Cricket Anyone / Why mess with a good thing?
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:46:31 AM »
http://www.trinidadexpress.com/sports/David_Williams_named_TTCB_technical_director-158275945.html

Don't know all the ins and outs, but I wonder .."why mess with the success of the TT Senior team thus far?"

If the plan is to harness and develop talent, then why not have D Williams as technical director while he coordinates the youth set up to transition players to the Senior and international teams? A technical director should be on the ground coordinating and developing things to ensure there is a consistent philosophy of coaching, fitness and professionalism throughout the system to ensure smooth transition all the way up to international level. How can that happen while travelling with and preparing the TT team.

The timing is also interesting as it comes right before a big tournament and has only come as D Williams future as a WI head coach appears to have passed.

Ken Williams has had more success than any TT coach thus far and has done well, so I see no real merit in the change.

It will be interesting how the scenario unfolds.....

Lessons to be learned. T&T take note.

I still waiting to hear what else T&T doing about the coup and those who lost their lives.

What is the requirement to be able to play for Combined Campuses & Colleges?
I know Cave Hill is in BDOS, but how come year in year out CCC is loaded with Bajans like a Barbados development XI?

Kantasingh in CCC squad
Published: 2 Jan 2010

T&T’s left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh has been named in a 13-man Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) named for the West Indies First Class season first-round match. CCC to be led by experienced batsman Floyd Reifer will meet in Jamaica from January 8-11. Player/coach Reifer has been named captain and his former Barbados teammate and West Indies pacer Corey Collymore has joined the staff as assistant coach and fast bowling consultant for the team which includes eight Barbadians.

Reifer takes over as captain from the Jamaican Simon Jackson, who led the side last season. Collymore, 32, played most recently for Sussex in the English County Championship. He was a late addition recently to the Barbados trials but has now opted to join the CCC management staff. The Barbadians in the squad include batsman Omar Phillips and off-spinner Ryan Hinds, who both played for West Indies against Bangladesh in July.

Jamaicans Jackson and wicket-keeper/batsman Chadwick Walton, batsman Romel Currency of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Kantasingh and Guyanese pacer Gilford Moore are the only non-Barbadians in the unit. Young batsmen Kjorn Ottley (T&T), Nkrumah Bonner (Jamaica) and Raymon Reifer (Barbados) are not in the squad in spite of stroking hundreds in a CCC trial fixture that ended on Tuesday. With a record of four wins, four draws and four losses for 60 points, CCC finished joint fifth—with Barbados—in the 2009 WICB Regional 4-Day Championship standings behind runaway winners Jamaica (106), the Windward Islands (79), Leeward Islands (77) and T&T (70).

Football / Football star homeless

Football star homeless
By Anika Gumbs-Sandiford (T&T Guardian)

Forgotten T&T national women’s striker Natalie des Vignes is homeless. The talented 33-year-old heroine graced the front pages of international newspapers in 2000, when she scored the equaliser against Costa Rica during the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football World Cup qualifier. Despite her determination to put T&T on the map, she has nowhere to call home. Her excellence led her to be awarded the 2000 National Women’s League Player of the Year Award for scoring the most goals. Six years later, she won the National Women’s Most Valuable Player Award. Nicknamed “Vignes” on the field by her teammates, she copped 15 trophies and several certificates in a career that ended three years ago, because of financial constraints. It was a decision the expectant mother, who has two other children, wished she never had to make.

Forced to live in a two-bedroom apartment with seven other relatives on Ramsaran Street in San Fernando, des Vignes is disappointed over the treatment meted out to her. The disgruntled woman is also saddened by not being alloted a home by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), although she applied more than ten years ago. “I am very, very disappointed. Imagine! I took so many kicks and cuffs for my country and I cannot get a house. Many like me have flown the national flag of T&T proudly and personally. "Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it. When you go abroad you are considered the underdogs, and normally have to play twice as hard to get recognition for our country. “We are happy to fly the T&T flag, but it must not be forgotten what we did for our country,” des Vignes said.

Reminiscing on her career, the most touching event for her was when she played with Petrotrin Sports Club against Jane Republic. Des Vignes scored three amazing goals to secure victory for her team. “Each time you represent your country, you go with intentions of winning. Whether it is a trophy, money or a medal, your aim is to win for your country. “No matter what role you play, once you are representing your country you have an important role and should be acknowledged. “I applied for a United States visa to go to my aunt’s funeral, and I was prevented from going. “Why? Why must I be treated this way? I am a Trinidadian, and I represented my country proudly. All I am asking is a home for the children and I honestly think I earned the respect to be treated better than a dog.”

How many times must this kinda story repeat itself?

Kelis Says Nas Has Cut Her Off Without A Penny
Posted Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:58pm PDT by Andy Pemberton in Musictoob

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month.

According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said.

Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies.

Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.

Nas has not yet responded
