LONDON, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson has been fined by police for trying to steal a toilet seat and bath taps from a store, according to media reports on Friday.

Johnson, on loan from Chelsea, tried to smuggle the bathroom accessories out of a B & Q home improvement store with the help of Millwall striker Ben May on Wednesday, British media said.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police arrested two 22-year-old men on Wednesday on suspicion of theft in Dartford. Both men have been issued with 80 pound ($157.9) fixed penalty notices".

Johnson, who has played five times for England, was Chelsea's first signing following the club's takeover by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in July, 2003. He arrived from West Ham United for six million pounds.

Football / Scolari: "Latapy... better than player than Ronaldinho" !
« on: January 19, 2007, 02:44:11 PM »
Ok... that's not true.

But I was wondering about the general opinions on this partriotic T&T football forum.   :)

Do you consider Latapy to be a better player than Ronaldinho?  Now when I say 'better' I'm just throwing that out there.  You define what you think 'better' means and vote.  Give your reasons/considerations e.g. age, skill, era, Benhakker  ;) etc.

I hope this produces some interesting views and constructive analysis.

Notice I did not provide a neutral option - make a choice!  ;)

There is a nice write up on Latapy here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Latapy

There is also one on Ronaldinho here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronaldinho

« on: January 19, 2007, 11:32:42 AM »
TI, Hardest will get a run in the Gold Cup.  ;D :-X :rotfl:

I think that the best available team should play in the Gold Cup.  If Carlos is available why not let him play?  Don't we want to be the first Caribbean team to win a Gold Cup and play in the Confederations Cup?  Be realistic, this young team cannot win the Gold Cup - against the likes of USA and Mexico.
There were players that got us to the point of the World Cup final six, and didn't make it to the World Cup.  It should be no different here.  This is not about giving players a chance, it is about winning.  If they want to make the team, let them play better than the available overseas players for it.
At the same time, no overseas player should make the squad unless he is significantly better than the local alternative.  The days of secure places ended with the coming of Benhakker - just ask Latapy.

"Ti yuh boy Hardest was quiet, besides the goal and the pass to Glasgow, it was as if he was not on the field."

But ah starting tuh wonder if allyuh fellas really bias in trute, how de man could be like "he was not on the field" and yet win the Digicel Man of the Match?  From Fuentes match report "Kerwyn “Hardest” Jemmott, the eventual Digicel “Man of the Match”"

Somebody getting drunk and then picking a man of the match.  There was nothing special from Hardest.

Hardest did his part effectively alongside Theobald.  Theobald had perfect passes throughout the game - even more so than in the previous game.  Hardest finally stepped up his game and made a contribution.  Tinto is still looking like a promising talent.

Good result.  GO T&T!!

Is it that we are playing really well or we playing okay and Haiti is indifferent to the game?

We are not playing really well, but we are playing better than we did in the Martinique game.  Haiti is playing with all that they have to offer.

When the game come on video I want alyuh confirm this with me.

Denzil looking good because he getting the ball under NO PRESSURE.

He collecting the ball in the stopper position with nobody pressuring him so he could take his time look up and spray passes........he doing it well and looking good.

When is midfield battle time defensively he coming second.

I find he is moving smart and using his upstairs as he knows what his strengths and weaknesses are.

It is because of this people giving him different ratings.

Watch him good. You must measure a player touch and composure when pressure take him, not when he have room and space.

I watched some of the B'dos vdo, and man that was a slow game. No up front pressure at all.  They were playing the same way Trini does which I hate, sit back and wait for the opponent to enter the last 1/3 of the pitch before picking them up.
Vs Mexico that will never happen, is constant pressure and if you dont have touch and control you will lose the ball under pressure and the defense will be under constant attack.

One thing I will say though, some folks like to say not to get carried away because of the low level of the opponents, I am one of those, but on the flip side, if you playing a team that is weak then you supposed to put 5 on them not scrape through 1 - nil.
So even though they looking good vs soft oppostition, they get props for that at least, cause you should look good vs weak opponents.

Constructive critique, but also remember that Theobald played in the Mexico game.

1989,

So yuh saying his mouth make him unable to make the Bench at Falkirk on a regular basis and it was also the reason for him not being able to start a match or make the first team.

Or is it because Latapy keep him out the side.

Reality is that Theobald's mouth kept him aiming for the bench.  Further, before the start of this season the coach informed him that the bench was higher that the stars for him.... (yuh know how they say to aim for the stars :rotfl: )  That alone shows that the coach made up his mind long before.

He will lose out on a lot more if he doesn't exercise wisdom.

I jess doh understand why men on here does dog Densil? When de coach he self say Densil doing a god job. That makes me questioon alyuh knowledge of football.
fuh real
NICE

perhaps u are right...and perhaps Wim is just doing a good job at managing the press and his players' confidence. All part of a coach's job. I did not see the Martnique game, so I cannot comment on how well Densil played. But your statement is quite naive. Having said that, it will be nice if his performances continue to improve. Like I said before, Densil cannot be where he is now without having something...a lot of different coaches have or have had belief in him..not just Wim

I think that this is a key oversight from which many posters on this thread suffer.  Falkirk's coach could have evaluated Theobald and send him straight back to T&T - instead he offered a contract in the Scottish Premier League not the fete match league  ;).  Several T&T players did trials and came straight back home - Theobald came back because he was a casualty of his mouth.  Interestingly enough, Theobald's problem is still lack of self control.  Several times during this game he mouthed off the referee.  This will eventually cost him.

Soldier,

I go have to disagree with you on Bleeder.

I sorry but I write off your credibility in this thread with this one line yuh type here.

Quote
The World Cup is the highest level of football, and Theobald played well in all three games.  On defense, his attempts were more effective than the other defenders.

 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Breds there were two TT mysteries in the WC...the first one was why Latapy only get 20 min.
The second one was why Theobold get 270 min.

I have to admit, that was funny.  :D

My statement is not based on this single game:

I'm not sure how many of you saw the T&T vs. Martinique Digicel Caribbean Cup game last night, but one player definitely stood out from the rest - Densill Theobald.  His passing, defensive tactics, technique, control and confidence expressed a level of superiority that is not yet possessed by any of the other players on the team.  Quite frankly Densill Theobald is Premiership Material.   Just a few out of order words cost him that in Scotland - it clearly had nothing to do with professional skill.  There is no question that he should be this team's captain, and  that he should continue to be featured in the senior team.

When I say 'Quite frankly Densill Theobald is Premiership Material.'  I do not mean that his performance in this game makes him such, because he has had this skill long before - which is why he made the WC starting line up.  My point is that the player is at an elevated technical level to his current colleagues and that this was exemplified within this particular game.

Either way, you have to be able to separate player analysis from a team analysis and acknowledge that the performance of the team is not an indication of the player's technical skill or understanding of the game.

Football / Ronaldo Follows Beckham....Making Room for Stern ;-)

Ronaldo heading for Madrid exit
Real Madrid's Brazilian striker Ronaldo has been told he can leave the club.

Ronaldo, 30, is the second big name to be told he is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu after David Beckham agreed to move to LA Galaxy in August.

"The situation is different to that of Beckham as Ronaldo still has another year on his contract after this one," said club president Ramon Calderon.

"But he is going to be inactive because the coach has made it clear he doesn't count on him."

Ronaldo has started only three league matches under Italian coach Fabio Capello, who has been focusing on bringing in new blood since taking over in the summer.

The three-time World Player of the Year, who has scored only one goal this season, missed Sunday's 1-0 victory over Real Zaragoza with a leg injury.

Following the win, Capello celebrated by making an obscene gesture towards a small section of the crowd that had been calling for his head - although he did later make an apology.
   606: DEBATE

AC

"I want to apologise to everyone but this has been going on since the first day I arrived. here. There are two people behind the dug-out who are continually offensive," he said.

"The gesture was towards those two but, as the coach of Real Madrid, I should apologise," said Capello, outraged that his abusers this time had a sign that said 'Ronaldo stay, Capello get lost'.

But it is the Brazilian who is heading for the exit and Ronaldo could follow Beckham to Major League Soccer following speculation over a move to New York Red Bulls.

The former Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Inter Milan forward has also been linked with a return to Italy with Juventus and a move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Al Ittihad president Mansour Al Balwi said on Friday: "There is definite interest. We have not negotiated with him but very soon we will start the process of getting in contact with him."

Calderon added: "We have to find an exit that's good for him.

"I know sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has had conversations with some clubs and that the player also has offers but we'll have to wait and see whether it will be now or in June.

"It would surely be better for the club and him if he went if there are offers. If not, he will stay with us."

So many conflicting reports. I did hear that going forward he was very good last night, but how did he look when he was off the ball? How was his work rate and positioning. I understand that defensively he was poor, easily being beaten and lacking any physical presence. Can you confirm whether he really was easily bounced off the ball, and beaten continually in the midfield. Sounds like half of his game is strong, but the other half needs a lot of work....He does not sound like a very complete footballer and not ready for the highest level of football. No dis on Denzil..I want him to succeed..But are you looking at him the way a coach would or are you only concerened with what he did once on the ball? Respect  :beermug:

The World Cup is the highest level of football, and Theobald played well in all three games.  On defense, his attempts were more effective than the other defenders.  At times he would not perform the tackles, but would block a pass by occupying the space betwen the Martinique players - just as we did against England and Sweden - particularly England.  This is not a skill that is understood by other players on the field - and this was evidenced by the amount of unnecessary crowding in the defense last night.  You only need to cut off the passing space in some cases to force an error/alternate weaker play in the opposition's attack - Theobald understands and executed this well.

Remember that Russell Latapy saw Theobald and arranged a deal at Falkirk for him.  Falkirk plays at the Premiership level in Scotland, and we all know that it was only Theobald's careless remarks about Falkirk being a small team that caused a bench warming situation for him.

As far as speed goes, if Theobald could play in the Sweden game for any amount of time, he could play anywhere.

There are other notable players.

Leslie Fitzpatrick who was a constant menace for Martinique on that left side, although I don't see him challenging Samuel for that left side position as yet.

At half time the commentators, were virtually calling for Gary Glasgow's removal, however, he delivered the goods twice in the second half.  All in all though, I don't see him challenging Stern any time soon.  I actually think that given the number of easy open chances that this team had, had Stern been present the scoreline would have looked like that of an 'American Football' game.

Hayden Tinto, who came on in the 66th minute is definitely senior national team material.  He has potential.  If the team is missing Carlos Edwards, Tinto can comfortably fill the void.

Kerwin 'Hardest' Jemmot did not impress me - and this is not a diss to TI.  Rather, TI please call Hardest and tell the man that he needs to step up his game - Theobald and Tinto are looking much better than he is, and they are more game impacting than he is.  As far as comparisons to Latapy, some were saying 20 out of 10 and 8 out of 10 for Hardest - not even close - I say 4 out of 10.  Had Latapy been on that field, that game would have ended early because of the fighting Martinicans (did i spell that right?).

All in all I think that it was a decent performance by a very inexperienced team.  I don't believe that this team could replace our world cup squad entirely, rather the best could be included and the worst/older ones of the World Cup team could be replaced.

Beckham's Madrid future undecided
[/size]
David Beckham's future at Real Madrid remains unclear after reports that the Spanish club would not offer the former England captain a new contract.

Predrag Mijatovic, Real's sporting director, was reported to have told Sky Italia there would be no new contract.

However, Mijatovic later said his words had been mistranslated and he actually said: "Beckham's contract has not been renewed, yet."

Talks regarding a new two-year deal are set to resume on Thursday.

Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliveira said Real's offer for Beckham, whose contract expires in June, is "still on the table", although the player has been allowed to speak to other clubs since 1 January about a possible move.

An exit from the Bernabeu seemed likely, earlier on Wednesday, when Mijatovic was quoted as telling Sky Italia television: "Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club."

But a spokesman for the club's president, Ramon Calderon, was quick to play down his mistranslated comment.

"There is nothing official confirmed yet on Beckham's future," said spokesman David Jimenez Arribas.

Nevertheless, it remains unclear as to whether the former Manchester United star will be plying his trade for Real next season.

He has been linked with a host of clubs from England, Italy, Spain, France and the United States.

Beckham has failed to cement a regular place in coach Fabio Capello's side during the current campaign, having started just nine times.

The 31-year-old, who signed for Real for £25m in July 2003, has again been left out of the Real squad for the Copa del Rey tie with Real Betis on Thursday.

The other 'Galactico' to have been omitted is Brazil striker Ronaldo, who was tipped by Spanish newspaper AS on Tuesday to leave the Bernabeu along with the former England captain.

Beckham was included in the starting XI for the league matches against Getafe, Sevilla and Recreativo Huelva and the Champions League game at Lyon, but Real lost all four encounters.

In the nine matches he has started, Real have been defeated in all but two.

Martinique is a threat to T&T.  For that matter any team is a threat to T&T right now, because of the composition that Wim has chosen.

I personally think that the transition to a new team should have been more gradual, but that didn't seem to work out.

This team had better win the Digicel Cup, because we will lose a lot of credibility if we don't cement ourselves as the top carbbean team coming off a world cup appearance.  Yes it's not the same WC team, but the new guys have to credibly carry the team forward.

I must say that I'm sorry that Birchall couldn't make the team though, because he can make any shaky midfield stable.

As for those players that are talking, they better put on a do-or-die attitude when they hit the field.  Throwing the towel in during a game because other teammates are not performing in their own opinion, will not work.

Steups, well with the utter mess that Newcastle played yesterday, I was expecting him to be a sure signing.

Sunderland?  Why Yorke gone and talk stupidness in Carlos head, in hopes of realizing his own (selfish) dreams of playing the in EPL again?

I support Carlos, but Sunderland under Keane, who done eh want to let go 'little' caribbean players for national duty is a disappointment.

All in all, though, I did not see the offers that were made nor heard the full circumstances as did Carlos.  Either way, I wish him the best, although I think that he is much better than Sunderland....

P.S.  Carlos, if yuh reading, doh limit yourself with that old talk about warming bench vs. playing for Sunderland.   Any team chasing you right now eh looking to put you on the bench.  They go bench Stern, Yorke, and even Latas (just ask Benhakker) but not you.

Jefferz take yuh head out of your father stink latrine nah - the content eh so fresh.

Read the words in bold again idiot. Who said that he was a fool?  I said that I am disappointed.  The points that I've made are valid.  Keane will pressure Carlos to leave T&T.  Yorke DOES want another shot at the premiership - which IS why he encouraged Carlos to join.

Point is, Sunderland might well make it to the Primiership, and remain at the bottom whole season.  Will that happen to Newcastle? Unlikely.

Again I did not see the Carlos' offers, but either way I am disappointed.  Having said that, as I've stated before, I wish Carlos the best.

Arhmmm i could be missing something....buh i didnt hear about any confirmed offer from newcastle. Maybe you could put me on to the link or what ever cuz i cant remember hearing newcastle's name mentioned. Even if carlos wanted to go to newcastle......newcastle has to want carlos as well. The man made the choice that was best for him...and i believe all things considered that it would work out for the best. Newcastle wasnt in the equation...so newcastle couldnt have been part of the equation.

ENT. and tell me 1989... did Yorke Whisper in your ear his sole reason for coaxing Carlos into comming was so that he could go back into the Prem and inturn carelessly jeopardize Carlos loyalty to the socwarriors cuz Keane will keep him in England.

Get your head out of your ass and stop over analyzing.

You may think Carlos deserves alot better than Sunderland but he obviously doesnt.

Nobody made him go... he decided to go... but go ahead nuh... be as unaccommodating to our new Sunderland colleagues as you want.

stewps.

And like you under analyzing 'cuz it's still too dark in the deep latrine to read and understand.

I've said over and over, I did not see the Carlos' offers.  That does not mean that I am not to be disappointed.  And YES Carlos did say that Yorke encouraged him to join, but I guess that's just out of the altruistic goodness of Yorke's heart huh?

BTW
This has nothing to do with Sunderland Fans.  You over analyzing there.

Leaving all this, as I've said before, I still wish Carlos the best.

Stewps... ok... lets run this over jackass... If you had any goddamn sense yuh might just find it perfectly normal that countryman and long time team mate will encourage you to come to play professional football with him... I know that may seem devious and conniving to you.. but most of it see it to be quite normal...

And yes of course it has something to do with the fans moron... I know if I was ah sunderland fan I would let you have it with all the shit about you being disappointed he goin to Sunderland... They have a huge fan base... a legend for a manager... solid investors and a team thats on the up not to mention... they already have a true trini legend playing there...

So YES it has something to do with the fans you sour bastard... and just telling Carlos i wish you the best isnt makin up for your irrational comments.

Alright Genius. Read dis over and tell me who soundin chupid.

Your grandfather must be sitting on your face.  So Yorke just wants Carlos to come and play football because he is an international teammate?  Regardless of the options in front of Carlos, Yorke would have done the same as long as Sunderland was on the tabe, and it is NOT because of some fren-fren thing as you are only able to see from your vantage point.

You also don't seem to be able to separate a statement of disappointment from a none-the-less wish of well being.

And Sunderland fans?  So because I am disappointed as were others in this thread, that's an attack on Sunderland fans?

Jefferz you are a classic overreating simple individual.
and this has nothing to do with me not recognizing you saying none-the-less wish of well being... I recognize you saying that well but that doesnt have anything to do with what we're really arguing about... this is you stating your opinion that Sunderland is a bad choice and Yorke being of impure intention... and me disagreeing... then us... having the subsequent argument...
Actually, Jefferz, this has nothing to do with that.  It has everything with the first six words of your first response.
But say what... I'm done.

Stewps. yuh takin ah conspiracy 101 online course awa??

Steups, well with the utter mess that Newcastle played yesterday, I was expecting him to be a sure signing.

Sunderland?  Why Yorke gone and talk stupidness in Carlos head, in hopes of realizing his own (selfish) dreams of playing the in EPL again?

I support Carlos, but Sunderland under Keane, who done eh want to let go 'little' caribbean players for national duty is a disappointment.

Blessings.

oh shut tuh f**k up nuh... Carlos eh no little boy he know very well wut he doin... yuh eh think he eh think this over thoroughly... buh wuh kinda chupidee yuh is boy... STEWPS.

Not only is this a needless response becuase Carlos know what he doin buh think ah de new sunderland fellahz on de board... we'd like to start a good relationship with them... this is a family forum. So stop actin like A.) Carlos is a fool and B.) like Sunderland is a sub standard club.
