Derrick Rose set to join Knicks after trade from Bulls

   Marc Stein
   Ian Begley

The Knicks and Bulls have agreed to a deal that will send former All-Star point guard Derrick Rose to New York, sources told ESPN.

The Knicks are sending center Robin Lopez, guard Jose Calderon and guard Jerian Grant to Chicago, which is shipping guard Justin Holiday, Rose and a 2017 second-round pick back to New York, sources said.

The Chicago Tribune first reported the deal.

ESPN reported last week that the Knicks had internal discussions recently about trading for Rose, the NBA MVP for the 2010-11 season.

Both Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek and general manager Steve Mills had said that the team was interested in upgrading their point guard position in the offseason.

Rose, 27, will be a free agent after the 2016-17 season. He averaged 16.4 points on 42.7 percent shooting and 4.7 assists in 66 games in 2015-16.

The six-year veteran has appeared in just 50 percent of the Bulls' regular-season games over the past four years because of various injuries, including two major knee surgeries.

The Bulls have scheduled a 5 p.m. ET news conference Wednesday.

Trinbago, NBA & World Basketball / 2016 NBA Finals
« on: June 02, 2016, 06:16:13 PM »
LeBron James and Stephen Curry aren't classic 'rivals.' So what?

No, Stephen Curry and LeBron James aren’t exactly “rivals” at this point. This isn’t a criticism of either player, nor is this another insipid statement on how today’s super-soft NBA has become too darn collegial for another old man’s tastes.

Nah, it’s just that they’re not there yet; presuming they’ll ever get there, as this league evolves. Even on the eve of their second consecutive Finals pairing (and possibly even after this June has finished), they just don’t strike as foes in the same way that their MVP and superstar predecessors once did. Through little fault of their own.

James and Curry were asked about as much during Wednesday’s media day, in the lead up to Thursday’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals, and both acknowledged as much:

“You guys make rivals. I think it’s great for the sport. It’s great for all sports,” he said. “I don’t think me and Steph . . . when you talk about rivalries, you talk about Carolina-Duke, you talk about Ohio State-Michigan. It’s hard to say LeBron and Steph. If there’s a smaller scale or another word for a rival.”

Curry chose to pass on all that stuff on the eve of Game 1, although he did admit to being a bit annoyed.

“I’m not in the business of ranking or debating who is what,” he said. “It’s about winning and the fact that we won a championship last year and were the last team standing, obviously is what was most important to me. Us being back here against the Cavs again, there are story lines and whatnot that as a basketball fan are pretty cool when you have two teams fighting for the same trophy once again and trying to play at a very high level to help our team get there. That’s all I’m worried about.

For the last 11 months NBA fans have guessed that LeBron and Steph would be gearing up for Round 2 by the time June, 2016 hit. That guesswork was all but assured by the time Golden State started its season with 24 straight wins, and the Cavaliers dismissed potential usurpers on its way to the top of the East by Christmas.

And yet the two just don’t give off the vibe. Which is fine.

James is just four years older than Curry, but by virtue of LeBron being given millions straight out of high school, he was able to develop his stardom while Curry (even as the son of a longtime NBA player) worked in relative anonymity until his final two years at Davidson. By the time Curry was drafted in 2009, James had already been to an NBA Finals, already won an MVP as the top player on the team with the league’s best record, and was already staring down the soap opera that would turn into his embarrassing 2009-10 free agent tour.

From there, Curry struggled to overcome injury woes and the tactical issues that dogged his first few coaches. By the time the two met in the 2015 Finals, James was working on his fifth Finals trip and fourth in a row, looking (still looking) for that third ring and first for the city of Cleveland.

They’ve played just twice since Curry’s Warriors downed LeBron’s Cavaliers in last year’s Finals. It’s true that one of those was in the presence of your family on Christmas Day and the other was a much talked-about Warrior blowout – both nationally televised affairs – but the fact remains that neither player is seen in the same room as the other all that much.

The NBA’s first great individual rivalry pitted Boston Celtics center Bill Russell and Philadelphia Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain, two big men that shared a league, conference, division, and airspace. Not only were they the game’s two biggest stars and statistical dominators, they played the same position and worked out of the same time zone – as six of the NBA’s nine teams did in 1961-62, when Wilt and Russell squared off against each other 19 times in one season, counting the playoffs.

Nineteen times. Counting last year’s Finals, Stephen Curry has played 15 games against LeBron James since the current MVP was drafted into the NBA.

OK, it’s a novelty then. The league has changed, Celtics games start at 7:30 local time and Warriors games (now played in Oakland) start at around the same time workers in Boston’s arena start sweeping up the aisles following that night’s contest. There are 30 teams, which means even Conference-sharers only play each other four times a season, if that.

On top of all this, Russell and Chamberlain both played the same position – something the wispy-winged Curry will never be able to claim as he looks up to the Mack Truck With Skills that is LeBron James. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, though they technically did not play the same position, still at least shared similar skill sets.

Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing would seem to have the same problem, but that hardly got in the way of their natural rivalry. The two played each other just once in college, during the 1982 NCAA Championship game, but CBS made a point to pit two struggling Knicks and Bulls squads (Chicago was 13-12 at the time, New York 6-20) as showcase Christmas Day game in 1986. The two went on to face each other during five times (and it likely would have been more, had things not gotten nasty, or had Jordan not retired in 1993) in the Eastern Conference playoffs with Patrick’s Knicks failing to take a single series.

Media and, clearly, the NBA helped prop that pairing up from the outset, though, pitting two major cities against each other. Curry’s Golden State team doesn’t even have a technical city on its uniform, and it wasn’t a championship contender until last season. James’ Cleveland outfit plays in the 17th-largest media market in the NBA, and he wasn’t even a member of the Cavaliers from 2010 through 2014.

On the home fronts, Golden State’s chief rival would seem to be a Los Angeles Clippers team that they clearly do not like. That back and forth gives us fodder to consume in December, but due to injury and some on-court slip-ups, those two franchises haven’t seen each other in the postseason since 2014. LeBron’s main rival would either be former teammate and NBA best friend Dwyane Wade, a man he’s never faced in the playoffs, or a Chicago team that James has dispatched four out of four times in the postseason. The Bulls didn’t even make it to the playoffs in the East this year.

Stephen Curry and LeBron James just don’t have a rivalry in the historical sense, and considering the interest and ratings behind their pairing, it’s hard to argue that this is somehow a bad thing. This year’s NBA Finals will once again make a mark for the highest championship ratings since Michael Jordan’s last turn at the wheel, a remarkable accomplishment for a culture that has cut the cord and/or slid over to their computers or tablets. In an era full of planned-out binge watching, people are still making plans for Thursday and Sunday night, and how to take it in live.

From there, the two will play two-to-five more games against each other. They’ll meet each other again on Christmas, wearing silly uniforms, and then show up at some point on TNT deep into the dead of winter during 2016-17.

And that’s just fine. Somehow, in a sport obsessed with the work of the individual, Golden State and Cleveland have become the real attraction.

Golden State starts playoffs with a rout of Houston

http://espn.go.com/blog/golden-state-warriors/post/_/id/1698/golden-state-starts-playoffs-with-a-rout-of-houston

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Notes from the Golden State Warriors' 104-78 win over the Houston Rockets in Game 1 in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs:

The Rockets started out with Trevor Ariza at power forward and Corey Brewer at small forward. They decided to go small to match Golden State's speed.

It took over 2 1/2 minutes for the Rockets to score their first points.

At the 6:31 mark, Stephen Curry scuffled with Patrick Beverley. It seemed, after reaching in, that Beverley did not readily unlock arms with Curry, prompting a shove from the MVP. Both players received technicals.

It was 18-6 Warriors with 4:44 left in the first, eventually leading to a 33-15 Warriors lead to end the quarter. The Rockets' offense got destroyed in the first half.

Dwight Howard and Beverley got mixed up on two rebounds in a row. Rebounds had a tendency to bounce off Howard’s hands in this game.

Curry unleashed a 28-foot transition bomb over Harden. He was in peak form in the first half, scoring 24 points. That is, until what happened next.

Curry missed a push shot with 2:12 left in the half. As he turned to get back on defense, he appeared to injure his right foot. On the next dead ball, with 1:07 remaining, Shaun Livingston subbed in for Curry, who eventually limped to the locker room.

Curry returned to action at the beginning of the third quarter, didn’t look right, was quickly subbed out and headed back to the locker room. His night finished right there at 20 minutes, scoring 24 points on 13 shots, with a plus-28.

The Warriors’ lead started to ebb after Curry’s exit until they turned the game around by punishing Houston’s awful transition defense. Draymond Green was key during the Curry-less minutes.

Klay Thompson, who has had his playoff struggles, wasn’t in top form. He finished 4-of-14 for 16 points.

Perhaps Thompson was just extra focused on the defensive end. In last year’s playoff series, he had trouble containing Harden. This time, he was patient and didn’t get caught on Harden’s fakes. Harden finished with only 17 points, six turnovers, and registered a minus-27. Most notably, Harden didn’t earn a single free throw.

Curry returned to the bench in the third quarter, but couldn’t quite lobby his way back into the game.

(Reuters) - Derrick Rose, the 2011 National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player, is being sued by a former girlfriend who claims he and two friends drugged and gang-raped her in 2013, TMZ reported.

Rose's accuser, identified only as Jane Doe, said she and the three-time All-Star Chicago Bulls guard dated from 2011 to 2013, the celebrity news website reported.

In August 2013, she said, Rose and two friends invited her to Rose's home in Beverly Hills, California, where they slipped a drug into her drink with the aim of raping her, TMZ reported.

The woman said she escaped the house, but later that night, Rose and his friends broke into her apartment and gang-raped her while she was incapacitated, it said.

TMZ said Rose's accuser, who is seeking unspecified damages, said she waited for two years to file the suit because she was “ashamed and embarrassed” of what happened. It did not say where the suit was filed.

A spokeswoman for Rose said in a statement the "plaintiff’s allegations are completely false and without any factual basis."

"This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete," the statement said. "Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years."

"We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous."

Rose, who missed a large portion of last season due to a knee injury, averaged 17.7 points, 4.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 51 games.

"We just learned about this matter and do not know all the facts," the Bulls said in a statement. "It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."

Darryl Dawkins, whose board-shattering dunks earned him the moniker "Chocolate Thunder" and helped pave the way for breakaway rims, has died. He was 58.

The Lehigh County, Pennsylvania coroner's office said Dawkins died Thursday morning at a hospital. Later Thursday, Dawkins' family said a heart attack was the cause of death. Officials said an autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

"Darryl touched the hearts and spirits of so many with his big smile and personality, ferocious dunks, but more than anything, his huge, loving heart," his family said in a statement. "His family, wife Janice, children Dara, Tabitha, Nicholas and Alexis, along with countless family, friends, and fans, all mourn his loss. More than anything Darryl accomplished in his basketball career as the inimitable 'Chocolate Thunder,' he was most proud of his role and responsibility as a husband and father."

Dawkins spent parts of 14 seasons in the NBA with Philadelphia, New Jersey, Utah and Detroit. He averaged 12 points and 6.1 rebounds in 726 career regular-season games.

"A great man, entertainer, athlete and ferocious dunker," former NBA guard Kevin Johnson wrote on Twitter. "He will be missed but not forgotten."

He was selected No. 5 in the 1975 NBA draft by the 76ers. His "Chocolate Thunder" nickname, he often said, was given to him by legendary singer Stevie Wonder — who is blind.
View gallery

"People don't want to believe it. ... A guy who never saw me gave me the name Chocolate Thunder," Dawkins said in a 2012 interview.

Tributes poured in quickly from across the league, including from the 76ers.

"Simply put, Darryl Dawkins was beloved-by his family, friends, former teammates and his fans all over the globe," 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil said. "His endearing charm, infectious smile and unparalleled sense of humor will be sorely missed. 'Chocolate Thunder' will always have a special place in our hearts. His family is in our thoughts and prayers."

Dawkins was as revered off the court as he was on it. He remained enormously popular after his playing days were done, even during his stint as a member of the Harlem Globetrotters. He would name his dunks — the "look out below," the "yo-mama" and the "rim wrecker" among them — and often boasted that he hailed from the "Planet Lovetron."

Injuries plagued him late in his NBA career, and he went overseas for several more years to play primarily in the Italian league.

"You were one of my favorite players of all time," Houston center Dwight Howard posted Thursday on Instagram under a photo of Dawkins dunking in a game for the 76ers. "You were very inspirational to a lot of young players. Thank u for the long talks and great memories. I can't believe that you're gone. But you are in a better place. You were the originator of the dunk."

Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott was arrested on felony drug charges on July 30, per Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Vivlamore added that marijuana and MDMA were the drugs found on Scott's person.

Vivlamore reported Scott posted his $8,100 bond July 31, and had a court date pending. Scott faces up to 25 years in prison, per Vivlamore.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, Scott was the passenger of a vehicle that led authorities on a chase:

The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said Scott was in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that fled a traffic stop on Interstate 85 around 9 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said they were attempting to pull the car over for following too close to another vehicle.  Speeds reached up to 98 mph before eventually stopping two miles down the road, according to deputies.

After the chase concluded, Scott and the driver, Antonn Imhotep Scott, admitted to possessing drugs, and the authorities located them upon a search of the sport utility vehicle.

Vivlamore reported "there was 35.2 grams of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA in vehicle." Vivlamore added Scott "admitted all drugs belonged to him, not his brother. Brother was unaware and took responsibility."

Scott, a 6'8" power forward, played 68 games for the Hawks in 2014-15. He averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds a night for the Southeast Division champions.

Vivlamore tweeted the Hawks are "aware of the situation involving Mike Scott but have no comment at this time."

Goran Dragic agrees to 5-year, $90 million deal to stay with Heat

Dragic will indeed remain with the club that traded multiple first-round picks to acquire him in February.

Goran Dragic has agreed to a five-year, $90 million deal to stay with the Miami Heat, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. That is just below a maximum contract for Dragic. He will have a player option after the fourth year.

Dragic was eligible to receive a maximum of 30 percent of the salary cap in his first year, which would come out to around $110 million over five seasons. Instead, he'll take a slight discount, perhaps to help Miami re-sign Dwyane Wade to a comfortable number. Wade opted out after Miami asked him to take less multiple times and is a threat to go elsewhere, but having Dragic in the fold at less than the maximum may convince Wade to return.

Regardless, the Heat are now expected to pay a hefty luxury tax bill if Wade returns, thanks to the large contracts of Chris Bosh, Dragic and Luol Deng.

Dragic has been planning for his free agency since last February, when he asked the Phoenix Suns to trade him to either the Knicks, Lakers or Heat. Pat Riley ended up making the move and Dragic played out the season's final three months in Miami. Dragic had a player option he could have exercised, which would have allowed him to play one more season with Miami under his current contract. Instead he elected to opt out so that he could sign a larger long-term deal this summer.

After being named the NBA's Most Improved Player in 2014, Dragic saw his numbers fall last season following the Phoenix Suns' addition of point guard Isaiah Thomas. Dragic was on the floor for a similar amount of minutes, but was never happy or comfortable with the situation. Dragic's scoring output fell from 20 to 16, though his field goal percentage remained right around 50 percent. Dragic seemed happier in Miami, but he was unable to lead the Heat to the playoffs. Part of that was due to a back injury that kept him out of a few games.

Still, Dragic is the best point guard the Heat have had since Tim Hardaway and re-signing him was a must. He gives them insurance in case Dwayne Wade leaves, or goes down. At this point in their careers, Dragic might actually be the better shot creator. He's a relentless attacker and an adept finisher at the rim. Few players drive to the basket more than Dragic, and he converted on an incredible 55 percent of those drives, according to the NBA.com player tracking data.

With Dragic, 29, now signed, the Heat have a point guard in his prime who they can build a team around. In the lowly East, he also makes them an immediate playoff contender.

Trinbago, NBA & World Basketball / UTT and NBFTT sign MOU
« on: April 02, 2015, 07:53:58 PM »
ASPIRING YOUNG basketball players can expect be among the first to benefit from a collaboration between the National Basketball Federation (NBFTT) and the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) that will allow for the university’s facilities and expertise to assist in the short and long-term development of the game in the country. Those ideas were formalised by the signing yesterday of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the UTT’s Chaguanas Campus.

“Home-grown, but world-known,” was how Minister Karim described his view of UTT’s future, revealing it was only the first of eight such MOUs he expects to be penning in the next few months. He listed the sports of Tennis, Netball, Cycling and Swimming among the likely National Sporting Organisations that would be agreeing on similar collaborations. Noting that it is now an accredited institution, the minister speculated on the possibility of UTT organising visits by US College Basketball teams, in order to expose local players to higher levels of competition and raise interest in the sport locally.

Excited at the prospect, Garvin Warwick, president of the NBFTT revealed that the most immediate task involving the UTT will be the conduct of nationwide screening for the national Under-14 and Under-16 squads, in preparation for the regional Junior Championships. The event is to be staged in Puerto Rico later this year, but the dates have not been set. With his executive now one year into office, Warwick also indicated the federation’s intent to “return to zonal basketball in all nine zones.”

Aside from identifying talent, the UTT’s facilities will also be used in the training and preparation of teams, with the help of the university’s technical staff; the man who heads the UTT Basketball programme is the widely-experienced former national coach, Joseph “Lenny” Guy. Looking even further ahead, it is expected that the UTT will also help in the training and development of coaches, as well as the development of opportunities for Basketball scholarships abroad.

The UTT currently has some 110 student/athletes from ten sporting disciplines enrolled in its Academy of Sport.

Football / Tobago entrust reins to young coach

Tobago entrust reins to young coach.
By Ian Prescott (Express).

For a long time, Tobago have been dependent on the coaching skill of Bertille St Clair, who led Trinidad and Tobago to a 2000 semi-final berth, its best-ever showing at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Thursday’s international friendly, which was won 3-0 by Guadeloupe, gave Tobago a chance to expose a new coach to international football. Given the job was Marlon Toppin, a former Goal City footballer, who led Roxborough Lakers to a close second spot to Goal City in the Tobago Premier Divison last season.

“We have a young coach, Marlon Toppin. He has been working with Roxborough Lakers, but it’s his first time in charge of a Tobago team. So, the Guadeloupe match also gave him exposure and the chance to grow as a coach as well,” stated Everton Alfred, general secretary of the Tobago Football Association (TFA).

Given that they did not have much of a preparation, Toppin had Tobago playing quite well, particularly in the first half, against Guadeloupe. Toppin gave almost every player a run, using an entirely different team in either half. And if the TFA has its way, Toppin may get a few more chances to coach Tobago in other friendly internationals.

“This is one of the few ways our coaches get to take a step further and learn the game at an international level,” Alfred added.

Not that Tobago is trying to break away from the Trinidad and Tobago national team. Instead, Alfred thinks Tobago players need exposure apart from a T&T national team, and a few games separate might give T&T national coach Stephen Hart the chance to scout the talent on the sister isle.

And Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) apparently have no problem with Tobago playing on its own team from time to time. In fact, TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee, who is also Mayor of Port of Spain, sees it as a partnership.

“I know there are a lot of good players in Tobago and at times they are not known, they are not seen, and all the dynamics. We have to put an end to that,’’ declared Tim Kee.

“So, when we got the games against Guadeloupe, we offered Tobago the opportunity to handle it. We had at times assisted them with how to organise it, but its all part of my promise to involve Tobago in the international football.”

Among the players Tobago fielded against Guadeloupe were Stokely Vale’s Tyronne Manning, one of the top five National Super League players of 2011; Akini Ferguson, last year’s top-score with Tobago champions Goal City; his brother Kerlon Ferguson (Goal City), a former player with 2010 T&T Pro Legue runners-up T&TEC; defender Omar Charles, who played Pro League football with both Central FC and Point Fortin Civic in 2013-2014; Gem Gordon, a 2013 trialist with England club Walsall, who played for Pro League champions W Connection; and McKenzie Denoon, the 2013 keeper for Tobago schoolboys football champions Speyside, who came on and made several good second half saves.

Since the demise of Tobago United, the sister isle does not have a professional team, so Tobago players have to come to Trinidad to play club football at the highest level. Among them are Rundell Winchester and Trevin Caesar, who a few months ago were playing for Central FC and North East Stars, but are now playing for clubs in the Belgium and US, respectively. Darren “Chucky” Mitchell is also Tobago-born, but now plays for Central FC.

“There is an exodus of players leaving once again, going to Trinidad because they want to ply their trade at the best level,” stated Peter Granville, coach of the now defunct Tobago United, Tobago’s only Pro League team. “But you never know what will happen in the next couple of years.”

What about Track & Field / Silver snatched

Silver snatched

.......from Jehue Gordon’s coach

Communication was made with the Office of the President about arrangements for Dr Ian Hypolite to receive the Chaconia medal silver. The only problem is that the Ministry of Sport has since informed the intended recipient that the national award has been rescinded.
“It is embarrassing,” Dr Ian Hypolite, coach of 400 metres hurdles world champion Jehue Gordon told the Sunday Express yesterday.
Today’s, Independence Day celebrations will see three recipients receiving national medals for their contribution to sport. Female cricketer Anisa Mohammed receives the Hummingbird Medal bronze; athletics administrator Clyde Forde gets the Medal of Merit silver and retired policeman Earl Skeete, the Public Service Medal of Merit bronze. Promised the Chaconia silver medal by former sport minister Anil Roberts a year ago, Dr Hypolite, however is not among today’s awardees.
After winning 400m World Championship gold last year, then Sport Minister Roberts announced that Gordon would receive Chaconia Medal, a house, and $.8m. Roberts also announced rewards for Dr Hypolite
“His local coach, Dr Ian Hypolite, has been recommended in next year’s award ceremony for the Chaconia Silver Medal and shall receive $200,000 this year for his contribution to coaching Jehue,” Roberts was reported as saying.
Yesterday, however, Dr Hypolite confirmed that this month, he received a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, informing him that he would no longer receive the national award.
“In August 2014, I received a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, in an envelope labelled Private and Confidential dated July 30, 2014, advising that the award to me of the Chaconia Medal silver by a decision of Cabinet in “subparagraph “a”, “iii” of minute # 2453 of August 29, 2013” had been rescinded. No reason was given for the rescission.
“The obvious question that my family, as well as my friends and I have had to consider is what did I do in the interim to become undeserving?,” he said by letter yesterday. “I have had to deal with the public announcement of an award and a “private and confidential” rescission of the said award. Therein, lies my embarrassment.”
Hypolite revealed that he did receive the cash award, and had communication from the Office of the President about the ceremony to receive the Chaconia Medal silver, until the latest turn of events.
Further, Hypolite stated he never solicited the award in the first place, and even now is not doing so.

Trinidad and Tobago national player dies in France

National player, 6-9 Devougn Lamont, suddenly passed away last Thursday in Lyons, France. Lamont played with the Trinidad & Tobago men team which defeated 10th world ranked Puerto Rico in the Pre-Olympic Centrobasket 2010 tournament in the Dominican Republic.

According to reliable sources, Lamont suffered a cardiac arrest following a training session with Beaujolais Basket. He recently re-signed with Beaujolais Basket to play in the French NM2 league. Last season he was one of the league top players averaging 17.0ppg and 9.33rpg. Prior to France, he played in at San Isidro San Francisco in Argentina where he averaged 11.9ppg and 3.9rpg in 30 games. In addition, Lamonts career also included successful stints in Japan, Mexico, Venezuela, and in the US with the ABA league.

Prior to his pro career, Lamont had an impressive US collegiate career with Marin Junior College averaging 22ppg and 11.3rpg in his year of the 2003/04 season. While at California State University, Monterey Bay, he averaged 17.8ppg and 7rpg during 2004-2006. Lamont started his career at St. Benedicts College in Trinidad before migrating to the US.

Lamont passed away doing what he loved best, playing basketball. He will be best remembered, not only for his affectionate smile, but also positive attitude in the locker room and huddle. According to Wendell Carter, one of his former national teammate, Lamont would say: Come on guys, lets stick together and stay positive.

Following the news of his sudden passing there has been un-going postings of condolences and memories on his facebook page from his former teammates and friends at all levels. He was a hard working player and very humble guy who was always contended with the role and responsibilities assigned to him. Perfect role model!

Our condolences goes out to his family, Fiona O'Sullivan, Beaujolais Basketball, ex-teammates and the National Basketball Federation of Trinidad & Tobago.
RIP DEVOUGN LAMONT!!
