Warner off for meeting with Leo & players in London.
By: Shaun Fuentes.

Special Advisor Jack Warner along with General Secretary Richard Groden and Team manager Bruce Aanensen will arrive in London on Saturday morning to hold further discussions with Members of the “Soca Warriors” based in the UK on their earnings for having qualified for the 2006 World Cup.
Warner, the main financier of the team, felt it was necessary to meet face to face with the players to discuss the settling of financial compensation which is coming from the TTFF.
They will meet on Sunday evening in London with the five-man representative followed by a meeting with the other available players based in the UK who were part of the team during the 2006 qualifying campaign.
Warner will also meet with head coach Leo Beenhakker and assistant Wim Rijsbergen on Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel, Heathrow to discuss plans for training camp and warm up internationals.
“The fact remains that the team and its preparation for what it does in Germany is the most important thing and we must ensure that these guys are well taken care of,” Warner said.
Beenhakker and Rijsbergen have been in England for the past few days looking at possible sites for a training camp leading up to the World Cup in June. He visited Colliers Park on Friday, home venue for Dennis Lawrence’s Wrexham. Agent Mike Berry was also in attendance.
“He spoke to me for a brief and seemed impressed with the facilities but he will continue to do his homework,” Lawrence told TTFF Media. “It was good to see him again for the new year and like the rest of us, he appears to be in good spirits ahead of our next training camp.”
Beenhakker and Rijsbergen will arrive in the country next week and Beenhakker is expected to finalize arrangements for T&T’s build up. He will oversee a few sessions here before returning to Europe later this month while Rijsbergen will stay on to continue sessions with recently appointed assistant Anton Corneal.
Corneal carried out a session for US-based College players at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence on Thursday. The main purpose of the session was to look at players capable of representing T&T at the Under 23 and even senior teams. These players were not part of the Goal 2014 training camp last week.
“Generally we got the opportunity to see players who we haven’t seen in a year or in some cases two years,” Corneal told TTFF Media. “It gave us a chance to see how they compare with the home-based players from our schools and Pro League teams and I think I can safely say that we have some prospects for the national team at least some time in the future.” A video recording of the session was done in order for Beenhakker to have a look.
“He (Beenhakker) will be the one to make the final decisions with regards to what plans are put in place for sessions locally and as to which players are recalled or looked at in the future,” Corneal added.

The players looked at on Thursday included:

Kyle Cupid (Liberty College), Terrance Williams (Mayville State University), Julius James (University of Connecticut), Dean Logan (University of Mobile), Judah Hernandez (Florida International University), Frederick Douglas (Philadelphia University), Stephen Cruikshank (Southern Connecticut State University), Darryl Roberts ( Liberty College), Abiola Clarance (Incarnate Word University), Keeron Benito (University of South Florida), Regan Tommy (St Thomas University), Dale Perez (Mayville State University), Anthony Noreiga (George Mason University), Osei Telesford (Liberty University and  Mbwana Johnson (University of Buffalo).

Trinidad's PM to intervene in World Cup ticket sales.
By: Loren Brown (AP).
[/size]

Trinidad (AP) -- Trinidad's prime minister said Thursday his government will intervene in the sale of World Cup tickets amid allegations of cronyism and price gouging against a leading soccer official.
Prime Minister Patrick Manning's comments came in response to allegations published by the Trinidad and Tobago Express charging that the sole agency selling World Cup tickets in the country was owned by the family of FIFA vice president Jack Warner, a senior adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association.
That connection prompted allegations of unfair practices among some fans eager to watch their national team makes its first World Cup appearance at this year's tournament in Germany.
"The government has to respond to all of the calls we've been having from the national community, people who have supported football from the inception to now who wish to go to Germany and are prepared to make their own arrangements," Manning said.
The Warner family's agency, Simpaul Travel Service Ltd., offers a $4,785 travel package that includes tickets for three games, hotel accommodation for 12 nights and team souvenirs, according to Simpaul's Web site. Tickets cannot be purchased separately.
Fans who don't want the package deal may purchase tickets directly from FIFA. The most expensive tickets for all three of Trinidad's first-round games would total $363, according to the FIFA Web site. But the tickets are sold only to winners of a FIFA ticket lottery.
Manning said he was waiting for a report on the matter from Roger Boynes, Trinidad's minister of sports and youth affairs.
Warner acknowledged in a Tuesday news conference that he owned Simpaul, but said the criticism was personal and political.
"It is not a crime to be successful, even for people like me," Warner said.
Warner also denied Simpaul has exclusive rights to the country's allotment of World Cup tickets.
"No World Cup tickets of any category or price has been assigned to Simpauls or to any other organization and/or person in Trinidad and Tobago," he said.
Some fans were angry about the ticket situation.
"This reeks of cronyism. There is clearly a conflict of interest here," said Trevor Sebastian of Chagunas, 35, who owns a clothing store. "Why should someone with such a high position in FIFA be the only one selling tickets?"

Others said the price was too high.

"I will just stay home and watch the game on TV," said Elaine Pickering of Arina, a 25-year-old office clerk. Trinidad's Soca Warriors play Sweden, England and Paraguay in the first round of the World Cup, which starts June 9.
Trinidad, home to just one million people, will be the least populated country taking part in the 32-nation tournament. It is the fourth Caribbean team to reach the World Cup, following Cuba in 1938, Haiti in 1974 and Jamaica in 1998.

Warner to accept Government help after all.
By: Mark Pouchet (Express).

As he did after his public spat with UNC leader Basdeo Panday, FIFA vice president Jack Warner changed his tune yesterday to accept financial assistance from the Government after stating that he was prepared to go without it the previous day.
On Tuesday he had labelled the behaviour of Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes as "boyish" in response to repeated calls from the Minister on the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF) to provide his Ministry with a detailed budget for the national senior football team's preparation for Germany World Cup 2006, a budget originally promised to the Ministry after the December 9 Germany World Cup 2006 draw.
Boynes said yesterday that the T&TFF, represented by a much more sedate Warner and that organisation's president Oliver Camps, had produced a $55 million budget at a closed-door meeting lasting "a few hours" which touched on the role and function of the Government in the team's preparation.
However, Boynes advised that the T&TFF would have some "minor adjustments" to make, namely the inclusion of the technical staff salaries which Warner had pegged at $800,000 a month last October. Without offering a firm date, the Minster said the T&TFF is to re-submit the budget before it proceeds to Cabinet for approval, with adjustments that will make it more "holistic", according to Warner.
It was not the first time that Warner has adopted a new stance on an issue. Before the start of the 2006 World Cup final round campaign, Warner had called Yorke a cancer to the game and claimed that the current Sydney FC footballer would never play for Trinidad and Tobago again.
And Warner's penchant for switching positions stayed true yesterday.
"Yesterday was yesterday," the UNC deputy leader said, in response to a question about his change of position on accepting Government funding. "Today is today... so whatever is in the best national interest, I'm for it."
The budget presented to the Minister includes potential income of $25 million, $5 million of which is to be derived from "sponsorship and other things", according to Warner.
It also includes a net grant of US$3.384 million from FIFA for Trinidad and Tobago's qualification to the Cup as well as other monies expected to be gleaned from franchise fees and national team sponsor Adidas.
Asked if the budget included an allocation to honour players, Boynes said they were still awaiting that final figure from the T&TFF.
"We are yet to get that figure from the T&TFF. We understand that it is to include all category of players as well as players who started the campaign, but the T&TFF will have to guide us on that figure and we await their word," he said.
Boynes had also indicated that Prime Minister Patrick Manning was hoping to have discussions with team captain Dwight Yorke as soon as possible to look at ways of suitably honouring the players for their historic feat.
In stark contrast to his fiery mood at Tuesday's news conference to address the conflict of interest issues between his travel agency and the T&TFF raised in a three-part series in the Express, Warner was much more reserved.
"I'm pleased with how the meeting went," he said before adding jokingly that he was "pleased and thrilled and to tell the truth after yesterday I didn't expect to meet with the Minister today".
On the expenditure side, Warner told the media that three camps to London, Austria and Germany, respectively, would amount to some $23 million.
Asked when World Cup tickets would be made available to T&T nationals, Warner said that the T&TFF are to submit a proposal to FIFA today for the first time for this country's allocation which is already oversubscribed with some 7,000 to 8,000 requests for World Cup tickets made to the T&TFF.

St Clair, Nakhid to share in $M bonus.
T&T Football Federation advisor Jack Warner yesterday reversed his position on accepting government’s offer to financially assist the T&T World Cup football team at a news conference yesterdayat the Ministry of Sports on Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain.
Warner also announced that the T&T Football Federation will receive six million swiss francs or US$4,702,128 from FIFA for qualifying for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.
Of that six million, 21 per cent will be deducted in German taxes while another five per cent will be deducted in insurance fees which leaves the T&TFF with US$3,479,574.
Of that figure 42 per cent or US$1,461,421.38 will be shared among the players, while the remaining 58 per cent (US$2,018,152.60) will go towards the T&TFF.
The news conference was called by Sports Minister Roger Boynes, after he received from the T&TFF the budget for the national football team’s preparations for the World Cup campaign which runs from June 9 - July 9, later this year.
Asked to explain his turnaround, Warner said, “All I would say is that yesterday is yesterday, and today is today. We have realised that there is a bigger picture here and there is much to be gain by us working together.”
It was also announced that Bertille St Clair, former national senior team football coach and David Nakhid, an assistant, were among members of the Soca Warriors technical staff in line to share in the US$1,461,421.38 bonus to be distributed by the T&T Football Federation.
St Clair was axed as team coach after only three matches in the final round of the World Cup campaign and replaced by Dutch-man Leo Beenhakker while Nakhid was dismissed as an assistant coach just ahead of T&T’s World Cup play-off matches with Bahrain.
But despite not being part of the team when it actually qualified both men will be among those to benefit after playing a part in the successful campaign.
Other members of the previous staff who will share in the team earnings are manager Richard Braithwaite, Ron La Forest and former captains, Angus Eve and Reynold Carrington.
Questioned as to how many players would be privy to sharing in the bonuses of the team Warner said that it could as much as 55 players and 15 officials.
“It will not be wise to forget those who started the “Journey to Germany” because they were the ones who got the team rolling, added Warner.
Following the meeting Boynes said, “This is another historic day in T&T after spending a few hours dealing with a matter that is very dear to all of us in T&T, that’s World Cup football.
The meeting today was a follow up to our previous meeting which was held on November 24, 2005 where we discussed the role of the Ministry and the branding of the team.
“At that meeting it was stated that the full details of the Soca Warriors budget for the Germany 2006 campaign will follow after the draw on December 9.
We have since pass the time of the draw and we now have with us a full detailed budget. We have been shown the preliminary details of what is needed and after going it over we informed the T&T Football Federation that some minor adjustments need to be made by tomorrow before it is re-submitted to me on behalf on behalf on the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Asked what are some of the minor adjustments to be made, the Sports Minister said: The coaching payments. We need to present a holistic proposal and we have asked for the payment of the coaches from January 2005 up until the December 2005 to be included in the presentation. After this the re-submitted budget will then be presented to the cabinet for them to deliberate on it.

Budget of TT$50, 221,925.44 to be increased.

AS a consequence of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs requesting the bonuses that will be given to members of the previous staff before the arrival of Leo Beenhakker and his Dutch assistants the overall budget that will be re-submitted to government is expected to increase.
The original figure presented to Minister Boynes and members of the Sports Company of T&T (SCOTT) headed by its chairman Gerrard Ferreira was TT$50, 221,925.44 but that figure will now come close to TT$55 million according to Warner.
Included in those expenses are three camps in Europe suggested by coach Beenhakker which will cost an overall TT$22, 767, 432.
A further breakdown of the figures shows that the camp in Germany will cost $9,179, 269.42; Austria Camp - TT$6, 783, 090.02 and in London $6, 805, 073.02.
In addition administrative cost to the T&TFF is totalled at TT$ 9, 013, 942.98 . Local Training - $1,012, 725. Bonus payments at TT$13, 977,825 and a budget of TT$3, 450,000 for friendly International matches.
During the meeting which lasted almost two hours Boynes said that the way of rewarding the members of the Soca Warriors team was also discussed.
However the Prime Minister (Patrick Manning) has indicated that he wants a discussion with the team captain and we will all be willing to facilitate this as quickly as possible.

Warner turns a new page.

In his brief address, FIFA vice-president and T&TFF special advisor, in a more quiet mood than he was at a media briefing where he chastised Express reporter Lasana Liburd for what he deemed were attack on his character and that of his family said that he had put that episode behind him.
Regarding his angry reply to the three-part series written by the reporter, Warner said:
Asked what got him so worked up in the press conference held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Wednesday the Concacaf boss said: “When a guy can call my home and annoy my sick wife and continue to ring her three to four times before Christmas it gets under my skin.
The T&TFF financier also said he was surprised that both parties could have come to an understanding.
“I’m surprised because I not think that we would have been here, but we have been able to look at the bigger picture.
“I’m pleased and thrilled with what has happened and this can only augur well for the future.
Contrary to what Warner described Boynes as acting that was “Boyishly, the FIFA vice-president had to eat his words somewhat as he praised the Sports Minister for showing a great level of maturity in dealing with the matter.

JW please get your figures straight..now the whole world is watching you being "reserved" and smiling like there was no yesterday....can't fool all the ppl all the time..now please stick to one story and tell us who we playing and when we tickets avail..ah see you say it done over subscribed with 7000-8000 request.. ah thought we have close to 9000 allocated to us?
Big Up to TnT Football!

read back a little. Warner said in the Express that the cost would have been 15 Million US. then he said maybe 30 million US.

The Gov't don't want to be on the wrong side ah history come election time.

Boynes probably had ah nightmare the night before where he see Jack on ah podium during elections singing, "I Did It My Way" stuttering and all.

Asked when World Cup tickets would be made available to T&T nationals, Warner said that the T&TFF are to submit a proposal to FIFA today for the first time for this country's allocation which is already oversubscribed with some 7,000 to 8,000 requests for World Cup tickets made to the T&TFF

why does man keep "biting de hand dat feed dem?'

So watch this game of chess: Your move now Jack!!! Yuh trying to  come off like yuh appeasing the electorates; now the governmnet sensing that there maybe pockets of public sentiments  makes an offer to satisfy your demands. what are you going to do now Jack? reduce the price of tickets and put more in a neutral clearing centre which could be accessible to the public at a reasonable price? That may get you one up again? then what? the governmnet will subsidize travelling cost for all citizens wishing to travel to GermANY? AND SO THE BEAT GOES ON..........
