Piss poor defending and weak coaching by Joe Public, but they looked a lot better in midfield than usual. How come the Japanese guy doesn't start on this team? I really don't get the subs either but I really liked that they were more assured going forward. Too little too late

In my opinion Andre Toussaint has always been a good player and a player that could help the team. However I think he needs to work harder at defending and tracking back. His touch is sublime, he has quick feet,  great passer, good vision and can link up with other players well. Another issue is his position, if he can play midfield and put in the work it would help his value. Although playing further up the pitch may suit him with his club team I feel he better off as a midfielder(if only he would run more!)

only de greats make it back ... Jordan, Ali, Diego, Lance armstrong, hasley crawford gene samuel, now who or what is he ?

Jai press brakes...Diego's comeback doesn't compare to the greatness of Ronaldo's comeback....Yuh forget that when Ronaldo played in WC 2002 (and top scored....scoring more goals than anyone had scored in a World Cup since 1974.... ahem ).... he was coming off 2 operations and and 2 and a half years....yes 2 and a half years of zero competitive football (unless you want to count 7 minutes of action where he re-injured himself)....

...You want to talk come backs? ....please. Ronaldo is the definition of comeback.

The best football player to have ever played the game- Ronaldo.  The only out and out goal scorer with the individual brilliance of a creative player....

Ronaldo doh need to comeback again to be great.... Unless yuh memory real short and yuh prone to gettin' caught up in the "fat man" hype...the man is a legend as is.

Now I couldn't have said it any better :applause: ...I really couldnt

I can't believe that people could still fight down Ronaldo. The man is a legend...A healthy Ronaldo is the best forward ever. The funny thing is that even with all the operations and comebacks I still expect him to perform. I hope he can find somewhere to play his football up until he is ready to leave the game.

nobody eh fighting down Ronaldo but doh get carried away here ....go and look at some Pele videos then come back and repeat what you just write dey ! ..while you are at it try to get some George Best and di stefano and puskas tapes ...
dais ah sweeping statement you make dere ..I eh supportin you on dat !
I not knocking Pele and those aforementioned players but you tell me some Great defenders from Pele and Di Stefano time...I mean come on? Analyze the game on a whole. It faster, more physical, technical and tactical and guess what Ronaldo conquered all that. If anything can be said about Pele and dem fellas is that they helped shape the game and they deserve respect for that but in MY opinion Ronaldo is the best because he play in a harder era. Players like Pele would be almost normal now..Compare Ronaldo(Healthy) with any other forward in any aspect of striking...Finishing the best...Speed the best...Running off the ball the best...linking up with Midfielders the best...Dribbling at pace the best...Only heading he is not the best

Football / Maradona is a Coach Now?!

Maradona New Coach Of Argentina
Football legend Diego Armando Maradona has been appointed as the new coach of the Argentina national team.
Maradona had been in a four-way tussle with Carlos Bianchi, Miguel Angel Russo and Sergio Batista to take over from Alfio Basile, who resigned a fortnight ago after a World Cup qualifying defeat to Chile.

Earlier this evening there was speculation that Maradona may win the race and now it has been confirmed that El Pibe d'Oro has indeed been appointed as the new national team coach of Argentina.

Although many expected one of the three other candidates to be his assistant, the responsibility will be given to Carlos Bilardo, who coached Argentina when Maradona guided them to the 1986 World Cup.
"We just had a meeting, we are happy about what was said for the Argentine national team," stated Maradona.

Although AFA president Julio Grondona has yet to announce it to the press, reports suggest that the official presentation will take place on Thursday the 30th of October, when Maradona turns 48 years old.

"I can't open the present yet, we have to wait because we have to continue to talk," the 1986 World Cup winner affirmed in declarations to radio La Red.

Maradona also stated that he will be the only person in charge to select who plays for the national team: "I will choose the team, I will be the only one to do so. Of course I will be listening to Carlos (Bilardo) in everything, because you can't avoid listening to a man who knows so much," he added.

"I think the project will be exactly how Julio (Grondona) would like it, in what I want, and in what Carlos wants," added Maradona.

When asked who his coaching team will consist of, he said: "I still have to choose my right hand. I have to talk to Checho (Batista) and with Tata Brown. Afterwards we will decide with Carlos."

The former coach of Deportivo Mandiyu and Racing Club also stated that he will take the players who play in the local Argentine competition into consideration: "We have been talking about this, the directors know this very well. When the national team needs it, the directors have to put on the Argentina shirt. With that base we will do well."

Maradona admitted that he has to put a "winning mentality" into the heads of all Argentine players, those who ply their trade in the domestic Argentine competition, as well as those in Europe.

Grondona called Maradona on Tuesday, after "El Diez" arrived from Tiflis, Georgia, and soon he notified him that he would replace Alfio Basile as the new coach of Argentina. Maradona will sign a contract that will expire after the end of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, of course with an option for an extension, depending on his performance.

Frico,
I agree with about having more clout than anybody. That has been so for years. That is nothing new. But has it benefitted us? Why is our football so inconsistent. Why are our teams lacking proper skills. Why are hosting  tournament if we don't have the money. Look, Jack is the superstar for football administartors. That is fine but when come to adminstrating our local football. IS TOTAL CRAP!!!!!
The answer to all your questions is : MONEY     Jack Warner is a business man and what he cares about is making money...we usually 'benefit' from his money making ventures...Its messed up but its true..if Jack is not gaining financially we have nothing to get as a federation...The TTFF need some progressive brains that would enforce the right infrastructure to build good teams and not yes men who jump everytime Jack advise them.....and to answer the question of the intitial thread I would say Jack Warner bring World Class coaches to our senior team...thats it

From the very start, I thought Maturana knows what he is doing and now I still think so. I see men have a lot of bad reviews about Andre Toussaint but in my personal opinion I think he is a decent player and deserves to be on the team. If is one thing that I could say negative about him is that he should work harder on the defensive part of his game. Anyhow Maturana is a breath of fresh air in T&T football. I have seen so many experiences of nepotism and favouritism hindering our football. Those two factors alone account for the loss of so many of our local talent. Talented players never make it !!! in Trinidad football big boys usually rule. Foreign based is always better, Dont come training they starting, not performing and somebody doing better, they still starting etc etc...By not recalling players like Stern and leaving out Birchall and Roberts he is setting a precident. He doesnt care where you play or who you play for , if the player doesnt fit in to the team he is building, he is not going to be called up. Supporters could get vex and say all kinda ting and that is what I admire...So far the younger local players have done well in my book, they eager to play and play well...USA is a tough one but I figure we could steal the points....Go T&T

This is what we need....results such as these go a long way in boosting our confidence not only as Trinidadians and Tobagonians, but as Caribbean people in general. After another Caribbean 'robot' Usain Bolt destroyed the Olympics in track and field...we have yet again a positive performance where our 6th place team took out MLS 2nd place squad. Now, I have heard basically every excuse, every comment possible, however as a professional team in any sport, you just dont loose 4 nill unless you are totally outplayed. This and this alone was the case for the Revs in the 2 leg series, THEY WERE OUTPLAYED!! Whether it be injuries, fatigue, disinterest etc..etc...blah blah blah...let us be proud of this accomplishment...let us hold our heads high, for too long the world has taken us to lightly. All we ever needed was a confidence boost...and thats what joe public went into the game with...the confidence knowing that they was going to defeat the revs...I wish them all the best and will be following their progress....GREAT JOB!!!!
:applause: Daz all I saying....Great Victory...6-1 on aggregate!!! good licks ...the better squad win

I made an ass out of myself for expressing my opinion? Daz why I dont be on this site again. Up to now I didnt try to insult your character...whatever yes 6-1 is the score...that is good licks... :rotfl: ...You are not right in MY opinion I am not right in yours. Simple as that. No reason to try to be a fool hoss. It doesnt matter that the team is struggling...Thats an excuse. We could make the excuse that PFL teams doesnt have the best facilities to train a team that could compete against bigger teams like NE and so on. A million dollar organisation make the decision to hire a coach that would make the best possible decisions, choose the best team and use the right tactics...all to get the best results....Therefore the NE coach knows what he had available to him if his starters are out..Thats his decision to keep good replacements in his team...So citing injuries as an excuse is crap in my book. Now as I said before a Million dollar organisation(who obviously know a thing or two about decison making because to be able to fund a team)  appoint this man...The man who own it all...NE also own the Patriots(probably the best NFL team in the last 5-10 years)...Therefore he should know about choosing the right man for the job/ right ?
Also ...the same foreigners(on JP) playing in a league(PFL) where more 'local' teams on top of them(Jab, W, Pet)...Therefore they competing with the locals every week. Competition is not a way to gauge anything? I would think it is. So you cant make the argument that a PFL team(with a foreign influence) competing against Trini players( and being gauged every week against them!!! and 5th in that league) beating MLS team 6-1 is not a good way to measure the strength and talent of locals.
and your last point...When it had a all English finals ...all the press was doing it...who the f are you to say I shouldnt do it? steupssss

and you know what...sorry if I was mistaken about you posting US progresses...If I am wrong I retract my statement. No need to get on like an ass because someone dont agree with you. You seem educated but dont act like a pompous fool. I try to educate myself too(against alot of odds also)...ok.. Bless :beermug: :beermug: :beermug:

Deeks, I doesnt mind a man point out short comings but men does dismiss anything local completely and that is wrong. That is what I dont like. The Local game could improve fellas and I personally think it is. I know is not the best league but as a Trinibagonian supporter I HAVE an obligation to support it and look for the positives in our football and in our leagues. Fighting it down alone will reap no rewards

Deeks

I stand corrected now that my blood has cooled down from the win, its the excitment

from what i saw really NE didn't look like a side with energy, really tired, that being said i still didn't see any player who i wish to have on say my national side
its like no one from NE showed up for the game, clearly MLS could do with some talent,

I guess that is why becks is there just to add that little sparkle, cause as is apart from possible superior fitness, the league is somewhat dull, chivas tries to bring the mexican influence but more is needed to bring the US MLS to life maybe some saudi will buy a team and throw say like 1 billion behind players lol

U still think we do have local and regional talent that can box with the best of em in MLS any day

  :applause:

I think if PFL teams used to get a few thousand supporters every week and better coaches  it woulda be very exciting and we would have seen some even better players and teams coming out of the league. Intercol football has been so exciting over the years because of the support. Imagine if PFL teams got good coaches and good support. Trinidad football would have been leaps and bounds from where it is right now....and teams would have been playing good attractive 'trini' football...Go T&T !!!

Why do people need counselling?

It was a thorough victory (6-1 agg). What is wrong with enjoying that?

Secondly, after all the talk about who is or isn't on the national team, they still went and mash-up Cuba away. Still nobody wants to give credit. We will see some more against Guatemala and the US, but so far they have done well except for Bermuda.

Why do people not want to give the local players some credit? It is inherently difficult to get contracts abroad, especially being from a country that is not a powerhouse. Games like this actually make a big impact and help players get contracts. Ask Cornell Glenn.

All that's fine and good but JP isn't comprised of strictly local players... in fact the two players with arguably the greatest impact on the game are Trini and Brazilian.  How then can this even possibly be used as any guage on the talents of the local players?  I'm all for giving local players credit... but giving local players credit for THIS win (and last week's) is simply off mark.

dat was a good game. richardson get on bad. dis game jus solidify d fact even more, that MLS shitty an d pro league improvin.

bless!

Let's not get carried away now... even in MLS right now NE is struggling.  Fatigue and injuries are taking their toll regardless of who want to look at that as 'excuses' or not.  JP was the better team in both legs... but it's silly to try and use this series as a bellwether on the comparative strengths of both leagues.
Are you serious? Trinidad and Tobago, the PFL and the players should in no way be modest about this victory. Joe Public is a Trinidadian team although it comprises of different nationalities. When Manchester and Chelsea reach Champions League Finals(stars(drogba and ronaldo) on both teams are NOT English) people talk about the strength of the EPL so why the hell people cant talk about the improving PFL. The core of the Joe Public team is Trinidadian. The service to Richardson was Trinidadian. All that aside Richardson is a boss player and the Guyanese should be dam proud...the man is a boss. Bake n Shark is one of the people I see does constantly be posting articles about US progresses in the game. Nothing wrong with that, USA has been improving and deserve respect in the Football world. However, he does never acknowledge that T&T have decent local players that could stand toe to toe with Americans given the right training and so on. Up to this day USA has never produced a World Class player. They have a very solid team of Good players but nobody is World Class. T&T do that in Latapy and Yorke.
MLS is much better funded and supported than the PFL. We talking about men in MLS making millions and hundreds of thousands of dollars to play football and cant even beat a team that 5th or 6th in their league with players making a small money for the year. and the aggregate score was not even close 6-1 and the one goal come from a penalty. Regardless of injuries and fatigue 6-1 !!! New England on the top of the east coast also....I mean come on...the PFL is improving and if it had proper funding, support and incentives for players...who knows....just imagine W Connection beat Chivas9who at the time was in the top 20 teams(i think) in the World) albeit they lose the return(Mexico is very hard to play in)...and just imagine men still on this site crying down the local players and league.....PFL beating people...T&T will beat people...Respect them

Football / Re: Stern slams Maturana's management.
« on: August 25, 2008, 06:36:29 AM »
I just want to say first Football is a confidence sport. Well obviously dropping Stern John in such a manner is NOT professional. That being said I don't see why all the fuss about he being dropped. The coach at that point in time didnt think he would be required. All teams need transition and continuity. Berris after Stern retire we screwed basically? In your opinion we should continue playing him and neglect anyone with the potential of replacing him?  ::)  You even call Maturana a shit hound coach because of what happen against Bermuda(Stern was there....Why he didnt score goals that would put us in a comfortable position for the second game?)  and Experimenting with youth. I totally disagree with that sentiment. 1) We got past Bermuda(which probably is no big deal in the grand scheme of things but to the youth that was there and made it possible, they got confidence from that I'm sure) 2) Trinidad and Tobago had the oldest team in the World Cup 2006..we need youth...The youth need to be on the team winning caps because in order for them to get a contract abroad where they can ultimately improve themselves therefore they need to play.
Back to the Stern John issue. I have heard from National players that Stern is sometimes very arrogant on the field especially toward younger inexperienced players. Now he score alot of goals but probably Maturana does not want him to have that influence on the younger ones just yet. Football is a confidence sport and if the younger players have to have confidence broken down by ONE player, that ONE player should sit it out, at least for now. I mean bawling at a man is part of the game sometimes and players have to deal with it but I think Maturana doesnt think his youth is ready for such abuse right now. Trinidad and Tobago players usually cant take a man bawling at them. It totally throws off their game in most cases.
My prediction is Stern John will be back in the fold very soon when he is needed. He has always been a clutch player who can decide a game with his goals. What he has to do is continue scoring for his club, work harder and be ready to help T&T when we need him. Its unfortunate TTFF and the coaching staff went about doing things the way they did but I have a strong feeling its just a matter of time .....Go T&T

I always play better away from home.

hmmm...this real hit meh. doh like to hear pros talk like that. i wonder what kind of psychological prep they get before these games. how many other players freeze up at home. this is WC qualifying..yuh home performances have to be spot on..so hopefully he get over it and produe de goods on home soil too.

Well done though..that was a big won on the road.
Well with fans like on this site and in Trinidad I dont blame him. It have men that does just bring down these guys every chance they get. Critizism is necessary but when men not addressing the issue that stagnating our football is not the players but rather the coaches. We as supporters have to understand that these fellas sacrifice alot to continue to play football when in Trinidad and Tobago there is little incentive to do so. For a big belly drunk, who either never reach far in football or never kick a lime in his life to come and fight down a man trying hard for his country and his entire league just downright unfair. If Manchester United or Brazilian National team training was available to local players  believe me they would been most present BUT currently we have none of the sort at no level especially at youth the most fundamental stage. So far the coach have my support as well as the team....Hopefully they would grow stronger as they progress and peak at the right time....Go T&T
