 1-0.

The Orange and Black kept pressing on, however, and put the game out of reach in the 81st minute. Junior Joey Heavner curled a ball in behind the Mavericks defense that classmate Will Betts flicked over Christensen's head to give Mercer a 2-0 lead.

That would be all the scoring in the contest, as Mercer goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh made three saves to record his third career and second-straight shutout.

Mercer returns to Macon for the beginning of A-Sun Conference play next weekend, starting with a match-up against North Florida on September 29. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's soccer team used some incredible individual offensive efforts and suffocating team defending to come away with an impressive 2-0 win over in-state rival Georgia Southern on Sunday evening at Bear Field.

Freshman Greg Ranjitsingh finished with four saves on the evening to record his second shutout of the season. The clean sheet for Mercer was especially impressive considering Georgia Southern entered Sunday's game with the seventh ranked scoring offense in the country, averaging 2.83 goals per game.
