Football / What Development looks like
« on: December 09, 2021, 08:06:17 AM »
These are the things that you don't hear about but are essential to the development of the game in Europe.

Yesterday before Man Utd. played Young Boys in the Champioms League.....Man Utd. U19 played Young Boys U19 in the Youth Champions League

When ever senior national teams like England play an international friendly......their u21 team plays the same Country the day before.

This is what a Concacaf Technical Committee is supposed to be implementing in this region

...oh wait... Jack Warner disbanded the Concacaf Technical Committee  :banginghead:

If our young players get this kind of exposure
1. they can be seen and get contracts at a younger age
1. they will develop faster and make better senior team players

We have to move away from only have a youth team a few months before a tournament.....and develop an consistent program with regular meaningful games for them to play in order to foster their development.

2
1st Form League
U14 League
U16 League

All had National Champions named this year.....but no Tobago Team was part of the competition.

All the zones in Trinidad were represented by their respective winners who played to be crowned as champions, but the Tobago Zone was not included.
How are our young boys to gain the experience and develop in order to have a fighting chance to compete and excel at the Premier Division level, when they are denied the opportunity.

Let me tell you about development....Half the boys on the u14 Tobago Zone winning team play for Jaric Titans. This year they won the Tobago Zone of the Republic Cup and got the opportunity to compete against the other zone winners in Trinidad.....They made it all the way to the finals before tasting defeat. The next step in their development was SSFL. So they win the Tobago Zone and have an opportunity for further development by competing in the National Competition.....You deny them this opportunity to develop..
Next year as u16s the same thing happens....lets say at u19 level they also win the Tobago Zone and even gain promotion to the Premier Division. They then are thrown into the league with absolutely no experience competing against the best in Trinidad in the SSFL. What do you think will be the outcome.
The answer to that is very easy.....all you have to do is to look at the season that BHS had in the Premier Division this year.......after suffering the same fate of being denied the opportunity at u14 and u16 levels that they also won in the preceding years.
No Tobago Team has been able to cement a place in the Premier Division....we qualify and we are demoted. Year after year people question the level of football in Tobago....they question the ability of the coaches, they question the ability of the players. They ask if we players eating too much KFC..... and stop eating dasheen.

SSFL I beg you as a parent, as a coach and as a Tobagonian..... Please do not continue to leave us out of the development plan of the SSFL.

A little background on myself...I am the coach of that Titans u14 team that made it to the finals of the Republic Cup and an assistant coach at BHS. I was also an assistant coach at a primary school here in Tobago. Over the years I have had a few opportunities to attend coaching development courses, and to coach in Trinidad, so I have a bit of a taste of the atmosphere. I have had to opportunity to rub shoulders with coaches like Sean Cooper, Brian Williams, Dada, Ken Elie, Mr. Bateau....to name a few. Because I had these opportunities in the past I have been able to develop as a coach and am now able to coach at this level.

Football / TnT Caribbean Cup Team-Midfields
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:51:19 AM »
Ok so I agree with Charles that the right wing needs strength. Hashim Arcia is not the answer, so who is ??
Hector was switching from left to right to middle. To me he looks best on the left. But what if Keon Daniel is available ? and what is the real issue with his Visa ???

Jeovin Jones moved from left back to attacking midfeld, is that his best position ? Does he play there if Birchall comes ?

Do we play two defensive or deep lying mids in Birchall and Theobald ?? Does one sit on the bench ? or does Theobald play higher up the field ?

Where does Lester Peltier fit in, right wing, attacking mid or striker ?

Peltier or Carlos on the right ? does age decide this ?

Who else is available ??

Four in the middle or five ??

Football / TnT Caribbean Cup Team-Strikers
« on: November 22, 2012, 08:15:19 AM »
Ok I want to break down this position for the up coming tournament. In the last rounds we used Devon Jorsling, Richard Roy and (to switch to a more defensive line up) Keyon Edwards.

Jorsling scored against SVG
Roy scored against Suriname
Edwards missed a glorious opportunity against Cuba(although I can understand how tired he was)

Do we think that these player can carry us to the next level ?

Should we bring in strikers for the next tournament ?

Who should we bring ?

Should we be playing with one striker or two ?

I realize that they have already put in a call for Kenwyne Jones but what or who else is available ?

Keep in mind that we would probably only be able to carry two out and out strikers and probably a player that can play more that one position as was the case with Keyon Edwards. So who should the two or three be ?

Just got the call from the boys mother. She was told that the '16 year old boy' needs a National I D Card in order to get a TnT Passport.

Because he is from Tobago, he has to go back to Tobago to apply for the I D Card.

The Manager had arranged for 8 boys on the team to get their passports fast tracked as this is a requirement for participation in the WCQs which start next week.

Ah trying to get on to my contact in the Immigration Office here in Tobago to check out this claim.

Tobago football association games carded for today at the DYS had to be cancelled so that the DYS can be prepared to host a Children's Christmas Party being hosted by the Honorable Prime Minister.

The notification was given to the TFA today...... AFTER LUNCH !!!!!

SO I have to ask, When was this party planned?

I don't know but would this happen in Trinidad ?

Once again the sport of football is shown no respect what so ever.

By the way, who is invited to this party that nobody in Tobago knows about?

Football / Best Fete Match Stadium in TnT
« on: October 11, 2010, 08:17:59 AM »
Belive it or not the biggest fete match venue in TnT is the Dwight Yorke Stadium.
Week in week out the Stadium remains closed to use by the Tobago Football Association and the Secondary School's Football League and the Pro League, but on weekends you can drive by and see cars in the parking lot and games in action on the field.

What is really going on here ??

SSFL games in Trinidad are being played at the Stadia there, and the Pro League Knockout games are certinly playing. So why are the people of Tobago being denied access to their Stadium. Not even the training ground.
How can the TFA, the SSFL and even Tobago United, be expected to function efectively if they cannot make money. Football in Tobago is relegated to the level of vagrants, having to beg for any and everything that they can get.

No wonder Tobago United has been left out of the rest of the Pro League.
How can any sporting organization be expected to operate under these conditions.

Unable to make any money from gate recipts, this means that every cent has to come from sponsorship.

What makes it even worse is that as of the end of October, Shaw Park (the only other Paying Venue) is being closed to prepare for the up comming Cricket Season.

They say that the Stadium was being closed after the World Cup to facilitate repairs to the structure......this has not started.

Did you know that the Dwight Yorke Stadium has about the best playing surface in the Nation, probably only rivaled by the Hasley Crawford......Why.......because nobody can use it !!!!!!

Football / Which Tobago United ?
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:02:39 AM »
You never know which Tobago United will show up for a game. Last week I witnessed a side showing lack of experience loose 4 - 1 to the Pro League Champs Joe Public. Now they were not disgraced but their lack of experience showed in the way that they conceided the goals.
Yesterday was even more confusing...we thought it was going to be the same old story when North East Stars scored, but then Tobago United turned up to the party and boy did they come to play. By the end of the 1st half they were up 2 goals to 1. A deft chip over and advancing goal keeper by the strong running and skillful "Showtime" and a header from a free kick meters in from the corner flag put in by the influential Dwayne Jack. As the 2nd half went by their were chances at both end with North East Stars even hitting the post. before the game ended Tobago United had at least four good ooprtunities to add to their advantage and should have been clear if North Eat Stars.....
Then.....as with most games last year.....they let the game slip away. Now don't be mistaken, Errol Mac Farlane is a class player and deserved his 2 goals, but Tobago United of old showed they ugly head that is their legacy. The game ended ina 2 - 2 draw.

This team as always has the abality to play and compete with the big boys of the Por League...but they can't seem to find a way to beat them. Things should be different as the addition of some of Tobago's better players have already added quality to this side. The one called "Showtime" is a good player and should add a few goals to the Tobago United cause this year. Azel Taylor in midfield looks good and should get better as the season fo on.. Fore the first time they were able to field they first string keeper this season and it showed. Had he been their last week it would not have been 4-1. People there is nore to come from this side this season. There are lots of other names tat I could point out but I have run out of time. Will continue to give updates on their home games this season.

Football / National Youth League Kicks off...What about Tobago ?????
« on: April 30, 2010, 08:10:31 AM »

Published: 30 Apr 2010
http://guardian.co.tt/sports/football/2010/04/30/national-youth-league-kicks

The second Fifa-endorsed National Youth League kicks off tomorrow at various venues, including Waterloo Secondary School in the South, Marvin Lee Stadium in the East and Debe Recreation Ground in the West. Last year’s champions bmobile Joe Public and 1st FC Santa Rosa will take part this year to defend their trophies in the expanded league of 27 teams in age groups Under 14, 16 and 18.

The project, a part of the Win With Concacaf programme, is aimed at professionalising the league by producing well qualified management personnel and efficient running teams. This year the programme has targeted the administrative staff of the National Super League for a four day live in Club Management Course facilitated by Fifa.

No mention of Tobago. Our youths and management don't need development !!!!

Football / The reality of world football....can we really compete ??
« on: December 23, 2009, 07:49:03 AM »
Just look at the Cameroon squad named for the African Nations Cup.

Cameroon Squad: Carlos Kameni (Espanyol, Spain), Hamidou Souleymanou (Kayserispor, Turkey), Guy N'Dy Assembe (Valenciennes, France), Rigobert Song (Trabzonspor, Turkey), Geremi (Newcastle United, England), Henri Bedimo (Chateauroux, France), Andre Bikey (Burnley, England), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham Hotspur, England) Aurelien Chedjou (Lille, France), Nicolas Nkoulou (AS Monaco, France), Alex Song (Arsenal, England), Jean Makoun (Lyon, France), Stephane Mbia (Marseille, France), Georges Mandjeck (Kaiserslautern, Germany), Joel Matip (Shalke 04, Germany), Enoh Eyong (Ajax Amsterdam, Holland), Landry Nguemo (Celtic, Scotland), Achille Emana (Real Betis, Spain), Somen A Tchoyi (Red Bull Salzburg, Austria), Paul Alo'o Efloulou (AS Nancy, France), Achille Webo (Mallorca, Spain), Mohamadou Idrissou (SC Freiburg, Germany), Samuel Eto'o (Inter Milan, Italy)

Every single player platinf in the 1st or 2nd division in a league in Europe. Can we realistically expect to compete with these teams on a consistent basis if we are not producing the kind of quality players that they are. Players playing in Spain, France, England, Germany, Scotland, Italy, Holland and Turkey.

What do they know that we don't ? Is it that they sending players out from young or are they producing such great talant at home....... what are we doing to get there ?

Football / How do we get the next 3 points ?
« on: August 14, 2009, 10:35:43 AM »
These are the problems that our favorite National Coach has to face over the next 3 weeks leading up to our next WCQ

1. UK based players in their forst 2 or 3 weeks of the season and are not available for any warm up games.

2. Locals still have to play Pro League games.

3. US based in mid-season. James and Birchall with new teams so no way they getting any time off of friendlies.

3. Europe based too far away to fly home at the drop of a dime. Hyland, Neaves, Roberts etc. And it even more expensive then UK based to fly home.

So the questions remain...

Who will he train and when ??

To be fair to him so far he has brought some local players to the front and allowed them to play:
Abu Bakr
Keston Williams
Hayden Tinto

And to a lesser extent
Trent Noel
Clyde Leon

Surley more money from Jack or even the Govt. will not help this situation.

so my question is how do we get the next 3 points ??

Football / Tobago United wins its first game of the Season !!!
« on: July 22, 2009, 09:31:11 AM »
Just saw this on the sw.net website (nowhere else mind you). They beat South End F.C. 3 nil.

:applause: Congrats to the boys from the Sister Isle.

Tobago slam South End 3-0 to register first win.
By: Randy Bando.

Bottom of the table Tobago United registered their first victory of the 2009 Digicel Pro League on Tuesday night trashing FC SouthEnd 3-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

Sean Cooper (25th), Jason Cudjoe (40th) and Kayode McKinnon (50th) were the goalscorers for the Tobagonians against the southerners.

However Tobago United remain at the bottom of the standings with just 7 points while South End remain in eight with 9 points after the Round Two Match Day One clash.

At the Larry Gomes Stadium Ma Pau SC pulled back a 1-1 draw against Police FC through Trevin Caesar’s 59th minute strike after Todd Ryann had the lawmen 1-0 up in the 20th minute.

Ma Pau remain fifth on the standings with 15 points while Police moved up one spot into ninth with 9 points.

Football / Soca Warriors 5 - 1 Tobago United

Right first of all, don't take anything from the score line.

Now the game was supposed to be against a Tobago Select Team but this was canceled a few day ago as was being reported by some media. The opening of the Tobago League was moved to Roxborough and Latapy requested a closed door game against TU.

This though was not a closed door affair as the stadium was full (by Tobago standards) of spectators. I though was an invited guest () and was able to get up close to the players.
Starting line up for TnT......and please hold on to your seat

                                               Ince

Makan Hislop                  Dog                  Tallest                   Keon Daniel

Carlos Edwards           Birchall                Yorke                      Colin Samuel

                            Kerry Baptiste           Jason Scotland

Now I was in shock and it took me a while to realise that it wasn't 3 at the back at all but Keon Daniel was in fact playing at left back......(what the A$$....) and Makan Hislop at right back(!@#$%)......anyway ball playing and tings ent looking too bad but we not dominating....then a Keon Daniel pick up a ball and I hear Latapy saying "take it foward" this he did with great effect... one pass to Birchall who feeds Yorke...one nil. That though was the best action of the first half except one or two over bar from Scotland.

Tobago United were boasted by the addition of Athulla Guerra (I belive) Hughton Hector (I belive) and Abu Bakr and they showed why they are on the national team...... but also why they are not starters. Them men want to walk the ball onto the goal. They had many clear opportunities to shoot at goal and failed to do so. Also Jan Micheal Williams saved for them in the 2nd half.

2nd Half and the same team comes out and after some hard work the goals start going in and the changes are being made by both teams. Tobago United were even putting players back on who had come off before.....
anyway the 2nd goal came from Scotland then finally Kerry Baptiste found his scoring boots and scored three (one was disallowed for offside) To be honest ah was too excited to remember who score the other goal.
Game done and then it was time to take out pics with the players (which I will get help to post in a while)

My view
Ince - No problem in goal

Makan Hislop - Please call back Cyd Gray. Makan is a center back full stop.

Keon Daniel - Was under no real presure but he showed his true class going foward. Please play him in a more advanced position where he can contribute. Home boy was being left as the last defender on corners (what the f@#$%^)

Dog - Fit and experienced but he is as much a liability as he was before his injury. But right now not the worst option.

Tallest - No problem there The only goal came after he was substituted.

Keyno Thomas(on for Tallest) - Cannot play alongside Dog .... Slow and Slower.

Birchall - Why not.. his work rate is needed. Made some nice turns with the ball to get out of trouble. Was let down a bit by players around him, but he is not free of guilt.

Yorke - Looks fit...arms, chest and legs are huge. Seems a bit out of touch and made some bad passes. Controled the game well with clever change of direction and showed his usual level head.

Carlos - What can we say about Carlos....good to look at going forward BUT !!!!!! I think he needs to add a powerfull shot to his game. he can score lots more goals if he could shoot properly. When he moved to right back he played well but lazy... only calling back man to cover.

Colin Samuel - I was expecting more from him. Has too much pace and power to be stopped by a Tobago United right back.

Jason Scotland - He scored but he did not have much chances in front of goal. He too was a little below my expectations...we all know he has power in both feet and is not afraid to use them...just didn't happen enough today.

Kerry Baptiste - ????Two goals in the 2nd half......Did not complement the side, should probably scored 5 or 6 with better play and judgement.

No.14 (came on and played right wing) - Must be on the side. he is quick and can turn a defender, was whipping them in when ever he got the chance......could do with more playing time with the better players.(Kenwyne Jones)

Bleeder (came on and played left wing) - played solid but we need more than that.

Abu Bakr (played with Tobago United) - Helped them out alot but not ready in my opinion for the national team.

Hughton Hector (I think that is who it was playing for Tobago United) - Short strong player with good feet but not making my natonal side.....want to carry the ball into the net.

Athulla Guerra (I think that is who it was playing for Tobago United) - Skill full player... noticed him at the first training session that I went to. Needs experience......needs to shoot.

No. 8 (came on and played center Mid)  - Strong player, got in some good tackles, also needs to shoot. Not bad comming off the bench

Hyland - Needs more playing time as he has what it takes to be a better player.

The high point of this game
A number 14 came on and played right wing..... which meant that our wing backs were Carlos and Keon that was a heart stopping thing to think about but they were really under no pressure......but guys this fella had the crowd going. He is short quick and could dribble...I think he was responsible for about 2 goals. he was a real pleasure to watch. I think that somebody said that it was Hayden Tinto. That youth have to play there in front of Carlos. His style of play more suits TnT.

Low Points of the game
1. Keon Daniel at left back
2. Keon Daniel and Carlos Edwards at wing back at the same time
3. Dog and Thomas playing in the center at the same time
4. Hughton Hector mash Dwight Yorke and had him limping for a few mins
5. The amount of good opportunities we lat pass and did not turn them into shots at goal
6. The number of shots Tobago United had at our goal
7. The center of our defense not quite clicking like before but still good enough to keep out Tobago United

Cricket Anyone / Lara, Gayle engineer Windies victory
« on: September 19, 2006, 12:14:14 AM »
West Indies successfully chased 273 for a nervous three-wicket win over Australia, despite a hundred from Mike Hussey in the fourth match of the three-nation One-day International series yesterday at the Kinrara Academy Oval.

Half-centuries from captain Brian Lara and opener Chris Gayle laid the foundation for the West Indies’ victory with 16 balls spare, and catapulted them to the top of the standings with nine points, which virtually assured them a place in the Final on Sunday.

Lara hit 11 fours and one six in 87 from 80 balls. He added 151 for the third wicket with fellow left-hander Gayle, whose 79 from 93 deliveries contained seven fours and three sixes.

Lara’s dismissal in the 41st over triggered a mini collapse, however. West Indies slipped from the comfort of 242 for three to 255 for seven in the 44th over, before Dwayne Bravo and Carlton Baugh, Jr, steered them to safe harbour.

Bravo struck the winning run, when he drove Andrew Symonds to mid-on for a single and was not out on 37, but Baugh’s lofted drive over cover off Symonds in the 46th over for his only boundary had eased the pressure.

Brett Lee was the most successful Australian bowler with three wickets for 46 runs from his allotment of ten overs.

Hussey, one of seven changes to the Australian side for the match, and leading the side in place of the resting Ricky Ponting, led a recovery for the World champions with his highest ODI score and maiden ODI hundred of 109 not out.

Hussey hit ten fours and three sixes from 90 balls, as Australia, choosing to bat, reached 272 for six from their 50 overs.

He added 166 for the sixth wicket with Brad Haddin, whose 70 off 76 balls contained three fours and four sixes, as Australia recovered from 104 for five in the 26th over.

Ian Bradshaw was the pick of the West Indies bowlers with two for 35 from 10 overs, and Bravo took two for 52 from nine overs.

West Indies suffered a setback in the fifth over, when Shivnarine Chanderpaul was dubiously caught behind off Lee for a ten-ball duck.

TV replays clearly showed that umpire Asad Rauf's decision was incorrect, since the ball deviated off the top of the left-hander’s pad.

Ramnaresh Sarwan joined Gayle and he was just beginning to put his foot down on the accelerator following a couple of sweetly-timed off-drives for boundaries off Nathan Bracken, who had him caught behind for 25 in the 12th over.

West Indies were 44 for two, but Lara came to the wicket and knuckled down, and an imperious straight drive off Bracken for his second boundary signalled he meant business.

Hussey persisted with Stuart Clark, and Gayle and Lara took full toll of his bowling to leave him nursing the unflattering figures of none for 87 from seven overs.

A pull shot from Gayle off Clarke for six had disdain written all over it, and he was eyeing a hundred, when he pulled a short, rising delivery from Shane Watson and was caught mid-wicket in the 32nd over.

Lara continued to position West Indies for victory, but he was caught at slip off Lee in the 41st over, and the next 20 balls were a blur.

Wavell Hinds was caught behind off Lee for one driving loosely in the 43rd over, two balls later, Marlon Samuel was run out for a nine-ball duck looking to steal a single to backward point fielder Michael Clarke, and Dwayne Smith was bowled by Symonds for four in the 44th over, deceived by a slower ball.

Earlier, Matthew Hayden, playing his first ODI in over a year, held the first half of the Australia innings together with 49 from 77 balls that included five fours.

He and fellow left-hander Simon Katich put on 41 for the first wicket until Ian Bradshaw provided the breakthrough with a slick bit of fielding on the mid-wicket boundary.

A surprisingly strong, but accurate throw to ‘keeper Baugh produced the run out of Katich for 22.

Watson followed in the next over caught at mid-wicket off Jerome Taylor for a seven-ball duck, Symonds was caught at cover off Bradshaw for eight in the 16th over, and Clarke was caught at short third man for one to leave Australia 64 for four in the 18th over.

Hayden was joined by Hussey and they carried Australia past 100, before the opener was caught at backward point, leaving Hussey and Haddin to engineer the salvage operation.

Australia brought in Hussey, Hayden, Katich, Symonds, Dan Cullen, Lee, and Bracken for regular captain Ponting, Phil Jaques, Damien Martyn, Mark Cosgrove, Brad Hogg, Glenn McGrath, and Mitchell Johnson.

West Indies showed one change, replacing Fidel Edwards with Samuels.

West Indies top the standings with nine points with one match in hand, Australia are second on seven with one match to play, and India are last on two with two matches in hand.

Australia won the opening match over West Indies last Tuesday by 77 runs; West Indies beat India last Thursday by 29 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method; and the third match between Australia and India ended in a no-result because of rain.

“I think this is the kind of atmosphere in which we should work,” this was the assertion of T&T Football Federation (T&TFF) Special Advisor following Tuesday’s executive meeting the details of which were revealed yesterday at the Clico Hospitality Suite of the Queen’s Park Oval.
At that sit-down the federation was able to agree on a few major decisions concerning local football at all local levels including the confirmation of appointments to the coaching staffs of the four major national football teams.
“Of course,” Warner noted “the head coach (Wim Rijsbergen) can coach any team he desires and for as long as he desires.”
Rijsbergen, the national senior team coach, is assisted by Jan Van Diensen and Anton Corneal with Terrence Babwah serving as the team doctor. Van Diensen is in charge of the Olympic Under-23 team with Brian Williams, a former national defender, his assistant and Babwah, team doctor.
Williams is at the helm of the Under-20 unit with former senior national midfielder, Hutson Charles serving as assistant coach and former national goalkeeper Ross Russell the goalkeeper coach.
Corneal, in charge of the Under-17 team which advanced to the Concacaf round of qualifying for the 2007 Under-17 World Cup in South Korea next April, is assisted by Charles and Russell.
The members of the Under-17 team, as revealed earlier this week, have been involved to participate in this year’s Secondary School’s Football League and the conditions of their involvement in the league were also revealed.
The players will undergo monthly physical evaluations focusing on body fat, weight, BEEP testing and resting heart rate, and will continue to train as a unit on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with live-in camps panned this month, December.
There will also be continuous scouting for players involved in the SSFL and specially invited players from Europe, Canada the United States and England.
The players will have the first week of January off and will go to a ten day camp in Brazil during the Carnival break as a further boon to the team’s development ahead of its next outing.
The T&TFF also has plans for the younger footballers with a view of whetting their appetites for the discipline at an early age.
There is also a draft document, prepared by Dr Iva Gloudon of the University of the West Indies, for the development of this country’s women footballers that is up for further review by the Federation’s executive.
Following the cancellation of fixtures Mexico and Colombia earlier this month Warner also presented a letter directly from the office Fifa President Joseph Sepp Blatter in response to Warner’s request for clarification on the issue of releasing players for international duty.
The letter stated: “We would like to inform you that the obligation to release players extends to all clubs, regardless to the league to which they belong. Article 1 of annex 1 of the Fifa regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players imposes this obligation on all clubs.”
Warner noted that this letter along with the original request for clarification would accompany further requests for the participation of this country’s Soca Warriors in international competition.
The letter also noted, “for the sake of completeness,” that October 7 and 11 are official Fifa dates and that “the T&TFF is entitled to seek the release of its players.”
Warner said this was necessary because “I don’t think that we have sufficient locally-based players to be competitive internationally. We have to further develop the youth and our facilities.”
Pending an agreement is reached the T&T national next runs out against Panama in an international friendly carded for the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on October 7 and then again on the 11th against Canada at the same venue.
What is confirmed is the November 15 friendly between T&T and Austria in Vienna.
Also disclosed at the press Former West Indies fast bowler Colin Croft has been appointed Chief Operations Officer of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) 2010 the business/operating plan for which was also presented to the media.
“My understanding of the position is quite simple,” Croft said “I am the link between the T&TFF and the LOC.
“We will do anything in our power to help the youth teams realise their full potential as I expect that they would form the nucleus of the team in four years time.
“I believe we al have to work together,” he continued “and I promise that I will do my best.”
Warner revealed that Croft was the top candidate out of a field of six and that the business plan included plans for the remuneration and bonuses for the senior national footballers for the next four years.

NATIONAL TEAM APPOINTMENTS:

SENIOR TEAM-Wim Rijsbergen (Coach), Jan Van Deisen & Anton Corneal (assistant coaches)

OLYMPIC TEAM-Jan Van Deisen (Coach), Brian Williams (assistant coaches), Terrence Babwah (Doctor)

UNDER-20-Brian Williams (Coach), Hutson Charles (assistant coach), Ross Russell (goalkeeper coach)

UNDER-17-Anton Corneal (Coach), Hutson Charles (assistant coach), Ross Russell (goalkeeper coach).

Middlesbrough 2-1 Chelsea
By Saj Chowdhury
www.bbc.co.uk

Mark Viduka scored a stoppage-time goal to give Middlesbrough a win at the expense of Premiership champions Chelsea at The Riverside.

Viduka picked up Yakubu's pass on the edge of the six-yard area to rifle past Carlo Cudicini.

Andriy Shevchenko scored his first Premiership goal to give Chelsea the lead, poking home Wayne Bridge's cross.

Middlesbrough's Emanuel Pogatetz headed in the equaliser in the second half from Fabio Rochemback's free-kick.

There was just about enough to suggest at The Riverside that Chelsea could find themselves in a pickle on more than one occasion this season.

Gareth Southgate's Middlesbrough came close to showing why that might be the case early in the match.

Gaizka Mendieta, with a low shot, Chris Rigott and Yakubu, with headers, all went close to giving the Teessiders an early and deserved lead.

Jose Mourinho's Blues were handicapped, in relative terms, prior to kick-off when Arjen Robben suffered a calf injury in the warm-up.

New signing Salomon Kalou was brought into the starting XI and looked very lively, although he did come up against a very inexperienced Middlesbrough back four.

The Ivory Coast international came within inches of opening his league account, but failed to get on the end of his fellow compatriot Didier Drogba's cross.

Drogba and his new striking partner Shevchenko appeared to be competing against each other, rather than aiming to forge a solid bond between themselves.

If that was the case, then the Ukrainian came out on top. He opened his account in the Premiership after Boro wasted their three early chances.

The move itself was a peach. Bridge, who had his second successive impressive game, sped down the left and exchanged passes with Michael Essien before rifling in a low cross that Shevchenko got to ahead of Boro's George Boateng.

Shevchenko was very good and a joy to watch. Most of what he did was clever without over-playing and when he did come under a challenge, there were no histrionics.

His best moment was not the goal, but when he raced down the left and delivered a superb ball for Frank Lampard whose tame header rebounded off the post and to safety.

Lampard had been quiet until then and did not have his best game - neither did his fellow midfielders.

They should have killed off the match, but failed to.

That allowed Middlesbrough to rediscover the early belief they had.

The arrival of teenager midfielder Lee Cattermole and striker Mark Viduka appeared to change the game for Southgate's side.

Their endeavour drove their team-mates forward and with 10 minutes left Middlesbrough's efforts were rewarded.

A free-kick from the left edge of the penalty area was whipped in and met brilliantly by Pogatetz.

A draw would have been seen as a victory for Boro, but they wanted more - after all, how many times does a team have the chance to beat the all-conquering Chelsea?

So in the depths of injury time, Viduka made sure he was first to pick up a knee pass from team-mate Yakubu.

He swivelled on a sixpence and sent the home support at The Riverside wild.

PARTY promoter Brent Noel was yesterday sent to jail to do four years hard labour for having a firearm and nine rounds of ammunition.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Avason Quinlan in the Port of Spain Fourth B Magistrates' Court when he appeared before her yesterday for the last time in his trial.

Noel, of Vandeveer Promotion and who has promoted fetes like "Fire on the Beach", was represented by Senior Counsel Gilbert Peterson while attorney and police prosecutor Cpl Anand Ramesar appeared for the State.

Quinlan had already found Noel, 30, from Chafford Court, Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, guilty and Peterson appeared to litigate on his behalf.

Peterson asked for leniency and produced to the court letters from an Angostura official and a senior immigrations officer to demonstrate the good character of Noel, an HIV/AIDS activist.

Noel is charged with possession of the firearm and ammunition on May 27, 2003 at Nelson Street in Port of Spain. He was driving when he was arrested, the court was told in the trial.

PC Timothy of the Mobile Patrol Unit laid the charges.

Three others who were also charged with him have been already discharged.

Peterson told the court flyers for an upcoming event were being distributed when Noel was arrested.

Quinlan handed down her ruling and ordered that the two years for each charge run concurrently. She said she took into consideration it was his first offence.

Gatlin admits failing drugs test

Gatlin shares the world record with Asafa Powell at 9.77 seconds
World and Olympic 100 metres champion Justin Gatlin has admitted failing a drugs test in April.
The American was told the news by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

He said: "I have been informed that after a relay race I ran in Kansas City on 22 April, I tested positive for 'testosterone or its precursors'.

"I cannot account for these results, because I have never knowingly used any banned substance or authorised anyone to administer such a substance to me."

He added: "Since learning of the positive test, I have been doing everything in my power to find out what caused this to happen.

It is simply not consistent with either my character or my confidence in my God-given athletic ability to cheat in any way

Justin Gatlin

"I have been and will continue to cooperate fully with Usada as it moves forward with the process it has initiated and hope that when all the facts are revealed it will be determined that I have done nothing wrong."

Gatlin tested positive for an amphetamine at the 2001 US junior championships at the University of Tennessee.

A subsequent ban was overturned after it was discovered the illegal substances were part of the medication he had been taking for a decade to combat attention deficit disorder.

In his statement on Saturday, Gatlin added: "That experience made me even more vigilant to make certain that I do not come into contact with any banned substance for any reason whatsoever, because any additional anti-doping rule offence could mean a lifetime ban from the sport that I love.

"Since the positive test at the University of Tennessee, I have been involved with efforts to educate people about the dangers of using drugs and would never do anything to disappoint my fans and supporters.

"It is simply not consistent with either my character or my confidence in my God-given athletic ability to cheat in any way."

General Discussion / New lease on life for President's Grounds
« on: July 11, 2006, 12:04:59 AM »

Tuesday, July 11th 2006

The Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDeCOTT) says it will no longer seek to use the land at President's Grounds to extend the Prime Minister's residence in St Ann's. Instead, it will now pursue other options.

In a press release yesterday, UDeCOTT stated that this decision was relayed to a group of representatives from the St Ann's, Cascade and Mt Hololo Community Group at a recent meeting.

UDeCOTT said some of the proposals they had made in trying to reach a resolution in the matter were flatly rejected by the group.

One such proposal was to increase the net area of land currently used for recreational and other uses from under 4.9 acres to 6.1 acres, using both the President's Ground and the Ministry of Community Development site to the north.

UDeCOTT said it also proposed the provision of a football and rugby field (reconfigured north to south), including bleachers for spectators.
