Iva was and still is a CB by trade.  He has been shaky many times for us @CB so tbh I was happy he held down the RB spot.  He only really gained a foothold on that spot when Dave was switched from right to left and used to replace Cole.  Remember Cole left at the conclusion of the 13-14 season, So Iva hasn't been holding that position for even 2 years yet regularly and certainly not since he joined at all so check your facts bredrin.

Come better than that man lol. 2009/10 season - when we won the Premier League - Ivanovic was named in the Premier League team of the season as a right back (Terry and Carvalho were our starting CBs that year). There have been times when he was deployed as a CB but he has been our starting RB more often than not in most seasons since then. The only player who has ever competed with him for that spot was Bosingwa and that battle didnt last long.

Mourinho acknowledged how good Azpilicueta was but admitted that he could not bench Ivanovic (Mourinho actually said this in a match program, if you want I could go look for it lol)....a few games later Azpilicueta came in for Cole and became the starting LB.

I agree with you that he is shaky as a CB but we will have to disagree on who is our best RB because to me he is still one of if not the best in the league  :beermug:

What was the point of buying Filipe Luis last year and then having to purchase Baba Rahman this year? Players finding it hard to say no to Chel$ea, but will confront hard, cold reality after chasing the hard, cold ca$h. Mourinho will stand in a firing line for Azpilicueta and since playing time is key for any player who would ordinarily be a likely NT starter, going to Chelsea to sit on the bench is a non-starter of an idea. Literally.

The reality here is that Ivanovic performed so well last term @ RB even though his true position is CB, that Jose found it difficult to sit him.  Why not sit Dave you ask?  Well Dave was rock solid in defense.  It was very extremely rare to see a successful cross come in from opponents right flank because Dave was very adept at dispossessing his mark and launching counters.  His only weakness was his lack of ability with his left which meant limited crosses from our left side.  So it isn't so much what you are making it out to be at all.  In fact I imagine had Luis chosen to stay he probably would have been inserted already and Dave returned to the right.  Iva was looking woeful since preseason but by then Luis had already made up his mind and the club obliged even if that is not what is being spoken in the press.  JM making Iva a VC doesn't help either because it has meant that given such trust he had to give him a chance to get right.  If Baba was ready to start last game I imagine he would have as the combo of preseason and the initial 3 games were enough for JM to spot the glaring weakness that Iva has represented this term.  It also doesn't help that Matic has under-performed as well.  I think Baba has come at the right time and has an opportunity to take that spot and claim it as his own.  Even Kennedy looked like a breath of Fresh air was injected when he came on.  The biggest mistake JM made on that day was letting the youngster replace Dave instead of sending Iva to the bench and Dave to the RB position.

Rahman was purchased as a squad player. In future years he might get more of a sweat. Felipe Luis wasnt happy with it and left, but Rahman must have known that was the role that was on offer before he arrived. He got here before our shaky start to the season and knew he was arriving at a club with the best defence in the Prem and would be competing for a spot with the best left back in the Prem.

Ivanovic has been our regular RB years ago, more or less since he joined Chelsea. That is his best position for us and a few lukewarm games to start the season does not make him a bad player. He has been great over the last 4 or 5 seasons, probaly our best player. He now has Pedro playing in front of him, who is not at strong defensively as Wilian and will take time to adapt. Benching him for a kid is not the answer, Ivanovic will come good.

She been skating on Thin ice since that Arsenal game when Oscar sustained a concussion and was allowed to return, only to be taken off at the half and sent to the hospital in an ambulance.  When you look at that and this, one might be tempted to say that with Oscar she was probably attempting to game manage, but I liken the two to a player who passes when he should shoot and shoots when he should pass.  In either situation the result is a botched play.  Jose have plenty haters and detractors and they are having a field day with this.  However the only reason this generates so much attention is because 1. Jose mentioned it, 2. Eva is a woman, and 3. she is attractive.  I doubt most people can name 2 other physios especially of teams they don't support, yet everyone knows Eva and by name.  Naturally many will claim she was only doing her job, yet I personally do not think what Jose said about understanding the game is unreasonable. What if Hazard was seriously injured which is the next fantasy statement many have made, the counter is he would have made the universal football signal that players make after sustaining a serious injury.  He eh no rookie that drop from space.

Jose is being an idiot and noone will support him on this.  It would be terrible PR for the club if he is allowed to demote her. She is not there to help the team win the game she is there to look after the welfare of the players. She suceeded at her job, Jose failed at his. He should have reserved his anger for Courtois, cuz Eva certainly didnt cause us to drop points.

And when Oscar got injured, Jose claimed that he deferred to his medical team on all medical decisions. He needs to continue doing that.

Trinidad and Tobago 0-0 Sweden

Trinidad and Tobago held on for a courageous draw despite playing the whole of the second half with 10 men.

Soca Warriors defender Avery John picked up the first red card of the World Cup after two reckless tackles.

Cornell Glen had Trinidad and Tobago's best chance with a thumping drive that hit the bar, but they were pinned back for much of the game.

Marcus Allback and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both should have done better with good chances but the islanders held on.

The result means that England will progress to the next round if they beat Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday.

While Sweden will be looking to take three points from Paraguay on the same day.

Trinidad and Tobago were forced to make a change before the kick-off as goalkeeper Kelvin Jack suffered a last-minute injury on the way back to the dressing room after the warm-up session.

West Ham's Shaka Hislop was drafted in to replace him.

And he was almost called in to action inside five minutes when Henrik Larsson's fierce free-kick from the edge of the penalty area narrowly fizzed past the post.

The Swedes, who have yet to win since qualifying for the World Cup last October, controlled the first half and looked more assured in possession, making the Soca Warriors chase the game.

Trinidad and Tobago's most likely source of a goal in the first half looked to be from long-range as Sweden pinned the opposition in their own half.

And it was Carlos Edwards' drive from distance that was the best of the Trinidad and Tobago chances.

But Sweden looked the more likely to find the net and Larsson had a header drift inches over after a Freddie Ljungberg cross and Christian Wilhelmsson drove a stinging shot straight at Hislop.

Anders Svensson and Ibrahimovic both had half-chances to make the breakthrough, but the half-time whistle was met with cheers by the Trinidad and Tobago supporters who were relieved not to have conceded.

Their cheers turned to jeers soon after the break as John picked up the his red card when he clattered into Wilhelmsson.

Substitute Glen almost gave Trinidad and Tobago a shock lead when Cornell Glen thumped a drive off the bar while at the other end Hislop superbly kept out an Ibrahimovic volley.

Sweden became increasingly frustrated and the Trinidad and Tobago players stood firm to repel the Swedes' constant attacks.

Marcus Allback should have given Sweden the lead 10 minuted before time but Hislop again pulled off a fine save to keep the score level.

But the Caribbean side picked up an historic point on their World Cup debut.

I once saw T&T play the first half of an official game against Honduras at the Queens Park Oval with blue tops. Can't remember what happen to there tops but they had to borrow Queens Park tops.

Both teams started the game in white. The ref made T&T change tops.

That was my first ever football game, aged 6. Was confused as hell  :D

Been a Chelsea regular for several years now so I've been fortunate enough to see most big name players of the last decade or so. The ones who continually impressed me over the years (in no particular order) are:

Thierry Henry
Christiano Ronaldo
Messi
Xavi
Yaya Toure
Robben
Drogba
Rooney
Aguero
Javier Zanetti
Zlatan
Ashley Cole

Goalkeepers would be Courtois, Neuer and Buffon.

And for the record, Latas would easily make my list  :beermug:

Schürrle is a player... and only 23 at that.

Took shots into the upper tier on at least 3 occasions last night. Never seen one man throw away so much in a single game ever.

We don't have one football team because we aren't one country. Not really much more to it than that.

And Great Britain is the opposite - 1 country but 4 football teams.

UEFA have declared the Courtois clause null and void but Atletico know that if they play him without paying they have no chance of getting him back on loan next season. So they still have a tough decision to make.

yeah..... I doh know, d russian shoulda probably hold on to Rafa.....Jose not inspiring mih......it goh be pressure at arsenal if dey can't get dey shit together.

Rafa, Jose, whoever. We not winning a title until we have a striker. Time to draw a line under this Torres project.

I think City will win the title this season by at least 8 points.

DHW I heard that story.  As to Christians being involved, I'm not really sure.  But brother it's not the same because these actions seem to be supported as part of the religion.  You cut off a man head in public for a cross and its like Juvert morning.   What is religion if it doesn't value life in the protection of women and children?    The reason I don't do and say half the thing I feel or deal out judgement to people is that Christ died for everyone.   The breathe of life is precious and valuable.  Amen the God I serve don't think like that.  We would all be headless.

Rookie officiating error... pub league level actually, by Taylor.

It was the linesman's fault, not the ref's. He consulted his linesman who told him that the keeper had dropped the ball to his feet (as opposed to bouncing it). The linesman clearly didnt see either

Brazil played well yesterday. But would they have beaten Spain, had Spain not had to play 120 minutes against another world class side less than 3 days before in 30 degree weather? It clearly prevented the Spaniards from playing their usual pressing game and from overrunning the Brazilians as they have done with everyone else in recent years.

Personally, I think the Brazil hype has gone overboard. The result had just as much to do with Spain's poor performance as it did with Brazil's good performance.

(PS - I dont support any national team other than TnT, so I am not a disgruntled Spain fan lol)
