This was decent performance by the u20 team. In the second half, the combination of players seem to be the right ones. now one of Angus' faults in my opinion is the frequent chopping and changing and often placing players in positions they aren't used to playing. Granted he has a new young team and is trying to make the right decisions. But now there needs to be some stability in the line up.

World Athletics is deeply saddened to hear that Trinidad and Tobago’s Olympic and world 4x400m medallist Deon Lendore has died at the age of 29.

The three-time Olympian, who anchored his nation to relay bronze at the 2012 Games in London, also claimed two world indoor 400m bronze medals and a 4x400m medal of the same colour. This is such sad news! Condolences to his family!

David Nakhid will not win this case. What is his legal standing? If he is not a citizen of the United States, the university has no obligation to either accept his application or invite his for an interview. If you look at American sports, you can find many cases of apparent bias (racial, gender and sexist) in the hiring process. But whether the process is racist or biased will not be determined unless he first has legal standing. That is my legal opinion.

Here are some key points I gleaned from this effort:
1. X's and O's are a small part of success. A Coach's personality makes a huge difference in morale and spirit which can ultimately lead to success
2. Fitness was obviously a key factor! There were too many turnovers; playing faster; loss of concentration. These are all elements that improve with game fitness.
3. With the next WC opportunity in 2026, Angus should now turn its sights to bringing in a much younger squad. At least 10 of the squad are in their 30's. Only goalkeepers are likely to have good performances in their late 30's.
4. Use the next few years to schedule games in every available opportunity. (Over the next few months, WC qualifiers would be looking for games).
5. All the minute steps forward would be meaningless unless the administration (whichever survives this normalization process) gets serious about working for the issues of the country and not for self-gratification and personal gain.
6. Get the local league up and running soo the local players get some game fitness.
7. Stop this local players vs foreign players bs and select the best available players, whether foreign or local.

Go Warriors!

So he decided to park the bus in advance
He play Phillips and mostly defenders and was going for a draw?

We couldn't string together 7 to 10 passes and couldn't dribble out the back but it was pure boom kick and clearing from the back.. we were lucky we were not down 2 or 3 nil tbh

That is not a masterclass, thats cowardly.. purposely playing for a Draw with Mexico is not what I call good football... its like he already did not have confidence to win which sounds like classic eve weak mentality

There was nothing to enjoy about that match where tt was constantly on the back foot from the beginning.. the midfield was non existent

Lemme guess, draw with Mexico and go for wins against the other teams?

Eve just lost my vote of confidence with that BS he pull, I don't care if we drew with Mexico it was bad tactics

In T&T football a clean sheet is something to celebrate. After years of terrible performances. And scandals that caught international attention. Especially when we are playing without Hyland, J Jones, L. Garcia and Molino benched. And its the new coach's third game. And its Mexico we held to a goal less draw.

I'd say Eve's tactics in this game were exemplary. And its his ability to get this virtual B-side to buy into his tactics and perform that is the real eye opener
Amen! Only the results matter not bravado! Fortune favors the brave!

Teams play to win tournaments. Points are awarded as follows: Win - 3 points, Draw -1 point. Losses - 0 points. (I am sure you now that)
I don't know you but if you are upset because Eve played to get a point in a game where he was overmatched in quality, talent, and experience, then either you are a mad man, you must think this was a fete match, or you have some personal motive to be a critic of Angus Eve.

Are you telling me that Eve should have played an open game with a traditional 442 or 433 line up and get a 5-0 drubbing?
The result is all that matters, not foolish bravado. Live to fight another day, not how you get there.

Long way to go
By Fazeer Mohammed (T&T Express)

History tells you to be wary of getting carried away with positive results when it comes to Trinidad and Tobago football.

But 6-1 is 6-1. And yes, there is reason to reference Friday night’s Gold Cup qualifying victory as being against 180th-ranked Montserrat. Then again, the goalless draw which eliminated the national team from the Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign at the preliminary group stage was against 201st-ranked Bahamas.

Indeed it was based on that elimination, notwithstanding the change of head coach, that there would have been more than a little anxiety in Fort Lauderdale about the prospect of another humiliating experience against a squad based almost entirely in the United Kingdom, albeit at the level of the lower leagues.

So the result under new head coach Angus Eve can almost be described as a pleasant surprise. Still, you would hope that the former national striker, someone who has experienced the perils, pitfalls and very occasional peaks associated with the national game for more than 30 years, would be reminding his players that the journey to respectability in the eyes of a weary public will be a long and difficult one, even as he offers more encouraging words ahead of tomorrow’s final qualifier against French Guiana, also in Fort Lauderdale.

If his team were to overcome that hurdle, then Trinidad and Tobago will be in the Gold Cup proper with the immediate opportunity to show this country’s mettle against the best in the region. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves though because we have very recent painful experience of how that can end up.

Whether Terry Fenwick was a yoke around the players’ necks or not, they were also performing poorly under the guidance of one of their own, Dennis Lawrence, for years. So let’s see if all this suggestion of footballers finally free to express themselves and now motivated to give of their best for their country is genuine, or just the usual fly-by-night propaganda which accompanies the occasional good result.

In concluding his report on the game for his Wired868 website, Lasana Liburd stated: “The Warriors are back.” No room for ambiguity there, and in fairness, he has witnessed enough of the trials and tribulations of the senior men’s national team for his assessment to carry quite a bit of credence.

But I will reserve judgement for two reasons. Firstly, I don’t know if we saw enough in 90 minutes of football to point to a complete transformation from the previously tedious, error-strewn performances. And secondly, the weight of history is so overwhelming that one excellent result will not significantly ease that burden.

The last paragraph says it perfectly! so, let's applaud the win and hold off on the coronation ceremony.

What!?????!!!!!! Men on the forum praising DL now that he get a job with Coventry. My oh my!!!!!!!

Who is praising him? How many non-white coaches are there in British football, far less Europe as a whole? He was awful as our NT manager but he didn't hire himself. That is squarely on DJW/TTFA.

If coaching Coventry is his level should he not be given the opportunity, or does he not look the part??

Nothing wrong with being happy for Dennis getting another opportunity. His run with T&T did not go as any of us had hoped but many coaches fail at their first opportunity at the top. He will get some more experience and become a better coach. Good for him! Maybe in a few years he will be the ideal person to return to to lead our Warriors. Who knows

Our batting is failing us. Where are the strokemakers that the West Indies was known for - the Laras, Richards, Lloyds, Greenidges, Haynes, Khanhais, Kallicharans, Rowes, Richardsons? Or the obdurate players that wuill hold down an end when the going is tough - the Larry Gomes, the Chanderpauls?
We are doomed if we cannot unearth players like that.
Then the bowling: No matter how fast you bowl, if you cannot control length and line but spray the ball over the place (a la Shannon Gabriel), what use are you?

hope you guys are seeing that gary griffith 3rd got cut and now angus will go on to pick a predominantly local squad come game day. from now on i'm just a voyeur observing behind the scene. i will reserve my comment until the end of the gold cup.

Why do people think that picking a local squad is a positive thing? We need to pick the best players that can play together as a cohesive team. This continued local vs foreign, whether coach or players, is red herring. Our World Cup team had a majority of foreign players, all of whom were far better than anything that can be put together from players at home. The reason players get foreign contracts is because they are generally better, period! Our problem is a lack of a development system that produces players good enough to play against the best in the world, and that means good enough to get foreign contracts in top leagues.

that's certainly not true, it's just than tobago have a smaller player pool compared to trinidad's 1.5 million. i was shocked the other dat to find out that tobago's population is only 60,000, so what do they want, they had about 4 players on the last team under hart, they had cyrus, kevan george, trevin ceaser, and keon danial before he played the fool and fell out of favor with hart. i believe if the layers are good then they would be selected. that what he's talking about is long ago occurrence.

the last four coaches we had could care less about where you're from. otto fister a german has no skin in the two island quarrell, hart could have cared less, all he wanted was sokid players in his squad, even dennis who went far and wide looking for players would have allowed a dog to play as long as the dog brought something to the team.

as for terry, i could truly say that he was the first TT coach who actually gave everyone a shot, it's a shame what they did to that man who only loss one game and was fired because he didn't bring us to the hex, what foolishness.

You have completely missed the point and mischaracterized Makan's point. If you lived in Tobago and just had to travel to Trinidad to buy stuff, you would have a little understanding of the dilemma.
1. He clearly stated experiences he has had and others from Tobago. Are you saying he is lying?
2. The natural logistical challenges of travel back and forth between Trinidad and Tobago and housing arrangements for Tobagonians require special planning and execution if Tobago players are to get a fair opportunity.
3. Sure Hart may have given fair treatment but that has never been constant throughout the years.

So we sure about the content and successes of that resume ?

Or is it a similar ‘Manyouth’ Bol deal.

In addition coaching a European national not quite the same as coaching a underfunded TT program. Hope we don’t get stuck with ANOTHER major contract buyout. wait.. I forget, is what we do. Carry on !

They are promising that this will be the last time ... or that the last time was THE last time.

Might be a good time for the all-local staff to be all/significantly-female. Watch that space.
Bring back Maylee and groom her to takeover.

Scum. Pockets a pretty penny from FIFA while his players starve? What happened to getting paid for work?

There are two forms of work for which one is not compensated. One of them is known as voluntarism.

These players aren't volunteering, and this certainly isn't voluntarism/voluntourism (had a student write a disseratation about that a decade ago, interesting stuff). These are football players undertaking training for the benefit of T&T - look at how they behave about the Rangers players. No wonder they wouldn't release them, clearly there was no guarantee of insurance/compensation if they released the players they were paying.

So what are your thoughts on forced labour?

I'm not a fan, although the TTFA don't seem to mind that they're effectively forcing these players to train for free due to the collapse of their industry

Nothing is forced ... they all can just not show up to train  ... if st kitts can get a league going why cant we ?

There is no comparison between St. Kitts/Nevis and Trinidad & Tobago. There are no Covid-19 cases in St. Kitts and they have established a plan to reopen for tourism. The citizens of Trinidad and Tobago citizens are so indisciplined that the Covid-19 surges would require closure for a long time. Few people want a short term sacrifice for a long term gain.

We should be trying to cap as many of our foreign youth players as possible as we have such a small pool before they get picked up by other nations. If he could play for Toronto, he at least have the potential to play for our senior team after already represented TT at the Junior level. Our administration is sleeping.

To your point, the players to be called are not novices. Bring the experienced players and adopt success to their attributes. Don't exclude them as if we have that luxury and don't insist on predetermined squarepegging in round holes.

How can we be out of foreign-based when smaller populated qualifiers are still reinforcing?

Anyone worth their salt can learn what we are playing.

Bear in mind, there is NO domestic football.
1. Not excluding no-one, but you must admit, the picking are at present slim. Do you have any sort of list of who of quality is playing at present ? Maybe we can assist TF in finding them.
2. True, but they might be confused to what that is, as we couch coaches are. And is not that we never kick lime.

Bear in mind, there is NO domestic football.

THIS 🤞🏾

Beyond that.....no domestic football for over a year.

We delude ourselves into thinking we have this abundance of football talent in T&T.

If that were truly the case, wouldn’t others recognize it and sign them to contracts?

There’s a reason that other than Levi Garcia, not a single one of our players Under 23 have been picked up by an elite foreign club.

We don't, but Mexico in our region definitely seem to have more than us, how many Mexicans getting major leagues contracts (besides the neighbourly MLS).

This is mostly true, but we will always fight an up hill battle as what clubs in their right mind send scouts to our region? We've got a collective population similar to Argentina in the Caribbean but with significantly higher costs of travel, worse infrastructure, worse coaching coaching poor FAs. Our players often go abroad via the US, random agents, and optimistic flights abroad for a trial.

That I believe explains that. Is not like were constant finalist in regional tournaments. We do have a few, but I as a foreign manager, would quicker take a chance with a championship player from the region, unless we make a tour and discover a youth with potential and get him before he spoil (Yorke eg.). The rest have to try ah thing if they can afford it. Even Latapy had to go this route, if I'm not mistaken. Especially now, what ppl hearing bout in TT football. The infamous JW, DJW and eventual NC. Ppl have they own bacchanal to deal with. How many Columbians was getting call with their cartel business. Only now they outta the regular news, some managing to see a little way. Majority of big football SA still playing at home, mind you, they have longer and stronger organizations than us, and still hardly big work. We behind them in so many ways, and evrytime, someone have a vision to take us forward, they are  embarrassed, removed or quit, and we ride on another hope to get us thru (it's how we have been). I hope one day that changes.

Oh really? Argentina has a population of 45 million.

These trini talking heads love to fool themselves into thinking we have a winning team with world class players and all we need is a top notch coach to complete the magic, when nothing could be farther from the truth. i know it’s a bitter pill to swallow but let’s face the truth and be honest here, we will always be way down in the pecking order in concacaf simply because we are a neglectful bunch who suffers from delusions of grandeur.

I hate to repeat myself over and over again, but if you’re not willing to spend on developmental schools all over the nation, top level coaching courses, develop a proper league which includes funding community stadiums and spending tons of money on promoting the league and compensating players and making the game lucrative, then we wasting time and will continue to be the boo boys of concacaf.

This is what people like colin Murray fazeer Muhammad and lasana liburd should be writing about, not the coaches performance or the teams weakness, but football being properly administrated and developed in such a way that it would be a totally justified to expect Trinidad and Tobago to beat teams like PR, jamaica, haiti, El Salvador and honduras and nothing less will suffice, but until then, we need to keep quiet because we didn’t earn that right as of yet, and we have plenty work to do before we get there.

Amen! We don't have a league. We don't have players in top leagues around the world. We don't have academies that train our youngsters. We played few International friendlies in the last four years. Our best player did not play - injured. But somehow, we must win games.

Style is one thing, this strange version of qualification requires results.

3 goals
Clean sheet

I'll take that result and on to the next. Ideal start and ideal opponent to kick off, Guyana was poor especially in that first half which we took advantage of. Let's see what the PR game brings.

Results in itself will build confidence and belief, we just need to get out of this group. If we keep the nucleus of this squad playing the cohesiveness will get better as the opposition gets more difficult.

It won't be easy but its a start.
I agree. There is just too much criticism for a team just trying to get together and getting a win. It was a good start and a confidence builder. Hopefully, as the team continues t play together they develop better chemistry and cohesion. But we cannot be too critical given the past year. Adding Molino when he is healthy would certainly help. Also, very optimistic about the younger players who got opportunities - Powder, Judah Garcia, Daniel Phillips, and Poon-Angeroon. With experience playing together and facing increasingly better teams, they will only get better. I will always support my team win or lose.
