Football / Re: Thread for the T&T vs USA Game (10-Oct-2017)

Congrats to the team on closing out the campaign on a positive note.

That being said, I can't take the same level of satisfaction as most on here seem to be about the US being eliminated at our hands. Perhaps it's just because I was only 5 when the Strike Squad lost that match or because I've seen our team play at a World Cup since...it's not that important to me.

I'm more interested in knowing what our game plan is going forward to catch up with the Honduras and Panama's of the region who have clearly overtaken us since our WC appearance, based on both qualifiers and Gold Cup performances, not to mention the glaring fact that we are no longer and have not been for more than 15 years - Kings of the Caribbean

The "Trump" tweet is funny as hell though.  ;D

Good Day Forumites,

Good luck to the boys. Not holding out much hope for qualification but would like something positive to build on going forward.

On another note, kind of short notice but I have two advanced unconvered tickets burning a hole in my pocket and car issues all cropping up at the last minute.

Would still like to make it but no way I'm trying to commute with threat of rain locusts and whatever else happens in that strange country called South  :D

I'm in Diego side, pm me if anyone is interested.

We had a goal scorer that scored 12 goals in WC Qualifying in 06. This team looks like it will struggle to get 12 goals as a team.

Ah hear he was the wuss thing to ever put on a tugs... ::)

Football / Re: D Touches Pass Tru - TT Vs Costa Rica
« on: November 13, 2016, 09:19:23 PM »
the goal occured 2 or 3 plays before it actually scored, when we had possession. but anyway, we as fans not ready for this level, so why as players should they be. The team played well, Costa Rica was a little taken aback, until they later (rather than sooner) worked us out.

Questionable thought process at best. Nobody pays us to be fans. In fact its quite the opposite...

Agree with everything else I have seen though. CRC's experience showed. Back when they were an 'ok' Concacaf side we had trouble staying on the same field with them. Now that they are on the world radar from multiple World Cup appearances and have players of proven quality I think they showed the capacity to ride out the storm, observe us, adjust, and capitalise on our weaknesses when the opportunity presented itself (as it tends to do over 90+ minutes). If nothing else this (like the 4-0 in the US) serves as a wake up call to the players as to the difference between say a Guatemala and the big three teams in this confederation.

Fans need to be less passive though. For most of the match, the HCS was like a cemetery. It was pitiful to see three stillborn waves in a row...

As already indicated, we are essentially in a mini league with Honduras and Panama for that fourth spot and have the theoretical advantage of playing a hopefully already qualified Mexico in Mexico and more importantly an already qualified USA at home in our last two matches. Any points gained against Costa Rica would have been a bonus.

What has been lost is the opportunity to rally the fans at the start of the Hex. The two home matches against Panama and to a lesser extent, Mexico in March are vital before two tough away matches in June where in all likelihood we will get a grand total of 0 points.
We need to have at least four points to have any realistic chance of advancing by the time we face Honduras at home in September in our seventh match of the series.

Red: Friday’s colour
By Andre Baptiste, T&T Guardian.

As we celebrate 54 years of Independence today, let us all be certain we know that talk is cheap!

Talking is for pretenders!

It is time for action, where words mean nothing if we cannot substantiate it with the appropriate action and momentum that will give true meaning to the word “Support.”

As a people that talk a lot and are always quick to kick our athletes when they are down, it is time for every citizen to demonstrate that they care about our national teams by spending their own money and attending the very important football match against Guatemala on Friday.

Well Said. :beermug:
Happy Independence SW.Net
Plan to pick up my tics today or tomorrow. Not happy about the absence of preparation and the Bostock thing but still proceeding with boundless faith in our destiny.

Go T+T!

Even so, I've heard nothing that I'd listen to after dimanche gras.

Out of curiosity, can you tell me any songs from the last few years that fall into that category for you?

I'm not sure how anyone could write an article about tthis year's kaiso fiesta and not make reference to the glaring omission of Kurt Allen.

King number 2 is the most original and in my opinion the best song I've heard for the year with possibly Karene Asche's 'Every knee shall bow' tied..

More importantly his performance was boss. You don't get into a competition with the highest score, put down a performance like that and get beat by lame ducks like Duane O' Connor, Myron  B, Bunny B, and worse yet, a song that shouldn't even be in the competition (i.e. I wish this was a kaiso)

There is definitely more in the mortar than in the pestle.

Shadow was never going to make the finals on his performance and Aloes should not even have been there.

I haven't heard Chalkdust but his omission from the semis had me puzzled.

I can't actually tell because of the way the new FIFA rankings page sucks...what's up with that?

Copa centramericana was in September. Caribbean Cup was in October and November.

Don't think we could have expected much better than the one point from 2 games  - people seem to not realise we haven't won a gold cup game in 11 tries - not even Beenie's Warriors managed it.

That said. Good luck to the Boys again, no time like the present to break the streak!

Just beat Honduras and problem solved.

Watching Honduras versus Haiti and El Salvador, I believe I have seen enough to confidently state that Honduras is not that strong. They are beatable.

I do not think TT is a bad team. I think you guys got outfoxed last night. After the first goal, Haiti changed the game by letting TT keep the ball and move it laterally, which allowed Haiti to maintain its lead while setting up the stage for the second goal. Haiti benched St-Preux, Herold, and other masters of beautiful games for a faster moving team in anticipation that if we take the lead early, Trinidad, which does not have a midfield that is on par with that of Haiti, will press forward with long and high balls while becoming vulnerable for counterattacks. That was exactly what happened. By the way, that is probably what Honduras will try to do. Watch for the strong push to take the lead and the defensive stance that follows.

That being said, TT lacked a true playmaker a la Jeff Louis (remember Latas without dwelling in the past)) and guys who can take a good long shot. A lot of big and athletic guys but no shots on goal!

so pretty much, you're saying we were outcoached as well, as opposed to being simply outplayed? Father, put a hand!

It never fails.
Well said football supporter.

Almost every host country falls out of the rankings because friendlies aren't counted as high as competitive matches.

In the same way, all European sides that so much as won a game are at an advantage at the moment with the Euros just having finished.

What kind of sports journalism dey have in SA? Dey have journalist covering de team that doh know de tiebreak scenarios or not informing de fans? Awful.

Ent we had T&T journalists and Sean Fuentes telling us we were top of the group after two games despite Guyana having an overall better goal difference than us?

This is not the first time this happened, and while the coach is ultimately to blame, asylumseeker has a point. Somebody (NOT THE COACH) should be assigned to go through the competition rules at the start of the tournament, even if is just for the record. These regional competitions, particularly outside of europe are notorious for changing rules from edition to edition. Anybody remember the Caribbean cup game where one side (think it was Barbados) was desperately trying to score on themselves to get a tie, because according to the rules they would have got through with that, but not with a win???

Must say having all of Nigeria, South Africa and Ghana not qualifying is a surprise. If Cameroon/Ivory Coast doh take it this rounds they will never forgive themselves

Tickets for the three home games are on sale at www.otfbermuda.com.

Grandstand seats cost $25 while general seating in the eastern bleachers costs $15.  Children under 12 and seniors pay $10.

But the association is also offering three-match package tickets, which cost $60 for the grandstand and $40 for general seating.

score one for the big belly red men....

Jewell: Jason's been superb
TWTD.co.uk

Joking about Scotland’s decision to give up international football, Jewell said: “Last year I thought he’d announced his domestic retirement!

“He’s been superb Jason. I actually thought he’d retired [from international football] anyway.

I’d quite like all our players to retire from international football, to be honest with you!

Jewell should audition with Learie and Tommy....Ouch

Best of luck and thanks for the years of service... :-\
