Also I can't believe they pick Pooran over Barath who was actually in decent form.

Red Steel need to pick alot more local players and make good buys for CPL next year. The idiots that pick Guillen over Lewis need to stay far away from the selection process.

Yeah hard for me to believe we didn't give Barath a chance. Pooran did very little and was overrated largely based on that 1 game in the Caribbean Premier League. Barath is a more complete batsman and would have had a pretty good strike rate as well. I think we also need to look at where our next strike bowler is coming from. Rampaul and Narine are very good but we really need 1 more quality bowler to complete our bowling attack.

Other issues at the Nou Camp, like badly needing at least one legit CB
I count 3 legit CB in Pique, Puyol and Mascherano (yes Mascherano!). They need depth especially if Puyol continues to be oft-injured but I'm not too concerned in general.

I know you saw how both of them (PP twins) got left out not only vs Bayern but many other clubs last season, they both just don't have the same speed to keep up with speedy attackers anymore (and I am a big Puyol fan).  I rate Macherano as well, but as a CB his judgement is off quite a few times, as a DM very solid.  If you don't think the defense is porous no biggie, I tend to think it is and PP's best days are behind them...
Defense being porous is more than about the CBs IMO. It's more about lack of covering from the midfielders when Alba and Alves go bombing forward - Xavi, Sergio, Iniesta not recovering as they needed. Also, I think they didn't do as good a good squeezing the opponent without the ball as previous years. Not saying PP is the best duo in the world but I think certainly servicable.

Complete crap that Madrid sold Ozil.

And 100 million for Bale???! You've got to be kidding.
Yep. I think Ozil > Bale straight up. Perez doing crap again. Barca men like me smiling.

Great article. We may have world-class talent but definitely not world-class work ethic. And until we see more people get that work ethic, we will continue to see flashes but never sustained brilliance. The amount of hard work and discipline put in by consistent performers like Ato, Bovell and Yorke is one of the main reasons for sustained success.

Saw this video last week and it was on point too:
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/GEAr47diBfk" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="bbc_link bbc_flash_disabled new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/GEAr47diBfk</a>

6
So there were 2 Gordons? Should have gone with Lendore instead of Lalonde
Lendore was sore apparently.

7
From 1st look, it looked like Lalonde ran a brutally bad 2nd leg which put us from 3rd into 6th from which we couldn't recover.

8
Wow did Jehue look good there. 48.10 eassyyyy

Okagbare is the biggest threat to SAFP since 2008, because her biggest strength is SAFP's biggest weakness. Don't bet your house on SAFP

I'm still not sure of Bravo's tactics as captain - he performed very well individually finally but I am beginning to think KP is a better captain tactically. Our batting seems to be hitting our straps at the the right time so hopefully we win the next 2 and get into the semis.

11
George is amazing yes - on an elite level for 10+ years now not to mention converting from a world-class 200IM specialist to a world-class sprint specialist, recovering from injuries and pushing through. That amount of longevity requires real dedication, discipline and passion - one of T&T's best athletes ever.

Football / Re: My ratings vs Mexico.
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:28:11 PM »
A word on Roberts, I'd actually give him a strong 8 because he did a selfless job out of position and put in a great shift.

For a man who is a forward being asked to fill in at right wing, then switch over to left wing he did very well. He was holding up the ball, keeping possession and being very effective on the defensive side. Even saw him track back well to put in a blade on the Mexican right winger when the left back get leave out. He was giving Aubrey David plenty help on his side and he wasn't losing it when he get it. Great shift.

Yeah i agree with an 8 for Roberts. Also Keon Daniel should be rated higher. The problem is that the ratings are biased towards attacking play. Even Cyrus getting coudos because he was very attacking.
Stephen Hart: “ I thought in the first half we did quite well and created some very good opportunities. The Mexican keeper made a big save off Andre Boucard. But the second half we could have been more calm and better on the ball and attack with a little more variety.

Our full-backs were way too cautious in second half and I could not get them to go forward.”

I'm no coach but it look to me that Keon Daniel had specific instructions to try and nullify the threat of Mexico's most dangerous player #8 Montes.  He was all over Montes whole game and if indeed those were instructions, then his contribution in this match was excellent IMO as Montes didn't have the same kind of impact he usually does.  Watch Mexico and you'll realize most of their offensive plays go through Montes.

I may have been too harsh on him. He did a solid job defensively and maybe that's what he was assigned to do.

21.Jan-Michael Williams - 9 - Finally looked confident and made some key stops.

6.Daneil Cyrus - 8 - Used his speed and size very very well. Showed some promise coming forward but didn't get to display it that much.

32.Radanfah Abu Bakr - 7 - Has some movement limitations as a CB but was very solid. Can be a commanding presence bac there.

20.Seon Power - 7 - Made some key tackles.

25.Aubrey David  - 6 - Showed some composure. Sometimes out of position. Did ok trying to venture forward. Looking tired by the end.

12.Darryl Roberts - 7 - My opinion is we could upgrade this position with someone more dynamic but you cannot fault his work ethic.

19.Keon Daniel - 5 - He's a fighter and works but I am not that impressed with his performance. Sometimes shows composure on the ball and can be good at dead-ball but his lack of pace and strength combined with his inability to complete incisive passes in the counter-attack really let us down. Molino looked much much better imo.

14.Andre Boucaud - 8 - Very impressed with his compsure, work rate, control, shooting etc.

11.Carlos Edwards - 6 - Worked hard but not his best game. Impact sub may be his best

9. Kenwyne Jones - 8 - Won almost every ball in the air. Didn't create a goal out of nothing/half-nothing as we were hoping but really proved he can trouble CONCACAF defenses immensely which his physical presence and skills.

13. Cornell Glen - 7 - Still have speed and now has a lot of wily moves. Really combined well with Kenwyne. We should be looking far and wide for a replacement for Glen. Size + speed combo up top will worry defenses.

Lakers will be fine... as long as they fire Mike Brown.

Mike Brown on Nash running same pick-and-roll offense he did in PHX. "They won a lot of games. It was fun to watch. Where were they in May?"

Umm... Mike Brown, Phoenix's offense wasn't the problem... Where's your ring anyway?

Swima..clear someting up for mih

What kinda injury did that guy have that would make him drop the 100, but still have the strength and intensity to even qualify for another olympics....and still kick ass in the prelims and semis?
I believe his knee injury forced him to drop the 200IM (and subsequently all IMs). He got injured in 2005 I believe playing paintball.

Regarding his peaking late - not unexpected after his car accident delayed his training before the Olympics. It's a shame because without the car accident injury, he'd have had plenty of time to train and peak in the Olympics. But as Swima said, it's short course (25m pool) so it's hard to extrapolate the times.

That's a good debate to have. I may give a slight edge to Jehue based on experience but we don't quite know Cedenio's ceiling yet so it'll be interesting to see what they choose.

These are the splits:

GORDON L
INTERM.   MARK      RK     SPLIT   SPLIT RANK
400m           44.97      1     44.9               1

SOLOMON J
INTERM.   MARK          RK   SPLIT      SPLIT RANK
800m           1:29.77   1   44.8        3

ALLEYNE-FORTE A
INTERM.   MARK          RK   SPLIT       SPLIT RANK
1200m   2:15.89   3   46.12         6

LENDORE D
INTERM.   MARK          RK   SPLIT       SPLIT RANK
1600m   3:00.38   2   44.49         2

Pretty strong splits. Probably Alleyne-Forte to be replaced by Jehue. Lalonde will probably be able to give us more in the final as well. I hoping they can shave a little over a second off the NR in the final.

FYI for those of you who read into odds, most betting sites have us as 3rd favorites behind the USA and Bahamas and very close To Great Britain with about 12:1 odds - definitely viewed as a strong medal contender.

Whaat is GB's PB and SB for this event?  Best of luck tomorrow

His pb is 21.20 he is the fourth fastest swimmer in history for the 50m freestyle. Not sure what his sb is but I suspect it is the 21.77

Thanks DHW, hopefully he can do some damage tomorrow
His 21.20 was with the full body suit when they were legal (now banned). I'm hoping he goes 21.40 or lower to win a medal. He had 2 great starts so far and faded a little down the stretch. Hoping he can sustain his speed and finish strong tomorrow to end up on that podium.

Thanks...was worried for a bit.  It is his 3rd olympics and maybe he needs to save his energy
Yep. Actually it's his 4th Olympics (he was in Sydney as well). He probably doesn't want to expend too much energy and effort into the 100m free where he's not a contender. The 50m field is very tough so he'll likely have to go hard in the heats and semis to make the finals. The good thing is that he has a full 24 hours after the semis till the finals if he makes it that far.

Cricket Anyone / Re: Darren Ganga
« on: January 24, 2012, 10:15:07 AM »
To all the Ganga fans out there I wonder after the results of ramdin , how do you rate his captaincy, Was Ganga all people made him out to be ir did he take the praise for other's hardwork. Facts will show at the t20 level his own individual performance has been poor. My take is that T&T always had a well drilled team that anyone in the starting eleven can captain the team with huge success. Ganga made his reputation by riding on the hardwork of his teammates. Our victory has nothing to do with the captaincy of our team but because of the team unity .
I'd say Ganga helped set the stage for a revival of Trinidad cricket. T&T cricket was in a mess before his captaincy. Him and others like Omar Khan deserve a lot of credit. Ganga's fingerprints are still on this team. Ramdin and the team did an excellent job though.

Playoff football will be back for the 49ers this year. Interesting to see how far Alex Smith and that defense will take them.

The running game will have a thing to say as well.
True talk. And the coaching finally up to mark for the niners too.

Interesting to watch the 'Suck for Luck' sweepstakes as well.

Was looking to see if there was a thread on this already but didn't find any in the search results.

Some thoughts:
  • Packers looking like a serious threat to go 19-0 but somehow I feel the Saints will ketch them in the playoffs.
  • Playoff football will be back for the 49ers this year. Interesting to see how far Alex Smith and that defense will take them.
  • Eagles dream team looking like a nightmare. Giants and Cowboys battling it out for that NFC East
  • AFC looking a little open. My Pats defense looking like garbage but I hoping they at least give Brady a chance in the playoffs

On a related note, anybody know if they does block the Sunday NFL games on CBS and FOX on Flow cable if you don't have the package? Last time I went home I remember some was blocked. I heading home for the Christmas so wondering if anybody know what the deal is.
