The most maligned and hated caribbean sportsman in the history of the caribbean is multiple world record holder Brian Lara. And it is well documented who leads the charge there. Need I say more?

Jamaicans love Lara more than we....is dem who give him land dey...he not even Jamaican!

And yes, I know he get house and land from T&T eh.

My point is de Jakans love him too.

He get bad mout from some yes, jes like in T&T!

Jamaicans love too much blasted passa passa...

Quote
Bolt, winner of the 100m and 200m in world-record times, had been bashed for his showboating during the 100m final when he dropped his hand and beat his chest while nearing the finish.

Now he was 'bashed'... only people bashing Bolt is de ignorant racists on blogs and in chat rooms.  The Jamaican press like they deliberately blowing this out of proportion to fire up Jamaican people... who just eating up de chain up normal normal.

Another thing... president of the JOA come out in Rogge's defense talking about he was "misunderstood"... but Ato whose criticism was even milder (and more sensible) getting crucified.

Allyuh Jamaicans is kicks yes.

You guilty of the same thing u condemning. The man didn't say he was misunderstood. He said "he feels" he was misunderstood. Big difference.

Split estimates:

Recorded the action from TV so I could catch-up with the action. Couple of angles, some estimates:

Nesta Carter 10.35
Michael Frater 9.03 (19.38)
Usain Bolt 8.95 (28.33)
Asafa Powell 8.77 (37.10)

That's bout as good as the estimates I can produce. Safe change between Carter & Frater so don't be too annoyed at 10.35 and 9.03, they could've been quite quicker (in 10.2x and 8.9x) with better changes. Like I say the numbers above are just estimates

E-Man Callander 9.28 (19.57-28.95).......TnT has a new curve burner !

Check dat again cause some bredda on here said that the Trini caught up Bolt.

When they work out the split times we'll see. What fools many people is that Bolt doesn't "appear" to run fast. Just wait for the split times.

Growing up, all us youngsters use to race and talk bout fast like Ato and dem kinda ting. We use to go crazy for Ato in Jamaica. Well, that's before he became best friends with Maurice Greene.

I was really disappointed in our race though we got silver I expected it in another fashion more intensity, that third exchange giving problems ever since JC handing off to darrell. You even saw that real disappointment from RT, when the jakans and the japs were running around smiling is only THEN he study to get a flag and celebrate  and that's cuz he realized we could have had a better hand off and try to pressure AP into tightening up too much and pip him at the line. Bolt ran the worst leg of the for so much so that Callender (who ran damn well) was making up the gound that carter & frater gave the jakans. With a better hand of we were looking at maybe 37.6 but that may have been too close for comfort for AP and he mighta mess it up.

Congrats anyway to both teams though ah still sour.

If u think Bolt ran the worst leg, U definately don't know track. The Trini made up the stagger for like 2 steps (Bolt isn't a fast starter) but look at the lead Bolt opened up in handing off to Powell. He left the Trini in his wake. Man, go learn bout track before you talk. Congrats on the silver still but learn before you analyze.

Raised eyebrows over GB relay taunts

Rooney taunts the Bahamas and Jamaica before crossing the line

Rooney taunts the Bahamas and Jamaica before crossing the line

The men's relay team have defended their over zealous celebrations as they came first in the 4x400m relay heat.

The women's relay took place first and Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu almost cost Britain a place in the final of the 4x400 metres relay in Beijing.

Ohuruogu ran the final leg in the Bird's Nest stadium and took over in second place behind Russia after good runs by Nicola Sanders, heptathlete Kelly Sotherton and 800m specialist Marilyn Okoro.

With the top three in each semi-final qualifying automatically, Ohuruogu looked to have an easy task but almost took it too easy on the home straight as the Russian quartet strode to victory.

Ohuruogu then let Cuba's Indira Terrero go past and was almost caught by Germany's Claudia Hoffmann before looking up at the big screen and putting in a vital late burst to finish third in three minutes 25.48 seconds.

"I was just told to qualify so I was taking it easy but I didn't see the German," Ohuruogu admitted.

Sotherton, in the side after Lee McConnell was forced to pull out with a quad muscle tear, added: "I felt that was a very sensible race for me. I set a pretty good pace.

"I was petrified getting the baton from Nicola and passing it on to Marilyn but I think we'll step it up tomorrow. I'm only in the team because Lee is not able to compete and I hope I've done her justice."

In the men's event, the quartet of Andrew Steele, Robert Tobin, Michael Bingham and individual finalist Martyn Rooney cruised into the final by winning the second semi-final in the fastest time of 2:59.33.

However, Rooney's taunting of the Bahamas and Jamaica before he crossed the line was completely unwarranted and the United States remain hot favourites after winning their semi despite resting individual gold and silver medallists LaShawn Merritt and Jeremy Wariner.

Rooney defended his premature celebrations, saying: "The relay is all about having fun. We are at the Olympics, we are running well, it was a quick time without doing any real work so I enjoyed it.

"The rest of the team are all pretty fresh and left with me very little to do which was what I wanted. It was good fun, tomorrow we are going to bring on our A game and take on the best."

Rooney acknowledged the American quartet are huge favourites but hinted the Jamaican team could spring a surprise by adding Usain Bolt to their line up.

"The Americans have the best team obviously with the first three in the 400m and then it's between us and the Jamaicans, although they might bring in a special guy," he added. "The Russians broke their national record but we are pretty confident."

Jade Johnson produced a highly-consistent series in the long jump final but had to settle for seventh place with a best of 6.64m in the second round.

Brazil's Maurren Maggi led after the opening round with a jump of 7.04m and dramatically held onto the gold medal as defending champion Tatyana Lebedeva jumped 7.03m in the final round.

Blessing Okagbare, who only made the final after Ukraine's Lyudmila Blonska was thrown out of the Games for failing a drugs test, took bronze with a best of 6.91m.

There was yet more baton-changing drama in the final of the women's 4x100m relay with both Britain and hot favourites Jamaica failing to finish.

Both teams made a mess of the second changeover, Montell Douglas failing to get the baton to Emily Freeman - who may have gone off too early - and Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart doing the same for the Jamaicans.

That left the Russian quartet clear to take gold ahead of Belgium and Nigeria. l

Disappointed. Cant cuss dem though. It was just inexperience on the part of Kerron Stewart. She ran off way too early. I think this was her very first relay though.

I'll belittle Phelps by saying this:

No one gives a damn about swimming. Track & Field is the main event at every olympics. Has been and will always be. This whole new swimming interest is being fueled by NBC. Their trying to force swimming down people's throats because they getting destroyed in track & field.

14
No thanks. We are all doing very well individually. Plus many small islanders wouldn't get the chance to shine as I'm sure the team would be full of Jamaicans and Trins.

What about Track & Field / Re: Phelps or Bolt...you decide
« on: August 21, 2008, 06:49:54 AM »
Please remember that Swimmers have been breaking records left right and center in the pool due to new technology(Phelps isn't the only one). I don't see other Track athletes doing the same these olympics. There were more record-breaking performances in the pool than those where records didn't fall. Come again, it's no comparison. Besides, swimming got a whole lot of unnecessary events. If they had backward 100M and 200m, 85.5m skip race and all them kinda crap I'm sure Bolt would get more golds and records.

17
So hold on. The man should pat all the other runners on the back after BREAKING THE WORLD RECORD, before celebrating his own victory. If they wanted pats on the back they should have chased him around the track while he was celebrating. Didn't he embrace the Trini who came around to him? And Ato, how come I didn't see you pat anyone on the back after the race I posted?

In an over the phone interview on tv not too long ago, they asked Bolt if he felt he had a point to prove after what Ato said.

Bolt's Response: "I dont really care about those comments and I'm sure Jamaica feels the same". Everyone knows how I am and I was just basically being myself.

What's the difference?

The difference is that Ato took issue with celebrating DURING the race... not dat f**kking hard.

So he should cross the finish before disrespecting his competitors? Ok, I get it.

Jamaicans have know Shelly-ann Fraser from High School Championships. Dont come with the didn't know crap. She was always second to our other young prodigy, Anisha Mclaughclin, who has really fallen off. She was the female that destroyed the Caribbean in Carifta same year Bolt did. If she was still around and was training as hard as Shelly-ann, she would've been the Gold Medal winner.

Reason why we running things now is simple. IAAF cracking down on the American drug cheats so they have no good, clean athletes right about now. I mean, look at the 100m men. Show off Shawn Crawford didn't even make the US team. Darvis Patton and Walter Dix are crap. In the women's 100m, Lauryn Williams and Tori Edwards(who's coming off a doping ban) didn't show up. We were always second best to the cheats and now that IAAF wiping dem out, we're taking our place.
Man talk ah book they jed.hence no NBC coverage

Only reason I'm not buying that is because you'd have to show who the American athletes are that are banned right now for doping... who would otherwise be challenging (Gatlin aside).  Jamaica has had an excellent Olympics thus far... let's not mar that by saying that the only reason that's the case is because banned Americans aren't competing.

Marion Jones, Shaun Crawford and even Tori Edwards if she didn't get caught.

As I said before, if our athletes are doping, I certainly hope they do get caught and face the stiffest penalties because right now the country in a celebratory mood. If they are doing well unfairly and get busted, I don't think it would be wise for them to return home. They would get stick tell dem weak.

The US protesting. Their own damn athlete false started and they want the race to run over. Real Joke. How in the hell u move off and lead everyone in the race, come last and then protest.  :rotfl:  :rotfl:
Plus their also saying that if the Jamaicans are sharing the silver medal, they think they should get bronze. Man, I never knew I'd live to see the day the US crying and begging for bronze.

Either that or his body is completely differnt to every other human being. No human has reduced his PB so drastically in one year. Maybe he is a phenom. For now we have to say phenom.

He was always unique. Remember what he did to the rest of the Caribbean in Carifta 01 or 02?

I agree Paw but just up to last year he never ran under 10. I wont say its drugs but it is perhaps something herbal not ganja that only the Ja coaches know about. Becz asafa was a sudden riser also. I hope they give Darrel some of that though.

He never ran under sub-10 because he never really practiced for the 100. When he ran 9.76 in KGN it was just his 5th 100m. It was a big event so I guess he put out all his effort. He was always a brilliant 200 runner tho. He came thru the ranks in the 200.
