Why was our Prime Minister not on the FIFA V.P. dignitary list for the WC finals ... was a precedent set here??  Do you all remember Kirpalanis, is he destined to have the same fate as Kirpalanis????

3
if this is correct, what should FIFA do?  Should they penalize him and take away his medal or should the team be penalized??

Adidas to launch Internet 'thank you' site for Zidane
First Published: Jul 10, 2006

Adidas advert shows Zinedine Zidane presenting the official "Teamgeist" World Cup football. Adidas, the German maker of sportswear and equipment, plans to launch the Internet site mercizidane.fr on July 15 to thank Zidane as he retires.
Adidas, the German maker of sportswear and equipment, plans to launch the Internet site mercizidane.fr on Saturday to thank French football star Zinedine Zidane as he retires.

Fans are to write and videotape messages for the former French captain, with one lucky fan set to win the jersey worn by Zidane during the football World Cup final against Italy on Sunday.

Adidas thus confirmed its support for Zidane, a celebrated French playmaker who was sent off in disgrace in the final minutes of the match, which was his last before retirement.

"In no case does it change our relations with Zinedine Zidane, with whom we have been associated since 1996 and until 2017," said Emmanuelle Gaye, director of external relations for Adidas France.

Zidane was named the tournament's best player despite being shown a red card and dismissed after headbutting Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the chest in the second period of extra-time.

The planned Internet site was designed "to invite the French to thank this master of French football for all that he has done," Gaye told AFP.

"People will be able to comment in writing and through videos."

The two best videos are to be given awards, one of which is to be the Adidas jersey worn by Zidane during the final match.

I often wonder how a brain that espouse such ideas is wired???  So where are these kids parents and or guardians that should be their idols.  I have a kid that play and is not at all concerned about what he saw yesterday, because according to most he is being raised well.

Zidane wins Golden Ball award.

Zizou tops poll
By TERRY LAND

ZINEDINE ZIDANE has been awarded the Golden Ball as the best player at the World Cup.

The Frenchman has been nominated despite his sending-off in the final last night.

Playing in his final match before retirement Zidane was dismissed in extra time for headbutting Italy’s Marco Materazzi.

The prize was decided by media votes, cast before Zidane was
shown the red card.

Zidane received 2,012, Italian captain Fabio Cannavaro finished second (1,977) and his team mate Andrea Pirlo was third (715).

Brazil and Spain shared the fair play award.

Zidane was disappointing in France’s opening games and was suspended for their crucial final group match against Togo.

But he returned to give match-winning performances against Spain, Brazil and Portugal before his final brainstorm.

A GEAT LEADER ONCE SAID IF YOU DO NOT STAND FOR SOMETHING YOU WILL FALL FOR ANYTHING ... I GUESS HE CROSSED THE LINE WITH ZIDANE AND HIS ACTIONS WILL BE JUDGED BT HIS CREATOR.  HE HAD A GREAT CAREER AND WHILE IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT IT ENDED THIS WAY ... MOST OF US MAY NOT AGREE WITH HIS ACTIONS IN THIS GAME, I AM SURE BY NOW HE AND ALL DOES NOT AGREE WITH HIS ACTION ... HE IS STILL ONE OF THE GREATEST PLAYERS TO HAVE PLAYED THE GAME.  AND HOPEFULLY HIS ACTIONS WILL PREVENT ANPTHER PLAYER IN THE FUTURE FROM MAKING SUCH COMMENTS IF TRUE!!!

It ayways amazes me how people could stay so far from a situation, not have the facts and arrive at hard and fasr conclusions????  All of you all who know what he should have done ... do you know what you would have done, if it was you under the psycho;ogical and physical pressure that these guys endure???  I am not daying that he was right or wrong, but what i am saying is that we are all humans before we become, footballers , pastors, doctors etc., and do make mistakes from time to time.  If he did say something racist, them maybe, just maybe Zuidane did deal with it right ... because this is 2006 and racism has no place in our society.  And until you have been the victim of racial abuse, you are not entitled to decide what anyone should do in that circumstance.

Well let we forget what Martin Luther King Jr say about racism and non-violence nah. Let we forget Gandhi and them other non-violent leaders against racism -- let we idolize Zidane instead nah -- headbutt all the way -- forget Luther King Jr and Gandhi (them men neverr face racism and know what it feel like nah)

All that is assuming is racism we talking bout. Allyuh just fraid to ZIDANE WAS WRONG!

The reason we still having to deal with racism, is because of what Martin and them said.  Other leaders had better solutions ... we cannot judge Zidane to be wrong when we do not know what the facts are, let wait and hear first.  There were other leaders that had ideas that would have eliminated this thing already.  But again if you never had to deal with it first hand, then please you are not in a position to judge Zidane or anyone ... if it is racism he was dealing with??

Nothing was wrong with this world cup.

I think the days for fast and free flowing football between footballing powers are gone because the stakes are just too high to take that chance.

Defences are just too strong now, and the emphasis on not conceeding a goal rather than scoring one is making games appear to be boring.

The only team in the second round that played free flowing football was ghana, and they only did this because they had nothing to lose!!

to hear of a big team like England, playing against a soccer minow like Ecuador with one striker says enough.

Also, to see france play Henry up front by himself and play both makelele and vierra makes it worse. It worked for France, only because of the brilliance of Zidane. But in the early rounds, they were outplayed by switzerland and were held by South Korea.

Another factor is the amount of football being played these days, and the whole brazilian team can atest to that!!

The standard of play was not bad, but probably the hype leading up to the world cup was a bit too much!!

ah love it!!

I would agree that a lot more football is being played ... but no one is complaining when they receive 28Million a year for playing the game.  Balls are being re-engineered to benefit attacking players, yet the ball is constantly sent into the stand ... three penalties missed by players being discussed as being among the best in the world (not saying that they aren't).  Maybe FIFA need to consider cancelling some tournaments and working with leagues to shorten leagues during the WC year?  That means less money though.

I agree that our prticipation in this WC makes it memorable ... not sure that makes it a classic though!

While most of the points are vlid generally, we have seen a WC where unfit players participate, something unheard of in the day of Pele.  Who by the way did not participate in the 74 WC because he was not up to doing the work required to get fit ... which id fair.  Football is an outdoor game and the weather conditions have been similar over the past 17 Worl Cups ... why is it an excuse for players not performing?  In past cups Individual talent has been exceptional, especially in free kicks etc ... today we have players such as Ballck, Lampard, Ronaldinho, Henry, to name a few having to effect on big games ... unheard of during the times of Maradona, Garrincha, Falcao.  Pele came on the scene at 17, why did we not see Leo Messi and others have a bigger influence?

Football / WC #18 - How does it Compare?
« on: July 06, 2006, 12:06:42 PM »
Could this be considered one of the worst World Cups ever, when compared to some of the previous compeitions.  Looking back and comparing individual ability ... is it true that quality of the individual talent in this WC has been substandard.  The shooting for example seems to have been at a very low standard, when compared to WC that featured Pele, Garrincha, Cubillas, Kempes, Maradona and others over the past 17WCups.  Should England and Argentina, for example, rely more on their young talent (e.g. Walcott & Messi)  The WC normally is the place when young talent would annunce their arrival, that did not seem to be the case during this WC?

On a side note for my 12 days in Germany I saw just one evening of unrest..................in frankfurt for the Holland Argentina game.
Dutch fans were beating Aregntinans and also fighting with other dutch fans including chairs being thrown and the police had to wade in.
Did we see anything on the news ?
Not one dam thing

If I did not see it myself I would havent known about it.

Dont believe everything you see on TV

also on a side not people forget the size of englands support, all it takes is .5 % of 100,000 supporters acting like idiots and you have 500 pricks !

There was a drunk Trini after the Sweden game acting like a real idiot and deserved a beating so we had our problem too but just on a much smaller scale !

I was at that game and did not see nor hear about that.

If I aws a betting man, I would bet anything that PEG is not a Trini ... guarantee you he isfrom another country or lived overseas for most of his life.

The 2006 WC is now behind us and we need to start looking towrad the future.  This forum has done a good job in keeping the TTFF "honest" as best as it could in reference to what is important.  Well, the qualification for the U16/U17 WC will beging soon and as far as I am aware there is not a competent coach in place for that team.  As we all witnessed, football is a coaches game, and a competent coach can make the difference.  If the federation is serious about qualifying for 2010 ... then I would suggest we put the same effort into ensuring that we qualifing for the U16/U17 WC.  What say you?

« on: June 11, 2006, 05:15:48 AM »
I am full confident in coach and ting, but really felt bringing on Latas in the last 10-15 mins would have made an impact. Even just for the sake of killing time, coach could have used a third sub. Some have said in conversation that Latas @ 37 may not be able to handle the pace, but the one thing about the little magician is he can take control of a game and create plays that players others simply can't. So Bennie, make sure and give Latas a sweat, cause we need a front driver with vision in a game especially when we on defensive for the majority of play.

You are saying that for one or both of the following reasons ... either you are a very selfish individual and putting satisfying your personal gratification before the country's best interest ... or you do not understand anything about the game to realize that bringing on Latas yesterday would have been asking us to play with 8 men.

Hope this helps!

« on: June 05, 2006, 05:27:25 AM »
What insight or lack of, that allow the England coaching to staff to select Theo Walcott, who has not played one professional game to participate this WC ... and the United States not pick Freddie Adu who some would argue is one of the best young talent in the USA and have been playing in the professional league for two years?  All things being equal souldn't Freddie be in the WC?
