Football / Why Liverpool will WIN!!
« on: May 21, 2007, 09:30:20 PM »
Here is an excerpt from an interview in which former Liverpool Captain Phil Thompson gives his reasons for Liverpool defeating AC Milan.

Do you think Steven Gerrard will get the chance to lift the European Cup again? Will it happen against Milan?

I know it will happen. People have got carried away over AC Milan because of their performance against Manchester United. Let's put this in perspective. They are a million miles behind Inter and have not had a good season in their league. They beat United by playing very well at home. That happens in football. They are more or less the same side as in 2005 but they're not as good as they were two years ago, they don't have the same strikeforce and they are two years older. We are a far better equipped team to win this time than we were back then. Last time we had to drag the game from the abyss but this time we are much better and more capable of winning.

I AGREE

Is Kaka the main danger and how confident are you we can stop him?

When you have had your fingers burnt before then you don't put your hand back in the fire. In the first half in Istanbul we didn't look after Kaka and you saw the consequences and the way he ran the game. The introduction of Didi Hamann at half time changed everything. A holding midfield player can be so important, especially in these games. Kaka has to be stopped and we have the players to do that in Mascherano or Sissoko. I think he'll play Mascherano but I also think Sissoko would be ideal for this game because he has legs and can get around the pitch. That's only my opinion. I think Rafa will go for Mascherano and Alonso in the middle because Xabi is more defensive minded than Gerrard.

Will this be another thrilling final?

I think it could be a great final. I think it will be 2-2 and we will win on penalties. People keep saying we can't keep winning on penalties, but why not? We are Liverpool FC, we are different and that's why we can do it again.

General Discussion / US mothers deserve $134,121 in salary
« on: May 03, 2006, 08:11:52 AM »
NEW YORK (Reuters) - A full-time stay-at-home mother would earn $134,121 a year if paid for all her work, an amount similar to a top U.S. ad executive, a marketing director or a judge, according to a study released Wednesday.

A mother who works outside the home would earn an extra $85,876 annually on top of her actual wages for the work she does at home, according to the study by Waltham, Massachusetts-based compensation experts Salary.com.

To reach the projected pay figures, the survey calculated the earning power of the 10 jobs respondents said most closely comprise a mother's role -- housekeeper, day-care teacher, cook, computer operator, laundry machine operator, janitor, facilities manager, van driver, chief executive and psychologist.
"You can't put a dollar value on it. It's worth a lot more," said Kristen Krauss, 35, as she hurriedly packed her four children, all aged under 8, into a minivan in New York while searching frantically for her keys. "Just look at me."

Employed mothers reported spending on average 44 hours a week at their outside job and 49.8 hours at their home job, while the stay-at-home mother worked 91.6 hours a week, it showed.

An estimated 5.6 million women in the United States are stay-at-home mothers with children under age 15, according to the most recent U.S.     Census Bureau data.

NOT 'JUST A MOM'

"It's good to acknowledge the job that's being done, and that it's not that these women are settling for 'just a mom,"' said Bill Coleman, senior vice president of compensation at Salary.com. "They are actually doing an awful lot."

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, some 26 million women with children under age 18 work in the nation's paid labor force.

Both employed and stay-at-home mothers said the lowest-paying job of housekeeper was their most common role, with employed mothers working 7.2 hours a week as housekeeper and stay-at-home mothers working 22.1 hours in that role.

"Every husband I've ever spoken to said, 'I'm keeping my job. You keep yours.' It's a tough one," said Gillian Forrest, 39, a stay-at-home mother of 22-month-old Alex in New York. "I don't know if you could put a dollar amount on it but it would be nice to get something."

To compile its study, Salary.com surveyed about 400 mothers online over the last two months.

Salary.com offers a Web site (http://www.mom.salary.com) where mothers can calculate what they could be paid, based on how many children they have, where they live and other factors. The site will produce a printable document that looks like a paycheck, Coleman said.

"It's obviously not negotiable," he said.

On average, the mother who works outside the house earns a base pay of $62,798 for a 40-hour at-home work week and $23,078 in overtime; a stay-at-home mother earned a base pay of $45,697 and $88,424 in overtime, it said.In a Salary.com study conducted last year, stay-at-home mothers earned $131,471. The potential earnings of mothers who work outside the home was not calculated in the previous study.

Sorry not to be sexist..but I could HIRE  a Nanny/Babysitter for 20grand and she go do d same job...dat is outrageous... Ah wonder then how much a TRINI MUM WORTH..considering she dont have all these extravagants that a SO CALLED U.S MUM has..

General Discussion / Couple, 33 and 104, Reportedly Marry
« on: May 02, 2006, 11:06:19 AM »
Tue May 2, 8:11 AM ET Reuters

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - A 33-year-old man in northern Malaysia has married a 104-year-old woman, saying mutual respect and friendship had turned to love, a news report said Tuesday.

It was Muhamad Noor Che Musa's first marriage and his wife's 21st, according to The Star newspaper which cited a report in the Malay-language Harian Metro tabloid.

Muhamad, an ex-army serviceman said he found peace and a sense of belonging after meeting Wook Kundor, whom he said he initially sympathized with because she was childless, old and alone, the report said.

"I am not after her money, as she is poor," Muhamad reportedly said. "Before meeting Wook, I never stayed in one place for long."

He said he hoped to help his new bride to master Roman script while she taught him Islamic religious knowledge.

The report did not say if any of Wook's previous 20 husbands are still alive.

Malaysian Muslim men are allowed by their religion to take up to four wives at a time, but reports of women who marry more than once are rare. Muslim women do not practice polygamy.

Malaysia's 26 million population comprises about 60 percent Muslims, almost all ethnic Malays. Large ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities are Buddhists, Hindus or Christians.

Well yes...when yuh think yuh hear everything... ;D

I do believe that there is a need for a players association. I also strongly believe that the WICB has been controlled and continues to be operated like FIFA. I am not quite sure if WIPA under D.Ramnarine have been acted in the best interest of the players. What do you think of his approach thus far as WIPA President?

Football / T&TFF makes request for 10,101 World Cup tickets.
« on: January 06, 2006, 02:30:00 AM »
T&TFF makes request for 10,101 World Cup tickets.
By: Nigel Simon, Corey Connelly (Guardian).
[/size]

The T&T Football Federation has officially put in a request for eight per cent of the tickets available for the three matches involving the Soca Warriors at the World Cup finals which comes off in Germany from June 9 to July 9. This was confirmed by Oliver Camps, president of the T&TFF and its special advisor Austin Jack Warner, yesterday.
Asked how many tickets were requested, Warner said the Federation had asked for the maximum eight per cent. Pressed to give an exact figure, Warner noted that this will not be known until a reply from FIFA was received.
Guardian checks reveal that should FIFA allocate the full quota of tickets to T&T based on the Purchasable Ticket Capacity (PTC) of the venues, the T&TFF could find itself with a total of 10,101 tickets for the three matches.
On that basis, T&T will receive 4,061 tickets for the match against Sweden on June 10 at the Westfalen Stadion in Dortmund which has a PTC of 50,768 spectators.
For the next two matches, the tickets decrease to 3,074 for the June 15 game against England at the Franken Stadion, Nuremberg which has a PTC of 38,437 while 2,966 tickets is available for the match versus Paraguay on June 20 at the Fritz Walter Stadion in Kaiserslautern which has a PTC of 37,084 spectators.
Asked what will happen when the tickets reach the T&TFF and how they will be be sold, Camps said the TTFF must wait and see what was the exact allocation.
“Our next step will be to determine a format on how we will be selling the tickets to the general public because at the moment we know for sure that the demand for tickets will surpass the supply,” stated Camps.
Warner had revealed on Wednesday that there were 8,000 requests for tickets.

Tickets for all three categories.

WHILE he was unable to ask for more than the alloted eight per cent of tickets, Camps noted that they had also made application for three categrories of tickets that were available from four for the Group B matches. The three categories carry prices of 100, 60 and 45 Euros or TT $758.97, TT $455. 38 and TT $341.47 per match.

Open sales.

World Cup tickets allocated to the T&TFF will be made available to the entire population of T&T to purchase.
This was the view of both Camps and Warner when asked who will have first preference to the purchase of the tickets.
Warner said when the tickets are given to the T&TFF, anyone who applied will get tickets. “How many at this point in time, we can’t say,” he said.
“But, I will tell you that Simpaul’s will get tickets as everybody else and the tickets that Simpaul’s will get will be made public and can be justified. But, nothing so far has been allocated to Simpaul’s or anybody else.”
Questions had been earlier raised when Simpaul’s Travel Service began advertising packages, inclusive of tickets, in the daily newspapers as it was felt that the company had infact earned the right to be the sole sellers of tickets for T&T group matches.
However Warner has since made it known that the tickets that were being advertised and sold by Simpaul’s were purchased through an European tour operator long before the Soca Warriors had even qualified for Germany. “What they (tour operator) have done is to give Simpaul’s the right to use the title of exclusive tour operator.”

Football / FIFA & its Credibility of Matches.
« on: December 19, 2005, 11:47:33 PM »
To the network administrators of this site, please be kind enough and allow me the opportunity to keep this as its own thread.

I want to first make reference to the Liverpool vs Sao Paulo game.  Several posters are of the impression that Liverpool are sore losers. I am not a sore loser, neither is my team.  Not in the least, rather I am deeply disappointed.  Why? Because being a supporter of football I went to the game to see 2 teams teams play to the best of there ability and provide a dream FINAL.  What I received as both a fan and consumer of the sport was a total mockery of what football stands for.

I want to state first and foremost, that here was a game that was decided even before the tournament began? Even after the game you saw some Sao Paulo supporters looking at us Liverpool fans and not in the least convinced that there team had won the game.  I am not in anyway saying that Sao Paulo supporters were not happy because for the majority of them, they were in Euphoria.

I will not take the easy way out and contemplate Conspiracy theories as to why teams win or lose especially in major tournaments.  However, I would suggest you also consider these examples.  With regret I am not in anyway attempting to undermine the achievements of the team involved during FIFA World Cup 2002 South Korea vs Spain and South Korea vs Italy matches.  In these 2 matches, South Korea came out victorious.  Kudos to them for winning those games with the help of poor decisions as well.  Whether they were instructions given by FIFA to the referee or the referees own, you be the judge.

What I say to this is that FIFA is not acting in the best interest of football and FOOTBALL will suffer.  FIFA is there own enemy and it’s a shame because not only footballers and clubs are having problems with them but they want to put there hands in everything almost as if they are above the law. As they say FIFA has sponsors to satisfy and while MONEY talks, bullshit walks.

I hope for many of you that make the trek to Germany, remember that we are fans of football first and we want to see our team win or lose with dignity because if we had defeated Bahrain with any discrepancies be it a penalty or offside goal, our victory would not have been as sweet.

Football / Ah really THINK we have Learnt from NOv 19th 1989
« on: November 08, 2005, 02:51:57 AM »
Here is my 2 cents...

1.I dont see Bennie man taking dem fellas to Forest Reserve and then placing dem in a BREADVAN to come to d National Stadium....Imagine dat pressure in hotsun, traffic jam on Wrightson Road and sreaming fans from 1989.

2.We definately have more experience in this team...you have fellas like Yorke who has had to deal with butterflies in d champions league,FA CUP,CARLING CUP,TOYOTA CUP et al (he was there Nov19th..I dont forget how dat boy cry,he not going to lose this rounds)

3Stern bring Birmingham from Division playoff Penalty Kick ShootOut to d Preimier League.

4Number 10...playing in Portugal for Porto, then bringing Hibs to 1st division, then playing for Rangers, tonnes of European experience and getting promoted with Falkirk..he was there too Nov19th...he not going to lose EITHER)

5Shaka Hislop-Bring Reading from d playoffs to Division 1...we go dis Newcastle, but he is a playoff expert..dat man real bailout West Ham & Portsmouth...he know what it is to play a 2 legged match better than any of d team I think.

6Dog...ah have a felling that God really with he...I dont know what it is but only he knows...not to mention the Spirit that man have....dont frighthen Bahrain go convert to Catholism when he finish with them...

7D coach(ah mean D maestro)..dat man is a boss...he know how to fix d jigsaw...He has been there more times than all d soca warriors put together...Ah forget to mention is that he also coached Saudi Arabia, so is not like he dont know about Middle East teams...he must be know more about Bahrain than d Bahrain coach know..

8Ah feel we alot more organized than Nov 19th from Public Relations,Organization and Accountability...You get a feeling that there is alot more professionalism going on and D Belief....

9.I dont for 1 think that D team is taking Bahrain Lightly....

10.We have been to a Junior World Cup and we have hosted a Junior World Cup. The Administration must have learnt a little over d years...

Fatigue factor worries Peruzovic
7 November 2005
by FIFAworldcup.com

After guiding Bahrain through their Asian Zone play-off against Uzbekistan, coach Luka Peruzovic is now just one step away from making history with the Gulf state.
Only Trinidad and Tobago, their final play-off opponents on 12 and 16 November, stand between Bahrain and a first FIFA World Cup™ finals appearance, although the 53-year-old Belgian is under no illusions about the size of the task facing his team against the fourth-placed CONCACAF side, who defeated Mexico in their final qualifying match. Before flying to Caribbean, Peruzovic discussed the challenge ahead in an exclusive interview with FIFAworldcup.com.

FIFAworldcup.com: Do you have any warms-up or friendlies planned after you arrive in Trinidad and Tobago on 7 November?
Luka Peruzovic: No, we don't. We have less than a week there before the first leg and the timing is too tight. It is a long and tiring flight from West Asia to the Caribbean so it will be wise to save our energy. We need to adapt to the new environment and conditions as quickly as possible and the best way is with light training sessions that will ensure the players are in top condition.

How did you prepare the group before departing for the Caribbean? I started preparing the team from 19 October, but without our overseas-based players, who are based in Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. These players could only join the team on Sunday (6 November) after their club games on Saturday.

So these key players have not had much time training with the rest of the team? Sure. What I did was call up a 25-man squad consisting entirely of home-based players and this gave me the chance to look at some new players.

Are there any new players we should look out for?
It might be too early to tell and I think you will know more after these games.

What would it mean to take Bahrain to their first FIFA World Cup finals?
No coach can deny the glory of reaching the FIFA World Cup finals. It would be a historical moment for Bahrain football. Even advancing to this decisive play-off with Trinidad and Tobago marks a giant step forward for Bahrain but we need to work even harder now to make history.

T&T look a formidable side with former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke leading the attack and former Real Madrid and Netherlands coach Leo Beenhakker pulling the strings. Have you seen much of them?
I've watched some video tapes and to be honest, they are a good team. They have some highly skilful players and their European-based stars are very experienced. But I believe we have a chance as long as we play to our potential.

You had home advantage in the second leg against Uzbekistan last month and the same applies against T&T. Is this going to play a big part? Not really. We have to take long flights back and forth while our opponents only need to do that once. We will have to struggle against possible tiredness and play two matches in the space of five days. This requires more physical energy and we have to work hard to keep up our fitness.

Last month you beat Panama, another CONCACAF side, 5-0 in a friendly. How much confidence has this given the team ahead of the upcoming play-off?I was happy to see the team scoring a lot of goals and that victory undoubtedly boosted the players' morale but Panama only sent an under-strength team and we also fielded fringe players. You can't take friendly results too seriously. The play-off will be extremely hard as all the players will be giving everything.

Is your key striker Alaa Hubail fit enough to start this time?
Hubail was out injured for over six months so I sent him on for just the last ten minutes in both matches against Uzbekistan. I'll see how he got on for his club in Qatar but he is certainly one of the best finishers in the team and hopefully he will be fit to play and strengthen our attack.

Allyuh men want HEARTBREAK more than November D 19th then allyuh stick to D 4th place talk.  If yuh happy to settle for 4th place then yuh go soon realize that if you have been watching and attending Asian Cup games dat Concacaf is not of the same standard of d Asian teams now.  Dem Asian teams have work ethic like religion.  We need 9 points.  We have to play more rough and dirty like d Jamaicans.  That includes breaking leg, arm, limb, kick in shins…Ah want all of that…I want finger pokes in man eyes….To gain 9 points, you have to be tactical…I see Uruguay do that against France in Korea.  Wonder boy Henry get send off in d game….Me ent want to see no Boss goal tomorrow, I want a win….even if is a penalty dive.

Football / All ALLYUH TRINI IS JOKERS.

My fellow Trinbagonians、please listen and think before you vent.  Think constructively about how you talk about OUR National SocaWarriors football team.  Why is it that people are only with the team when they win and against the team when they lose.  This is part of Trinidad mentality that I HATE.  Either stick with the team or don’t support them.  You have to give Beenieman the benefit of the doubt. What would you prefer a Trinidadian team winning the Goal Cup and overexerting themselves or a fresh team ready for the World Cup Campaign.   As far as I am concerned, I am extremely happy that we were given 3 competitive games before next month for World Cup Qualifiers.  Beenieman is taking the right approach.  Don’t expect short term success…think long term. Let me give you an example. Do you recall in 1989 for the Shell Caribbean Cup, we played a lot of games and we defeated Grenada in the Final 2-1. Dwight Yorke scoring a boss free kick. After that success we became a bit complacent.  These losses in the Gold Cup are going to motivate these players for the Qualifiers.  The more the other hex teams stay in the Gold Cup, the better for us not only to save energy but to assess them tactically.  A few positive notes

1 We have learnt more about Guatemala (they can definitely be beaten)
2 Be wary about Panama.(they can defeat us if we are not on our game-the Valdes brothers are very experienced campaigners)
3 Beenie has been able to experiment with the team in a professional tournament.
