Anbrat,
Do you honestly believe the word "Soca" is in someway a psychological hindrance to our national team's performance? The team's dissapointing performance has more to with bumbling actions of the TTFF.

When they say the Golden Age of football, They are referring mostly to club football. The crowd use to be huge. I can say I witnessed some of that. My first game was in 1966. My cousin took me to the savannah to see Malvern vs Dynamos in front the Grand Stand. People surrounded the field. The Grand Stand was full. The atmosphere was electric. I got totally hooked on football after that game. Football and cricket was King and Queen.

Zandolie,
I agree with your comment. The part about Jack instrumental in the citing of a proleague is true. But there was a fledging proleague in the late 70's/80's. He was  instumental in killing that league. I wa tiold that the support was very good. We did not have fancy stadiums, but on a Friday night you use to get big crowds. JW saw that as a threat and destroy that league. Coops can give the inside story about the league. He played and coached in it.

Football / Re: Is Premier League killing Nigerian football?
« on: July 28, 2008, 03:46:09 PM »
I think the EPL has affected Nigerian football. But the biggest factor is corruption. The country has oil/natural gas. and a huge talent pool and they can't put together a decent league. Disorganization all the way!!!

TTFF moved the games from the stadiumds to "private fields"With the exception of MLS,  Saints and Fatima football fields, all the other fields  technically belong to the government. For instance UWi,  Guaracara abd Tobago.

YES!!!! YES!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!  YES!!! Slim you suffering from Eric Williams syndrome. When he dead who we go put? We have had Robbie, Panday, Manning, chambers.

there are people quite capable of doing the job. They may  not have the international strings as Jack. But that is not the most essential criteria for being a good and effective President of TTFF. After 30 plus years we want fresh ideas.

Tony,
        Tell Keith I say hello!!!!

16738
Guys,
My name is not Alvin "Sam". The last name is correct. That is the newspaper's error. My name is Peter.

I know Keith from St. Joseph RC and you all use to lived next to Planet cinema in Curepe. We played plenty football together in the St. Joseph savannah. I lived in St. Joseph(near WASA). I saw some great matches  in the savanah between TECSA, Sir frank Worrell United, Juniors, Invaders(Eddie Hart, Tonga Lovell), Arsenal, Wanderers, Blackpool, Green Street Cavaliers.

Guys all yuh talking to the ultimate ball jumbie.

16739
Well Slim,  ask your pardner Jack, why he don't ask dthem to come back.

Wow!! Is a long time I ain't see that picture. I am in the middle row, 2nd from right. The picture is quite faded I can hardly make out some of the faces. Is it the best team? I will say one of the best.

We did well for our first Concacaf tournament. We were 3rd after Mex, Cuba. 3 teams were in the semi-finals. they pick straws. Mex. sit down for the final. We played Cuba in the only semi-final game a lost 2-0. We always wondered why we did not pick the long straw to sit down for the final and watch Cuba play Mex. in the semi-final.

Alvin and Roderick did a great job preparing us to face Costa Rica and Mex.   Lots of good players were on that team. Carter, Granville, Chinapoo, Walkes, Winty Hacket, Trevor John, Mikey Grayson, Curtis "Cedars" Murrell, Derek "Island People" Lewis. Robbie Francis(Skipper), Gerald Homer, Trevor Rudd, Ian Lakhan, Ulric Butcher, Jonathan Wills, Keith Weekes, Sati Boodhoo(meh pardner from Maturita, Arima) Sam Phillips, Reyes(both were in the army with Coops). The best thing for me about that team was the comradery that remained with us after all them years.

Probably not the best ever, but a great team. We were riding on the success of the Haiti WC team, so there was lots of pressure to perform well and I thought we delivered.
