We are not looking likely to score. J Jones is the only player who looks capable of forcing anything to happen and CR are not allowing him space.

Who's that #5?

Basic defending. Just ball watching like he sweating in de savannah  :pissedoff:
That's the Cyrus they cussin. To be fair the CB (#12) left the centre to go to the ball and the left side defenders got cut open easily to allow the attacker freedom behind the defense.

That last Costa Rica attack didn't look like offside.

Had a bad dream last night. We were down 4nil in the 38th min. I woke up sweating. I hope that dream was just nerves on my part :praying:
31st minute and it is 0-0, so it would have to fall apart spectacularly for your dream to come to reality.

We're actually doing better than holding our own. Had some decent attacking spells and have been fairly comfortable in defense.

Who is the men's U21 coach? I have a cousin in the Ryman League U18 in London who wants to play for T&T. They made contact about 2 years back with Anton Corneal who expressed an interest in having him. Obviously nothing came out of it since then and they are asking me to help them follow up. His eligibility is a bit of a long shot (grandmother was Trini, but his mother was born in England), but he's interested so why not follow up?

Are we under performing or is it that our athletes just aren't up to the level? I've often felt that we have an inflated opinion of our country's ability in sport. On the one hand this is probably the largest CAC Games team I've seen (larger even than the Jamaicans). On the other hand shouldn't we see better performances? I think there has been improvement in terms of athlete preparation and performance but we are still some way off of consistent elite level showings in these big games.

International opportunities are so few and far between one can't fault that exposure plan. They still have classification matches to play.

At halftime it is still 0-0 in the women's hockey match. They need to win by 4 goals to top their group. A draw will be enough to move on to the semifinals and a loss knocks them out of medal contention.

What is the final score?

It remained 0-0 so the women will play Cuba tomorrow in the semi-final. The men won 11-0 and will play hosts Mexico in a semi-final on Saturday.

It look like DR playing some serious hockey now. We used to to great at netball and hockey. Netball is struggling to remain relevant among our ladies. Hockey maybe in the same boat also.

DR has invested in the game in 2 main ways: 1) hired an Argentine coach and 2) gave citizenship to a few Argentines (and I think Cubans as well) giving themselves an immediate boost. The men's hockey team is actually pretty good at the moment, while the women have some young promising players. It's not a big decline as yet.

Bovell with our first (and so far only) gold medal of the Games in the 50M freestyle.

Five bronze medals now. Bovell won a bronze in the 50M Backstroke. Two Venezuelans finished ahead of him.

Tomorrow's events: women's 50M freestyle, hockey (vs. Guyana) and basketball (vs. Dominican Republic). Then men's team archery (vs. Guatemala), 50M freestyle, hockey (vs. Guatemala) and 100M backstroke.

Those are our 3 medals in the Games so far.

Mexico and Colombia also drew 1-1 in the group.

That was really an offside for Costa Rica??  It was real close.....couldn't really see well even on the replay.....

Yeah, the angle on the replay wasn't the best, but I wasn't sure that she was offside either.

On to penalty kicks. This is a lottery, so probably our best chance to win at this point. Belgrave missing for the final match (1st-2nd or 3rd-4th) will be big.

link or updates please..ah late

1-1 in the 110th minute of the game.

14
#16 (Rice?) is out of gas. She still has 15 minutes to try and find something in the tank to continue to fight. What these girls have lacked technically, and even tactically, they have more than made up for in tenacity. They are not giving up at all.

15
LOL... on the topic of fatigue, Tony DiCicco say TnT take de first half off so we should be fine  :rotfl:
LOL he right

I real laugh too.  ;D

16
I real bad talk Hutchinson since she came on to the field and she scores. So obviously King is a better free kick specialists than Hutchinson. All to play for again.

17
Given Cordner's contribution with her head, the crosses and set plays have been disappointing. Given the difference in technical and tactical ability, you figure our girls should be doing more when they get them. Still, this has been our most promising period of the match.

18
Still too much kicking the ball away to no one in particular, especially under little pressure. A little too responsive on defense, but for all of that we're still in it. Attin-Johnson is working her socks off, but needs someone else to step up and provide some additional quality. CR is organised and clearly technically a better unit, but I don't think that they're beyond our ability to score.

19
I agree with Mr. Davis. What was so urgent about this dispute that it couldn't have been handled after the tour?

20
If the BCCI really wanted to make a statement they would extend the sanction to West Indian players getting IPL contracts. On the one hand I understand that the players had a grievance and there wasn't time to really sort it out before the tour started, but it is unconscionable that they felt it urgent enough to pull out of the tour. That is unacceptable. We can point fingers at the WICB for bad management and not be wrong in that assessment, but the players must take the majority of the responsibility for this. How come the players from the other countries don't resolve their issues like this?

This is our best result against the US. It's a loss, but there were a lot of encouraging aspects of the game. I agree with Bakes, they did settle down a bit, but still were too weak in the midfield. We got some pretty decent looks and we got it from being patient and organised. How often do you see Caribbean teams content to do the best they can for that long, especially after conceding? The next trick now is to see if they can bring that discipline, hard work and determination into the next game. Well done, ladies.  :applause:

Imagine we getting chances against the USA with the score at 1-0. Shows the value of grit and determination. It's not only about the skill, which of course is important.

Defenders walking back while the team under pressure. Fatigue starting to set in. They needed more possession so it wouldn't come to this. Hopefully they continue to learn and develop. It's unfortunate that most of that must happen on the job.

0-0 at halftime. I have no complaints. If the midfield doesn't protect the back line a little better though things can get rough as the legs get tired. Is Arin King #5? If so she's been my player of the game (for T&T). Need a little more hold up play from the skipper. That #16 has some pace (more than the US right wing back) and if she can remain composed long enough might be able to hurt the US. I think our women's football has come a long way in a relatively short period. Still hoping for the second half.

We look woefully overmatched.  13 minutes and already we holding on for dear life.  We conceding way too many set pieces and every clearance is just "anywhere will do"... usually right back to an attacking player.  No composure whatsoever.

Agreed. We can't seem to 3 passes together, we're slower to balls that are 60-40 in our favour and really just surviving on grit. I'm pleased to see them as determined as this, but there needs to be a little more to their game still. Hoping for the miracle all the same.  ;D

RIP Warrior Akeem.

Congrats warriors, coaching staff and management. Well done!

Now...all this love for Birchy is well deserved but wha bout Carlos who, no disrespect to Birchy, has done yeoman service for T&T and will go down as one of our best EVER footballers. No love for Carlos?  Isnt it his final appearance for T&T as well?

Carlos has not retired from international football. His appearances for T&T will be dependent on the coach selecting him.

Took in the game earlier. Was disappointed at the turn out. Against New Zealand we reached as the game started and had to sit down in line with a goal post. Today I reached as the teams were walking out and got a seat about 6 rows down and just about midway between the Jamaica goal (T&T goal for the second half) and the half line. Some friends arrived after kick off and we didn't have to hold the seats they got right by us.

I didn't know quite a few of the T&T players. I'm realising from this thread that Guerra was #10. Who was #19? Was that Mitchell? Except for Cyrus I didn't know any of the back 4 just by looking at them. Overall I felt that the game lacked the intensity that you'd expect from a T&T vs. Jamaica match. Especially the Jamaicans I felt didn't look the part and one would have thought they'd come into the match with fire in their belly considering the 0-1 loss at home. We settled fairly quickly and had good possession, using that as a foundation for dominating the game that was refreshing to see.

A nice build up with the #8 producing some good skill to get to the byline and cross found Kenwyne wanting. You'd expect an EPL striker to bury that comfortably. Hell, you'd expect players of less quality to have done better. We earned a lot of corners in the first half, but none looked likely to bring us a goal. You'd figure with Kenwyne on the team that we'd look a bit more threatening.

Coming out of the game though I saw the following:

    • the football public does not like Kenwyne Jones. For every mistake he made, fair or not, they let him have it. Not everything they called a mistake I agreed with. It was almost as if he had to come out on top despite the pressure from defenders EVERY SINGLE TIME. When he made good plays though we either said nothing or continued to complain about a mistake he made previously. I braved some piccong to point this out during the second half, but the crowd was in a good mood by then and didn't take me on. Just before he was subbed out he made a hard 30-40 yard run back to tackle a Jamaican attacker. People bitterly complained that he did not get up and sprint forward to support the attack and his good defensive pressure was ignored.
    • Guerra, Winchester (he was #13?) and #8 showed decent maturity and work rate. Guerra at times could have been a bit more aggressive in challenging for aerial balls, but that was a minor consideration against his good touch, willingness to attack the defenders and overall work rate. Both of our full backs were aggressive, yet controlled and our wing backs were willing to get forward on occasion. I would like to see them cross the ball a bit more though.
  • Boucaud continued to impress in that holding midfield position. He presented for the ball early, protected it well, he made good safe passes in the middle zone of the field, but was also willing to take the ball forward and make more attacking passes. He and Birchall worked well together. Too bad we won't see that again.

What I liked about the performance is that while Jamaica were ordinary we just got on with the job and played to the game plan. We ensured that we took care of business and didn't give them any serious oportunities except for a freekick that Williams pushed around the post for a corner and a couple of blocked shots. My hope is that for Digicel Cup, when points are up for grabs, that we can reproduced. I wouldn't call it a polished performance, but it was a good one.
