The Columbus Crew and FC Dallas completed a deal Tuesday that sends Trinidad & Tobago international forward Cornell Glen to Columbus in exchange for the Crew's natural second-round pick in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft and a 2005 Youth International slot. Glen will be classified as a Senior International. To make room for Glen on their roster, the Crew waived veteran forward Dante Washington.
"We are excited about the addition of Cornell Glen," said Columbus Crew head coach Greg Andrulis. "Cornell is one of the rising young stars in the CONCACAF region. He is a dynamic forward who can change a game. We look forward to having another quality forward on the team."
A native of Port of Spain, Trinidad, Glen joins his third MLS team since coming to MLS for the 2004 season. Last year he was a member of the MetroStars and saw action in 18 games for the club, scoring six goals and adding two assists. He was then shipped to FC Dallas in exchange for the 12th overall pick of the 2005 SuperDraft, which the Metros used to select 18-year-old defender Tim Ward. Glen never made an appearance for FC Dallas in league play.
Prior to joining the MetroStars, Glen played professionally in his native land with San Juan Jabloteh. He has also appeared for the Trinidad & Tobago national team, scoring many goals for his country.
The release of Washington ends the 34-year-old's third stint with the Crew. In nine MLS seasons Washington accumulated 52 goals and 29 assists in 161 games played, including 111 as a starter. He also scored five goals and added one assist in postseason play.
"I want to thank Dante for his tremendous professionalism and commitment to the Columbus Crew," said Andrulis. "He is a first class individual who has had a positive effect on our team and our community."

Football / sealy's role on kansas city widards
« on: March 17, 2005, 09:08:45 PM »
This season, if things take shape as anticipated, the Wizards plan on a more varied attack involving more possession, more skill, and even more speed. The offseason additions of draftees Scott Sealy and Ryan Pore, both forwards, will provide more variance at the sharp end of the attack, but it's the return of Klein from injury and the draft-day acquisition of wide midfielder Sasha Victorine from the Los Angeles Galaxy that will make the plan possible.

CENTER FORWARD (1) - Cornell Glen, Eddie Johnson Bobby Rhine -- "Up top, when he is here, we have Eddie. Unfortunately, Cornell has been injured for the most part of his stay with us in Spain. « on: March 17, 2005, 01:31:29 PM »
Kenwyne Jones could be set for an extended stay at the Britannia Stadium after his successful loan spell from Southampton.

The young striker's initial month's loan comes to an end after this weekend's Champioship clash at Wolves.

After scoring his second goal in his sixth game of his first month's loan, manager Tony Pulis has confirmed the Premiership club are now being approached with a view to keeping Jones at City for the remainder of the campaign.

He says: "Our Director of Football, John Rudge, is talking to Southampton with a view to Kenwyne remaining on loan, hopefully until the end of the season."

Football / Essien goin man u
« on: March 16, 2005, 11:37:25 AM »
The Lyon powerhouse has been attracting admiring glances from most of Europe's top clubs and helped the French champions storm into the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League when thrashing Werder Bremen over two legs.
Essien, who had a trial with United as a youngster, is being forwarded as a possible long-term replacement for Red Devils skipper Roy Keane.
"I know that [the press reports regarding interest from Premiership clubs], " he said
"But, for me, I don't think about that because I have left everything for my manager [agent].
"So I don't think about it and just concentrate on my football.
"I like Manchester. I know most of their players and like them, and would like to play one day in the Premier League.
"I'll be happy to play for Manchester but, at the moment, I'm in Lyon and I have to concentrate on that.
"I like Old Trafford because it's one of the nicest stadiums in Europe and, foremost, I like the coach [Sir Alex Ferguson] very well."
