Seagulls put block on Birchall teaming up with Beckham
8:00am Tuesday 7th April 2009

Albion have put on hold the prospect of Chris Birchall becoming a team-mate of David Beckham in the States.

LA Galaxy have reportedly placed a ‘discovery notice’ on Birchall, which means no other Major League Soccer club can make an approach to sign him.

The Seagulls turned down a request from the former Coventry midfielder’s agent to allow him to spend a couple of days with Galaxy while he was on international duty recently with Trinidad and Tobago.

Boss Russell Slade said: “At the moment he has got a big part to play still in our squad.”

Meanwhile, calf injury victims Gary Borrowdale and Gary Hart have travelled with the squad to Hereford after resuming training yesterday.

Both will be assessed in a training session this morning ahead of tonight's key relegation clash. Slade said: “If they come through that they will definitely be considered.”

Albion will be especially keen to be first to break the deadlock at Edgar Street.

They have a good record away from home in the League after scoring the opening goal, going on to win four, draw two and lose just once, at Leyton Orient.

They have only picked up two away points in ten games when they have conceded the first goal and one of those was at rock-bottom Cheltenham.

Football / Annual South Florida Zonal tournament: recap
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:06:28 AM »
As some of you may know, every August we have our Zonal football tournament here in South Florida, this year we moved to a new park, The Pit, on Davie Blvd just west of 441.
This year we were blessed with great weather, even though its was one of the hottest days I have ever experienced it was better than getting rained out and as usual the atmosphere was real nice as usual, 'cept for one incident jus before the final match that i wont give any further life to by discussing.

Many a forumite have graced the field of this tournament, myself, duscam and Tallman to name a few.  The likes of Troy Marquis, Jason Nelson have also been a part of it.  Usually its dominated by East and Tobago.  East does be the best of course, and Tobago does have bout 30 players so each half of each game is fresh legs. Well after losing the final on penalties last year North came out guns blazing this year and recruit a bunch of young college players to sweat for them, Spike, Bennie, Lamy and some other I cant recall but have seen them wizzing around me on Sundays.  This year i did not play for East due to an enlarged midsection and a number of ladies on the sidelines needing my attention.  There were some rumblings from the South team in the weeks leading up to last Sunday, and i really thought they were gonna show and prove this year, I mean they win for best dressed, them boys had Tshirt in addition to Joma kits down to they bright yellow socks and all.  Never let it be said that Steve Shand and SoccerWorld have not given back to the local community.
This year was again the usualy brand from them south boys, our very own Dumpalewie was on the receivng end of 5 of the best from the East team, we calling him Placido Domcinco from now on.
Before the final match there was an exhibition game between a team from Miami vs Limers FC (no lime too far), Tallman sweat in this match for the Miami team, and they start off hot and sweaty, scoring in like the 1st minute of them game, than a 2nd to add some cushion. But Limers stuck it out and put 3 unanswered on them to win 3-2, I will not use this opporutinity to report on Tallman skills, since I myself did not put on a kit and get out there far be it for me to say the corner flag play better D, it jus would not be right.
The final was hotly contested between North and East again, and I do mean hottly, there was almost a lil scuffle and real blade was passing.  With all they youngguns on the North the East team was holding their own, fighting to the end even when going down 2 goals.  The play of the game have to be the save the North keeper make on a very well taken Mickey Rat free kick that was heading straight for the V and that man reach over and tip it out, made even more incredible because before the final started I know for a fact that he was well drunk and not very steady on his feet. and so it ended at 10pm, 2-0 North avenging their 2007 loss.
ah starting to train from today, ah go be ready for 2010.

N.B. there was a tall redskin youth with long hair playing D for the East team, very very solid player, I will try to find out his name.

Not sure if anyone brought this up.\
Just saw on the news that Densil has been called back up to the squad, and proceeded to say that he found out that the reason he had been dropped was because he handed over the captain's armband to Stern before the Guadeloupe friendly without Pacho permission. He went on to say that both he and the coach spoke and have put the matter behind them.Found that strange that he would hand over the armband easy so without even talking to the coach!
Also why did it take so long for him to find out that was the reason for not being called up

dat is a reason to get vex?? what do Pacho boy

hell yeah!!

if i am the coach and i hand you the armband, who tell yuh tek it off and give it to somebody else!!!!
ride out and cool yuhself for a lil bit,

Anybody realise that we drop down to 102 in the world, and 10th in concacaf, even behind Surinam. Time to wakeup and win big games

Warner and other leaders wait till thing go bad to finally notice the current squad was not that talented.  Bring back Beenhaker's players

How all yuh so my friend? Babalawo, dis is nothing personally directed at you, but also to all de Warner haters. It seem day doh matter what Mr.Warner do, all yuh does still criticise de man. At least for once, leave all de money accusation thing out of all yuh head, and just try and appreciate his efforts nah man, good lawd. Please some of you all try dat and see if all yuh heart might still beat after dat  :(. HIGHLY BLESSED.

agreed! :beermug:

I find praising Jack for bringing back these players is like when a drunk driver fall asleep at the wheel and bounce down a man on the side of the road, then, when he tie a tournequet around the man leg he get praise for his actions...STUEEPS!!!

No pat on yuh back for doing what you supposed to do in the first place and no praise for facking up a situation then finally trying to set it right.
Maturana shoulda been called these men, and Jack shoulda had all the 2006 WC players steady playing together for the past 2 years so we would not now, be starting our 2010 preperations a month before the 1 match in the next rounds that we almost miss.

Fack Jack.

As a man said in another thread Bruce Arena would be an excellent prospect.

Bruce Arena has no respect for our footballing ability and does not posess the patience I believe to work down here.

Why do you say that? where's the evidence to suggest likewise?

I myself did suggest Arena, but he did have some less than flattering things to say bout T&T jus before the 2006WC.
I would hope that an interview with him would really reveal his thoughts about us as a potential employer with the chance to make a difference and make changes as opposed to us as CONCACAF competition.

so while i still think he could get the guys fit and working hard as a team, it would be if and only IF he didnt come in with an attitude.

I should think this man know what he doing...I behind him 100%...Get the Pro Leagueand TTFF involved...The only way we standard of football will raise regardless of South Africa is at the youth level and believe it or not the Pro League can play an important role in developing our players..That alliance have to be there...The Proleague cyah have one goal the National setup have another and TTFF have another...They have to think along the same line therefore I think that meeting is an indication that they at least try to get the ball rolling...T&T football need structure and if we are to capitalize on any talent we have we have build one sooner rather than later...Maturana take it upon himself to be the man using Local players and in form players rather than having a policy that overseas is a must...Simoes came and tried something similar....Look at it this way...anytime T&T have a youth team from under 13 something good does always come out of it..even if is one player...Most posters on this site only concerned with going to South Africa ...making the trip ...scraping through qualifiers.,...reach South Africa and get beat and go home in the first round and everybody good with that...Is a big lime, rel beers, women, hotel the works...and everyone fine with that.....Just like Germany...I not satisfied with that .....I might coime probably next 10-15 years but I want to see the day when we going to the World Cup and competing with other teams instead of making up numbers..Ther eis enough talent and poor structure based on school football played for 4 months in the year which usually means 2-3 months of trainng beforehand to get ready for it..A youth might play minor league or some mickey mouse football...with a bunch of poor coaches with no head no tactical brain and improper training methods to encourage good technique, zero nutrtion and strength regimes...We have been getting by on this crap for so long but now is time to try and excel...How much of us could come on the website and say we know someone who was a dam good footballer and they int reach nowhere...I think all of us could say that...Is time we use our talent and stop looking for short term victories....Go T&T !!!

I don't thimk Maturana taking anything upon himself, when it come to team selection.  JW make sure and pick a coach who will toe the line and talk the company talk and not be a rebel. no good for we football!!!

Its good that he working with the youth, but yuh cyah throw away present day footballers or have a right to be talent, skill and desire to be selected. He will go ahead with this team, get licks in the next round and ride out, and there goes all that talk bout structure and developing youth football out the window.
How does that look to a youth coming up looking at the scene knowing that Birchall is good enough to be on the team but yet they not picking him, must make him wonder what really going on in the administration, and why would one bother to put up with such drama.

When these guys spewing these foolish reasons for non selection of players isnt somebody there to ask a followup question and say "But what about...."

Ah like how man iz be quick tuh call Latapy name in de jump up... and not one soul could comment on his coaching competence......

if the setup and supporting staff around him is configured right, I for one would support Latapy as Manager despite whatever coaching credentials (or lack thereof) he brings to the table.

That could work..

you have a man who the entire nation and player pool look up to and adore steering the ship. You can't buy a personality like that and the level of respect he would bring to the table just because of who he is. I could see everyone being on the same page and trying to achieve the same goal playing for the manager. Petty differences could be put to one side.

That said, he must have a good supporting technical staff to buffer any lack of tactical abilities and expertise.

I think thats how it worked with Klinnsman, Rijkaard (for holland), Voeller, Bilic and a host of others on the international stage.

I for dat.

I agree with you on that. I for one would love to see the trio of LATAS SHAKA AND YORKE at the helm
now that would be a strong technical team. SHAKA handling the keepers, Yorke second in command, Latas as head coach

Fenwick is a kaka hole.

I would like to see Yorke, Latas and Shaka running all of TnT football.
Yorke as Technical Director
Latas as Coach and
Shaka as head of the TTFF

we would be in good business, a bright future.

What they should also add to the list to be discussed is who they have in mind should they replace Maturana and Corneal,if they intend to replace them and how soon will that happen. All we hearing is they should be replaced but not hearing about any ideas/plans about what's next.

I'm sure this WILL come up and Gally Cummings' name will be mentioned...HE might even be one of the past players guesting. With the conclusion of Euro 2008 a number of Coaches ill/have become available - now whether they'd be interested/appropriate is another matter. NO doubt in my mind tho - Either Yorke or Latas would be a better choice for Assistant Coach - Corneal should def go!

Gally might be too bitter.
I think Bruce Arena would have them boys working hard!!!

Now, I’ve sit back and observed for a very, very long time, (and I know I’m risking being criticized for what im about to say, but who gives a f*&%)

I must say that everyone on, well not everyone but some of the persons on this forum are at times too judgmental, extremely critical and feel they are always right and could do much better when it comes to The TTFF &  JW. Some here cast aspersions and make erroneous statements that imply, that all they do entire day is sit in their executive leather chairs in the board room looking for ways to suck Trinidad dry of all its money and destroy our football to the point where it's beyond repair.  I don’t think anyone here can tell me that JW hasn't given a lot to football in Trinidad, more than any Gov’t, fan or Corporation has ever done. I also say that we have become so Anti - JW, that it's hard for us to see the good he has done. In my opinion, If it weren't for JW we would have never been able to hire a coach like Leo Beenhakker, and would have certainly never made the World Cup in 2006. I for one applaud him and thank him for the good he has done and for his tremendous contribution to the development of football in T&T. With that said, don't think I’m not aware that with the many good he has done, he has also allegedly been accused of taking a hell of alot more, which to this day (at least to my knowing) he has never been prosecuted for. Let me also say, by no means am I denying that the administrators are innocent of having our football in the terrible state that it’s in , and that their are serious issues to be dealt with in the TTFF. I for one believe its time for a new executive. But the question I’m getting to and asking you all to think carefully about is, where would our football be with out JW? Love him or hate him, he has done a lot, and if he exits our football affairs, is there anyone capable enough and with the connections JW has to champion our cause and fight for Trinbagonian football?? I await your comments...

this sounds exactly like ah discussion I had with my boy when i was home a few weekends ago.
Jack innocent since he never been convicted.
Nobody forced the players to strike.
etc etc

who goes there is that you???

GET OVER THE COLLIN SAMUEL DEAL...  I know the man blank Maturana for the Jamaica game in Jamaica, but you are two grown men and get over for the sake of TnT.  Give the man another call up.  He was going through some rough times in Canada and also was release by Toronto FC.  Put your egos aside and make this happen.

Next...
Since you are stead fast with your squad thinking its the best T&T has to offer.  I challenge you for a practice match vs the Soca Warriors B squad to see if these players do belong.

                                   Kelvin Jack
Cyd Gray (is back from injury)  Brent Sancho -  Julius James - Avery John

Anthony Wolfe - Chris Birchall - Denzil Theobald - Collin Samuel

                    Cornell Glenn - Trent Noel

From there you can see upclose and introduce your self to get to know these guy more and see if they fit to fit you squad.  This will end the blacklist theory and that you can pick any player of trini passport. yes you can play the game in you MLStadium if you want  ;D

put Spann and Patterson and Hardest on that team too.

Patterson aready in Maturana's plan.  Stern John took his spot...  Hardest too soft for international football...  Yes Spann in for Trent Noel cuz, and move Wolfe up front with Glenn.

We aint deep enough for men to be losing they spot in the training squad.
I forget Sealy too, all these men should be in camp for the next few weeks fighting for spots.
I also find if we overloaded with forwards, and some of the mids not up to par then let some them extra forwards play in the middle, we need out best players on the field.
Imagine Cornell and Stern up front, and Jones sitting behind the two strikers using his  passing ability to link the mids and forwards as an attacking mid.  Then Whitley could be more defensive, but still with the ability to go forward if the opportunity arose.

Its very frustrating, but we are growing stronger day by day. The disapointing aspect is that we could achieve so much more for our members, supporters and the people of T&T if Mr Warner supported us.

never happen!

Hindsight is always 20/20 and I dont think anyone would have predicted that Jack would ban the best footballers in the country after they took us to the promise land and made us proud.
But, I still think it was worth it for them to stand up and fight.  Them fellas is the Rosa Parks of TnT football civil rights. they will go down in history, i hope we always remember what the sacrificed.

I have a tactics question?
How do you score against against a team that will sit 10 men in the defense, and clog up the field and passing lanes.
If you cross the ball into the box, our forwards will be surrouned.
If you try to take route 1 and go down the middle it will be over crowded and everyone will be man marked.
Whats the solution?

Mr MC.

You go down the flank...it is one - two players max you contend with.

Then you cut in and beat and they will kick you down...Penalty!

After you do it the first time they will be fraid to tackle and you set it up..small goal style...by line...square back...tap in.

Last ditch resort...let Tallest go on top and knock down the air ball...they did that in the last 10 min and it produced most of the chances for stern to throwaway.

Keep the faith..we beating Bermuda.

I was at the game and Carlos had no problem going down the flank and cutting back on his man.  Most times he would look to make the cross in and find Stern and Scotty surrounded so the ball into the box would find  them out numbered or if he tried to beat into the box he was losing the ball.
I think Bermuda beat us on sheer determination and fight.  And I think the best tactic for us is the pepper the keepr with shots, but it going to be hard to pass the ball right to Stern foot so he dont have to run for it with so much people in the box.

When we do beat them what will become of us in the next rounds???

Well I have to agree with Palos and MidKnight on this one.  Why not play men who more than likely WILL be on the team than jes run ah youth for de sake of ah run..if Bertille was de one up to he old tricks what allyuh woulda be saying.

I glad we have young talent, but I really doh see Britto being de type ah prodigy like ah Maradona or ah Norman Whiteside of Michael Owen...dat he go jes walk into the starting team come qualifiers.   so what is de real scene?  Like Maturana feel we have the spot locked up so he already grooming  players to replace older ones come 2010?

Why bring in players into positions where we already have an abundance of available talents and neglect de spots where we short..as Palos rightly questioned.

Maybe dey trying to give him CAPS, but ah thougth fuh ah youth player dat eh so important?

I hate f**king Wim, but Maturana making meh wonder boy.

TT I thoght one of your biggest complaints bot Wim was that he was only out for himself and did not care bout the development of TnT football and player development?
So why now the problem with Maturana giving some of these kids a look see?  If these are not the games for them to get a run, I cant think of a better time, the games will only get more and more important as we get closer to 2010.
