Football / Re: Warner gets sponsorship for U-20’s parents
« on: September 22, 2009, 06:32:23 PM »
Brownsugar,
The WC in germany was a precedent. That is the ultimate single sporting event. All kinds of demands were asked of the Gov't. The Gov't give them a million for not winning a game or scoring a goal. That is a precedent too. Which other gov't will do that. You like Jack and am sure you will vote for him. But he is playing both side of the game. The gov't is giving their fair share, and you know that.  But it is not the gov't job to send parents everytime a team qualify for a WC. The gov't job is to make sure the get their passports in order and in time(ha!!!!!).

What if every TT sports team qualify for world championships. I guess it is TT govt should take the tab?

I would like to see the gov't upgrade and MAINTAIN all the sports facilities(not only football). Assist in the development sports programs for all sports. Woman sports should get more resources to bring them on par with the region sports powers. That should be their main focus. Anything else is secondary.

Deeks, I would like to point out that these two are the highlight of this thread for a couple reasons.

1. You said that JW is playing both sides, and you are absolutely right. Somewhere else on one of these posts, someone asked why doesn't the private sector come forward and assist the families.
 - the private sector did come forward. It just so happened that the private sector was JW.
 - JW is a shrewd businessman of questionable ethics, and we all know that JW is going to get value for his investment ... and it just so happens, that value is coming from the political points he will rack up from this PR stunt.

So should we expect anything less?

2. Your second post brings up the stadia. These stadia aren't even 10 years old, but the wear and tear on them makes them look a few decades old. However, you're asking the present administration to upkeep stadia ... but they're busy building The Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, which is a stone's throw away from The Mannie Ramjohn stadium. With all the money that has been wasted in Tarouba, with no completion date as per the MoS - The Hon. Gary Hunte - where do you think that money would have been better utilized?

You's ah UNC flunkie... Jack could fart and you'll call it "aroma".  Conversely nutten the government do could ever please you... you constantly up Hunt as like ah tight jockey shorts, so doh even come with that "never please Trinis" talk.

Bake n Shark - It would have been slightly more insulting to call me a CoP flunkie. There'll always be a next time though.
But, tell me what exactly the government does that pleases you?
You're good with words, so enlighten us/ me.

On a slightly bothering note, I'd be wary of your penchant for harping on verbal volleys that revolve around derierre references.

No wonder Jack does stick it to us - so Peter have to pay for Paul, and Paul have to pay for all.

It time Trinis separate emotion from proper decision making.

Emotion:

Oh gwad dey could atleast go and watch de little children play ball. Show dey support fuh dem an ting.

Reality

What if every sport start inviting de Prime Minister and President. Do we know if a formal invite was sent. What is the presedence for this?

Gary Hunte set the precedent for formal invitations.
172 tickets to the El Salvador game, and nobody get one yet.
The excuse/ response - a few days late and laughably weak. typical. (Maybe he needed bookmarks for the stationary in Radical Designs)

The American baseball team doesn't play in the World Series. The World Series is contested only between American club teams (an a couple Canadian). But this weekend, Obama found time to play golf away from Capitol Hill, and he's juggling that with Healthcare Reform, Mediating a Mideast Crisis, and prepping for the G20 Summit. I would count that as important things ... not a Republic Day PNM Dinner.

But since you brought it up ... what exactly are the more important things Manning has to do?
AND ... if he's doing things - how effective are they?
Please list them, I don't know since I'm an alledged UNC apologist .... which brings me to ...

This is absolutely hilarious. Somehow this synopsis of the government hit a chord with you, and leads you to infer that I am UNC because I object to the level of crass stupidity in the government.

How you so sure I am not NJAC, NAR, COP, TUTTA, a member of the Judiciary, La Brea resident protesting the smelter, Lavantille resident protesting for water? Not even a UNC Ramjack G or Keith Rowley pardna?
Just a straight up UNC apologist?

What was it that sold me out? ... must have been the code.

Where in the frickin world is the Government ever EXPECTED to pay for family to be flown and housed for a sporting event??

There is a thing called precedent - ... and while family members of the 2006 Soca Warriors may not have been housed and flown to Germany on a Government Charter - many, many public servants and waggonists who contributed less to the cause of the Soca Warriors, were flown and housed on the tax-payers dollars in 2006.

Was that the right thing to do then, and are you upset about that?
... and if you're not upset about that, why are you fussing about this sporting event, over that sporting event?

Yuh could never please Trinis.

When the squad had returned from Mexico and was in quarrantine, then had to travel home afterwards, the TTFF was wrong.

Now when travel get sponsored to have the players parents travel to support them at a World Cup - jealousy take over and people sour.

Ah sure if it was government giving out free ride to a bunch of nepotistically-appointed public servant despots to wine, fete and dine on tax-payer dollars at a World Cup (a la Germany), they wouldve rejoiced and sang praises like if they just get a house from HDC.

The moral of the story: Injury time is up to the discretion of the referee.. A discretion which is suspiciously swayed in the favor of Man United at Old Trafford far too often for my liking.

That was also Joke of The Day ... didn't you see AF hamming it up with the 4th official? Very chummy indeed. Maybe Fergie let him in on what was the wine of the day in the officials dressing room.

Too bad MH wasn't let in on that intimate moment - but then again, maybe he was the butt of the joke.

Let the ManUre fans revel in their false glory - fate has a way of catching up - because diving, cheating and intimidation can only get you so far. Just ask them how was Rome.

According to a media release issued Saturday, the TTFF has secured support, from several sources, to ensure that at least one relative from each member of the national Under-20 team will witness this country's First Round games ... The media release continued, the TT Government turned down several appeals to assist the parents ....

Ent allyuh call for support from the private sector? .... well this is what Private Sector input does look like.

Who willing to give JW a round of applause?

However, to date, six members of the team have not received theirs, despite assurances from the Sports Company (of Trinidad and Tobago) to have the promise fulfilled completely...

So when they going to get it? ... after the tournament?

how in the world he didn't give jermaine defoe a yellow card following his combined grab-by-the-neck take down of Michael Essien and crunching two-footed dive-in tackle on Drogba is beyond me.

If the ref said he didn't see it, does the FA then intervene during the week - a la Adebayor, and slap Defoe with a suspension?

That was a blown call... Assou-Koto intentionally extended his hand upwards and over his head... not sure what he was thinking to be honest.

That said, Webb missed a clear penalty when Carvalho tripped Keane from behind and he went down negating a scoring opportunity.

I was waiting on the whistle. Very surprised he didn't call that.
A few more like that, and I wouldn't be surprised if you start hearing echoes similar to those at ManU, saying that visiting teams can't get PKs at Stamford Bridge.

The things is, not even Chelsea can get a PK awarded at home.

The final whistle is blown by the referee.

90:00+5:28 GOAL - Michael Owen:
Man Utd 4 - 3 Man City Michael Owen gets on the score sheet with a goal from deep inside the penalty box to the bottom right corner of the goal. Man Utd 4-3 Man City.

4 mins of ET indicated by the ref, so why was the game still being played at +5:28?

Not one of you lot/ blokes can honestly back the 6 minutes of added on ET that was allowed AFTER the ref signalled 4 mins. Had it been City with the winner, you would be cursing the ref at all ends.

Last season all that diving, cheating and intimidation ended up in the sweetest cutarse in Rome past May.

He missed some obvious calls against both teams, the most obvious one being the hand ball against Spurs that wasn't called.

Chow, check this. There were some very marginal calls - especially in the Chelsea penalty box, that had it been called as a penalty - not even the most biased of supporters could have argued against it.

But was that handball a make-up call, and if so, it would be ridiculous.

The thing is, the call was made. A corner was given - so the referee had to admit to himself that there was a deflection by the Spurs man.
If the referee is saying that it was a deflection but not a handball - he is plain lying.
If the referee says that it was an inadvertant handball, that is also pure BS, because the defender purposefully put him hand up in the air to strike the ball.

The referee cannot pardon himself in this situation.

3-0 in dey pweffen!

big team could win on dey own accord - dey doh need refs to give them extra time on top of the extra time.

Ref in Chelsea game could justify 8 mins of ET - afterall, he indicated and played the 8 mins.
Ref in Man U game cannot justify the 4 mins of ET that he allow to run to 6/7.

Interesting next couple days in EPL/ FA offices.

I hope it have no English Refs in the World Cup.

Any time a ref gives additional extra time in a match like this, it is giving extra incentive to the favored HOME team not the away team.. especially at a place like Old Trafford.

Rubbish!! Both teams are from Manchester and as a result are practically at home, that is why its called a Derby!

... but United isn't technically located in Manchester. Is like calling Jabloteh vs Joe Public a derby - San Juan & Arouca is two different place.

If United are deem to have broken the rules then by all means they should get sanctioned. What I will like to know is when will Fifa and that loser Sepp cast an eye to the African youths who are being exploited and exported by 'agents' with the promise of a better life? When is Fifa going to do something about that? Are they not as important?

Agreed.
Don't forget to add in Brasilian.

Serious question though .... when these African kids (most likely the ones that are talented, but destitute) get exploited by the agents, it is wrong - BUT are they better off having to struggle outside of Africa, versus struggling on the continent?

Manchester United facing Chelsea-style transfer ban over kids

Manchester United face the renewed prospect of a one-year transfer ban after their attempts to sign teenagers Paul Pogba and Alberto Massacci were referred to FIFA following the refusal of the Italy and France Football Associations to release transfer documents allowing the moves.
And Le Harve, Pogba’s former club, expect FIFA to investigate and repeat the transfer ban they imposed on Chelsea for inducing Gael Kakuta, 16, to breach a contract with Lens and sign for the youth academy.
Eye of the storm: Paul Pogba
Le Havre managing director Alain Belsoeur said: ‘The French FA did not deliver the clearance certificate to Manchester United and the English FA, who have turned to FIFA to appeal.
FIFA have to examine the case and we have supplied written answers to their questions regarding the contractual relationship between the player and the club.
‘The Pogba case is very, very similar to the case of Kakuta and I can think of no reason why FIFA’s final decision will be dissimilar.’
Le Havre president Jean-Pierre Louvel, urged to ‘put up or shut up’ by United chief executive David Gill, said: ‘We’ll launch an attack on United, seek sanctions and demand the same ban FIFA gave Chelsea in the transfer market.’
News of the FIFA probe comes a week after Gill’s attack on Le Harve, who have backed down on their allegations that United paid Pogba’s parents, a claim which was denied by Gill.
United threatened legal action when they heard Le Havre had made allegations of inducements and insist they have made no illicit payments, saying they have acted within the rules.
Italian club Empoli have also withheld transfer clearance for Alberto Massacci’s move to United.
However, their case is not as strong because 16-year-olds are not recognised as workers in Italy so they cannot sign a contract.
Empoli director Giuseppe Vitale said: ‘It’s true, we’re trying to block Massacci from playing for United. We are withholding the relevant documents.
‘Why should we hand over his registration after the way United have behaved? I understand Fiorentina are doing the same over Michele Fornasier.’
United spokesman Phil Townsend denied that they had done anything wrong.
‘It is up to FIFA to decide over the question of a contract but we are confident Pogba wasn’t contracted to Le Havre,’ he said. ‘We have acted within the legislation.'

1. Why is it Fergie sounding like he wants the whole of ManUre to fatwa Tevez?
1 a. Isn't Fergie inciting the fans in a similar manner to what Adebayor did vs Arsenal last week?
1 b. Shouldn't that then lead to the 6 game suspension that SM was talking about?

2. Isn't there only one EPL team in Manchester?
2 b. Unconfirmed reports have Manchester United as existing OUTSIDE the boundaries that constitute Manchester. Eg. It's like when you on a flight in and out of Trini - you does always hear you landing in POS, but you really landing closer to Arima.

3. Vidic said that ManUre is the best team in Europe. I think he forgot the epic beatdown they got at the hands of Barca.
3 b. He also said they're the best team in England ... defending champions yes, yet they're looking up at another team up the table.

4. If City is so small, why are ManUre management, players and fans so bitterly obsessed with City? I sense a tinge of jealousy.
