Football / Re: Copa America Thread
« on: Yesterday at 02:17:31 PM »
We're not in a bad place for 2026. I had faith in Angus, but when I seen the substitution for Andre, I knew that would be trouble. Andre is a good battler. He knows how to identify and break up the situations that cause goals.

We were in the game even up until the 80th minute. I sensed that Canada was about to concede.

Angus tried his best. If I was Angus, my wishlist would include:

Another CB (at least MLS level)
Another CDM (at least MLS level)
Another CAM (at least MLS level)
Maybe a left or right back

I was pleased by the play of Shannon Gomez and Andre Raymond. Andre Raymond has good football intelligence. He's in 4th division Portugal. Either he need a new agent or that team must be paying him big. I think he's perfect for an MLS team.

Remember where we were last year around this time. We weren't supposed to get this far. When I seen the competition in the Nations League, I did not think we would make it out of the group. Especially after the Gold cup performance.

Angus is there for another 2 years. If he is to be replaced, who other than Hart do we have in mind? I seen an interview with Hart. He's not coaching now. I'm sure the lines of communication are open.

2026 we coming

He hadda change the style to a more attacking one now or at least a set up that is more fluid for transition from defence to attack. Either a 4-2-3-1 or 3-4-3.
You identified the exact positions I was thinking we need support.

CB - Leland Archer/Luke Singh.
CDM - Not sure who it have out dey.
CAM - the very talented DJ Buffonge has a Trini passport now. 18 year old Ty Barnett at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Danny Imray RB at Crystal Palace. Deron Payne in Netherlands at Volendam FC.
And the 20 year old Justin Obikwu CF at Grimsby on loan from Coventry. Also 20 year old Antwoine Hackford is a centre forward at Sheffield United.

Either way Eve needs to change things up cause we cyah get rid of him now with his contact till December 2025 and we don't have the finances to appoint someone now.

Danny Imray (RB or RWB) @ Crystal Palace U21 scored a double vs Ty Barnett's (AM) Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 tonight.. Both are supposedly eligible for us.

I spoke to Josh Chatee and he said he's  been "trying" to get a passport while now. All I can interpret that to mean is that he's more than likely a grandchild of a trini. Not sure if the above two have the same issue.

However in the Premier League, if a team wants to recruit a player who's not a regular for a national team in the top FIFA rankings, the club needs to go before the Home Office and or Premier League board and prove that the only reason that he can't get in his national team on a regular basis is because of the abundance of talent in that team and said player is on the fringes.

My point is can't the TTFA and the government have a similar understanding or working?
For instance, the TTFA goes to the government and shows how a player they've identified who isn't a direct descendant and is over 18 but who can be a long term tangible and intangible asset to the team and country.

Ty Barnett, the 18 year old attacking midfielder at Wolverhampton was promoted to the senior team and was on the bench for the last 2 games versus Chelsea and Brentford.

Thanks for taking the time to enlighten us who don't know Thomo.

Ent Cardines already in the fold at youth level, but I never hear bout the other two.

Maybe Eve already have them on his radar and we just don't know...or maybe the next coach will bring all of them home to at least have a look at them before Copa America and WC Qualifying starts :)
The only problem(s) I see with recruiting them is TnT's constitution that says they have to be direct descendants of parents born in TnT but it it's their grandparents heritage they're using, then they have to have had a TNT passport before their 18th birthday.
Or maybe eve & ttfa doesn't think we need them.
Another issue might be our FA's ineptitude and dunceness.
Their is also Jlloyd Samuel's son who's son is at Man City. I hope and pray they've at least contacted him and encouraged him to get a TNT passport but I won't hold my breath 😩😩

Seems as though he's playing for the U-21s right now?

I don't think we'll draft in any players for that one game in March, unless we find someone who is ripping at whatever position they play.
People like this Hackford kid will (hopefully) be on the new coach's radar for World Cup qualifying, if he's better than players we already have i.e.

He plays in the Premier League 2, Premier League Development League and Premier League Cup and Premier League International Cup/League. It's under 21, games week in week out. It's like a professional development feeder league for those on the fringes of the senior team.
Ty Barnett, Danny Imray and even Rio Cardines plays in it.
I watched a game with Ty Barnett and he was outstanding. He's an attacking midfielder scoring regularly. Danny imray the right back scored last week too.
I really hope Eve is making an effort to recruit them or similar players at least just to widen the pool!

The training harder  and the games are  physical and intense in Jamaica but skill level the same. This would prepare him better for europe

He needs to hire a personal trainer and nutritionist. If not, all the info is available online.

Antwoine Hackford is looking good for Sheffield Utd u21. We hadda bring him in.
Daniel Phillip eh get a good run out with us yet but he seems a competent midfielder. Was he injured or something? Didn't notice him in the squad news

Actually criminal that Eve and co ent call up this guy. He's even played for the first team a couple times.
We simply cannot produce the types of players to complete in concacaf in a timely fashion. We have to make use of the opportunity of recruiting foreign born players. How some can't see that is beyond me. 🤦🏾‍♂️

gawd on pitch

I believe what you're referring to the is TnT's laws and rules granting of citizenship by heritage/parents. Our constitution states that children of nationals born abroad are allowed citizenship (ie a passport) as direct descendants ie parents. So if yuh parents born in TnT you can be granted citizenship, it stops after that. Countries like Jamaica they have the grandparents rule, so you can be granted citizenship via yuh grandparents even if yuh mum or dad born abroad.
However a nice lil caveat in our constitution that can be exploited is if the child who's parent and grandfather was born abroad applies for citizenship before the age of 18.
Yes the direct citizenship via grandparents gives others a leg up over us but be can be smart and look up, approach and see how we can pursue these players before the turn 18 and plan for the future. If Eve and the powers that be at the ttfa ent doing that, dey more stupid than I think.
Hope that makes sense and I ent mix it up too much.

That doe or die attitude is easily demolished by another team's fitness and tactical superiority.
We're up against a USA team whose players are in mid season in the top 5 leagues across Europe, whilst our players are predominantly in the TTPFL off season.
We need to adopt the approach of Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana who trawl the world for the best players that can potentially represent them and crucially make the first approach.

Well done to the fellas. Still not too convinced that defending deep, soaking up pressure, then counterattack to tire the opponent and bring on fresh attacking players to score with a limited player pool is the way forward.

There's Antoine Hackford at Sheffield United, Ty Barnett at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Darius Lewis at Botafogo who need to be brought into the fold.

And I must congratulate Neveal on a game well played. I pong him for being overweight and useless in previous comments but he make mih eat mih words in dat game. Fella put in a shift and  ah half.

Thomo is ah man after my own heart on this!! I was laughing hard, hard, hard :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I wanna add Mr. Bateau -- who cannot make a decent 7 yard pass to foot, or to lead the person he's passing to -- to your list!!

IMFO, Hackshaw is the main reason why Eve doesn't deserve to be the coach...for glaringly obvious friggin reasons.
I dunno how he gets a look in everytime. I could be wrong but he never looks fit.
Plus he's too slow but hey that's just me.

Seems like molino has called it quits ...
Good call by him. He has to look after his future and with all those injuries he can't be playing too much for TNT. He has to manage his body differently now. Joevin, Bateau and Moses need to go now but we all know donkey, Eve will pick them instead of approaching the young lads in UK who can bring more to the team.
The number 10 spot belongs to Molik Khan now I say. Shaping up to be a complete midfielder from the highlights of his recent games.

Eve claims to have been working behind the scenes and nothing shows as nothing has changed. He picked the same useless people. Not one new face. You telling me Darius Lewis at Botafogo, Antwoine Hackford at Sheffield both said "1. nah I good 2. I not ready yet 3. let me get right with my club 4. my passport expired or I don't have one".
But he pick useless Kareem Moses, Joevin, slow big belly Neveal & paper knee Molino still.

Watch Real Gill fellas. Boss player.

Time to phase off on Marvin Phillip, Joevin and Adrian Foncette, them fellas to old. And Hackshaw to slow for today's game, not a bad player thou.

We have Gold Cup, Caribbean Cup, WC and Copa America to play for. Doh blow it Eve.

Believe in de youths.
Nobody could convince me that's how Hackshaw is built. He's definitely overweight!

Eve needs to shut up about foreign born players and the rule that narrows our pool. It's not as if he's gonna pick them anyway. He's still chatting bs about developing players locally when the league is dead and he's got a competition in 2 months.

Is angus scouting in the diaspora ?
Let's be honest here. Eve will NEVER scout in the diaspora. He will NEVER make an approach to any player, they have to approach.
Just in England there is Dion Pereira, Jacob Bedeau and Ryan Innis. He moans about lack of a number 9 but there's Daniel Carr in Ireland who can't get a look in  but that's ok so he can play with a false 9 and/or use Levi up top.
Joke ting!

Eve will never pick players like Luke Singh, Ryan Ince, Dion Perreira, Rory McKenzie or Malcolm Shaw. He's also never going to pursue any potential players who haven't reached out, he's never going to try to convince them it's worthwhile to play for TNT. He always moaned about local players just as good enough as foreign born or those playing outside TNT. He already said he only picked players he worked with before.
He also followers a Bertille St. Clair philosophy where fitness, determination and will trump skill. Marry that with the former and you'll see what he's on about and the results will be. He'll stick with this squad and try get through this group. And if he does progress his ego will not allow him to pick any better players to press on. We will get shown up sooner rather than later.

She called time on her international career in defence of her friend and teammate Maylee. It sends the wrong impression if Jones goes to her. It has to be the other way around, she needs to make the approach to him and maybe they can forge a professional relationship moving forward. Plus the coach is in charge, he has to make decisions based on the group rather than an individual.
Plus these two have a history of falling out with management and administrators, from Carolina to DJW now Jones. They may have genuine issues but if leaves a bitter taste if you're always the constant in these disputes.
I know they gave blood, sweat, tears over the years but I simply can't side with them in this.
Jones must stand firm!

I was hesitant at first but I paid and it's a good stream.
Levi is clearly head and shoulders above the rest of players. Built like a proper athlete. I can see why AEK took a chance on his lil bro Judah too. He's having a decent game. Telfer the usual workhorse and so is fortune. Could do with seeing Hackshaw and Archer in the 2nd half.
Need a better partner in the centre of defence for Aubrey. Moses ain't cutting it, too many misplaced passes.
Could say more but it's definitely a work in progress and a good place to start.
What I'm not happy about is that we weren't even offered a squad list ie starting lineups.
Disgusting oversight imo.

Like  many players there comes a time when yuh shelf life  reaches an expiry date-  Its not that the players were not valued but I think the game and the direction is changing.

To be perpetually  keep on recycling players and hoping for success  is the manifestation of a deeper issue  that being the lack of adequate player development or national programs  to feed  into our national teams.

If you look at the men's friendly- you saw evidence of players whose better days are behind them and  in games like this when the stakes are low why not expose younger players to garner  valuable experience?

In the matches thus far, I would  surmise that the impact of these two did not change the games outcome significantly nor do I see  the omission of them moving forward as detrimental to future success.
Thanks for the years of service but we need a revamp.
💯💯

Not sure what's gone on here but in the last 2 games Maylee was absolutely useless. She's been great but at this point she won't be missed on the pitch.

Define or refine that.

In a game on a team that was poor but had some good indivual glimpses and touches she was non existent. She's spent force.

It's possible to get. It might be easier if one of the parents gets a TT passport first.

Do you personally know of anyone who get a passport without having at least one Trini-born parent? Is T&T so anything could happen, but according to the law, one of the parents must be born in T&T.

Yes I do. In fact she played for TT in the u17 world cup. Her grandfather did not give up his TT citizenship when he became a Canadian citizen. Her father was born in Canada. I can't remember the full story. I believe the family moved back to TT when the father was a toddler. Then they returned to Canada when he was 9 or 10. He does have a TT passport. And his daughter played for TT u17 world cup.

Was it Rose Bahadursingh, Diarra Simmons, Nykosi Simmons, or Emma Abdul?
Andre Gray at Watford got his Jamaican passport via his grandad even though he had died.

Those criticising the tactics and comparing it to the back to back draws when SH was in charge are clueless about football.
We were coming up against a team that would have scouted us; lots of our players were unattached, lots in lower leagues; short of vital match fitness, and fatigued after the games vs FG Montserrat compared to Mexico.
He surprised them with his tactics, formation and personnel. You could see them trying to deliberately breakdown our right back Jones. Again the either saw him as a weak link based on their scouting or their strong side. We defended and they couldn't beat us to high balls over the top, we were taller than them, they play their balls on the pitch and try to break the lines. They couldn't get through the lines as if was so congested so the tried to pull it back and have a shot but MP was brilliant.
I was surprised in the 2nd half that they didn't try anything different and then Eve hit them by bringing in fresher legs and changed the system again to hit them on the counterattack. It almost worked too but Moore lost his composure.
Then guys executed the game plan brilliantly and played with pride and heart.
Big up allyuh self fellas. Well done!

Tactical masterclass by Eve. He knew they would have scouted his team so changed formation and personnel. Mainly defenders in the 1st half with 5 at the back. Mexico saw RB Jones as a weak link (or their left as a strength) and targeted him but he stood firm. The offensive subs and team structure in the 2nd half made sense too.
Must give Eve props here. Did proper homework!
