Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs Wales Game (20-Mar-2019)
« on: March 19, 2019, 11:24:26 PM »
The June start is a much-modified kick-off date for the league. Let's not pretend that it is not. The projected start date has been shifted and adjusted not through planning to start in June from the inception, but through having to make incremental changes to strike a balance as the league strives to get on firmer ground.

AM, I know you are not the messenger or water carrier for the league. Nonetheless, what you have pointed out emphasizes one of the maladies with the state of domestic football that I have alluded to ... there is something strikingly wrong with the picture of one team deep into a training regimen and other teams in various stages of engagement from idleness/relative idleness to trying to achieve the financial prerogatives necessary to be included in this year's competition and to attract players/rebuild squads. There is never firm ground where there is shifting sand and there are elements surrounding the league that play out like musical chairs ... some club is always the odd man out. Also, the condition of mass exodus of players at club level in domestic football has to be addressed.

The picture of shifting starting dates and league calendars has been an unstable and accommodating one from year to year. In theory and in practice, that should not be the case. The PL's flexible start dates have been influenced by several factors, many of which revolve around financing. But the practice does not kick the theory to the curb.

This year, with the UEFA input ... we get it, there's a comprehensive picture that can't be plastered over or rushed. And, the decision-makers in the league are frank and plain talking people, not obstructionists.

I say all of that as a friend of the PL who literally spent tens of hours trying to help impartially at club level with an innovative solution when no subvention was available. Even that was hard.

It's an open secret that the provisional squad had players in various states of inactivity.  What I'm suggesting is that the preparation for Wales need not have been viewed as a binary choice, because not all players who are or should be on the cusp of a NT call-ups are at Rangers or Police, because they themselves shared the same states of inactivity shared by those actually brought in to the provisional prep.

There is no perfect solution or choice. Just options, choices and optimality.

Everything you are saying is spot on and is the damning reality. One can only hope for a light at the end of the tunnel. And for the few that still want to fight the good fight, good luck.

Ironically though, considering the exodus of players to USL, India, etc and the Army guys who are in training, almost all the other players of decent quality, it looks like are at La Horquetta Rangers and Police. The talent pool is extremely shallow at the moment for pro league clubs which speaks to a larger problem.

June use to be the traditional opening of football in TT. It ran until December. Then the pro- league try to run the league along Euro schedule. It failed.  I was long and boring. Invisible fans.  Our league to to small to run a 9 month schedule. The league should be compact.  It should run until the end of Jan. If ever the league expands to 18 teams, then I could see a 9 month schedule.

Newsday asked if his recent promise to regularise Venezuelans to work for up to a year in T&T could create a labour market distortion by migrants exploited to work for far lower wages than locals.

DJW sinking everybody, including his own team. He absolutely don't care. You mean to say this man don't know about the FIFA licensing. This man with Infante, the Concacaf president or whatever president he is. And you mean to say he don't know that. All he care about is the money he will get from building the house of TTFA kix-ball. Honestly John!

His team lost yesterday. Bayern within striking distance. But he is a fantastic young player. Glad he went against the grain and departed England to create his "own" identity.

Congrats, Stern?

Should we start gathering funds now to pay the new coach at least a honorarium? Or should we direct that $ to Latapy and sort Stern later?

It's always hard to tell in these matters.

Your guess is good as the rest of the forum!

Like I said, the next president of the TTFA must have deep pockets,  or friends and associates with very deep pockets.

Theobald is a good person to run but he don't have the money and will have the same problems.

You need some millionaire to run the TTFA.

What!!!! Sam is that you. Nah! This is another "Sam" impersonating the real Sam. Blessing Breds. But you are conrrect about Densil ambitions. Any TTFA President, must have access to substantial amount of money. Before that person decides. He or she must have very long term financial backers. With very deep pockets. Good luck to him.

US U-20 won the tournament and qualify for U-20 WC. Their second straight.

The U-20 U.S. men’s national team had already clinched a spot in the U-20 World Cup in Poland next summer, but Tab Ramos’ youngsters sealed their second-straight CONCACAF Championship title on Wednesday.

Get ready to see a few of these players in USMNT squads in the months and years to come.

The young Yanks beat Mexico 2-0 in Bradenton, Florida with Alex Mendez scoring twice with a lovely finish in the first half and then the SC Freiburg product finished off a rapid counter in the second half to seal the win.

Mendez won the Golden Ball at the tournament for the best player and he also had the most goals with eight, while U.S. stopper Brady Scott was awarded the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper. Before the last two tournaments the U.S. had never won the U-20 CONCACAF Championship.

Ramos’ work with these youngsters should not be overlooked, as they’ve now been crowned champs of CONCACAF for the second time on the trot under his tutelage and he’s also led them to four-straight World Cups.

Below you can watch the two goals from Mendez which sealed the title for the youngsters.

Colin knows what is going on. What he says is correct. The rumblings by  TTSL grumblers  is pure "russian meddling" by DJW and his crew. A page out of the vampire JW.  Again, Contro. get your people ready for elections. And make sure they have deep pockets.

Silliness by Pan Trinbago. There should have been a rule addressed to the issue of changing one's tune during competition.

I agree with you. But I think a band should be able to change their tune. Before the 32 or 16, I am not sure where to draw the line.

So what happens when a pro-team ends up last. Does it still stay up? Demoted? I also think the FA trophy winners should get a shot to play in the CFU club championships.
