TnT's Heavyweight- Manswell
« on: April 16, 2006, 07:28:56 PM »
Found it a bit strange that no one has any posts about the "Big Cat" in any forum..... What is the reason for this. Is it that no one thinks that he is any good, or Kurt Sinette for that matter...both of them are undefeated and quite frankly unmatched in the region. I have not seen them fight but from what I read these guys have potential even though time might not be on their side.... Can any one give some feedback

Rastaman,

when Manswell and Sinnette started off their careers, they were doing quite well in the first two years. Buxo Potts was their Manager/Promoter.

However, they then needed to go to another level and there was no money in TT to bring down those kind of opponents.

Manswell joined Don King's camp two years ago and it did almost nothing for him . It didn't help when he won a split deicision over a virtual unknown opponent. He just tried to get out of contract with DK to fight the European Champion but was unsuccessful.

Yes thet are a bit long in the tooth now b but in boxing if you don't have the connections - good luck.

They are talking about KS fighting for the C'wealth Crown in JUne. Are they serious? The man is about 34 and they want to wait six months for his next big fight. He should use the Cbbean title he has now and try to parlay it into a bigger fight eg. against a big name fighter from Canada or England. These guys need to move now. Potts has tried his best. But it seems that there are those in the in the TTBBC who have a problem with him.

Stiverne stops Manswell in the 2nd round

Stiverne stops Manswell in the 2nd round
By Jim Dower (boxingnews24.com)

Hard-hitting Hatian heavyweight Bermane Stiverne destroyed Kertson Manswell (20-1, 15 KO’s) in a 2nd round on Saturday night on the undercard of the Devon Alexander vs. Timothy Bradley bout at the Silverdome, in Pontiac, Michigan. Stiverne, a huge puncher but plagued by limited size, opened up with some tremendous shots in the opening round.

To his credit, Manswell, 34, took the shots well until the 2nd, when he was put down by a nice right hand from the flat-footed Stiverne. Manswell got back to his feet but looked badly hurt. The fight resumed with Stiverne teeing off on Manswell as he stood against the ropes. Stiverne the finished Manswell off with a beautiful left hook to the head that sent Manswell down for the 2nd and final time in the round. It was a good win for Stiverne, but unfortunately he doesn’t have the height, reach or size to really compete against the better heavyweights in the division.

Look de knock out here.

Manswell wasn't looking that bad and the commentators even say it was shaping up into a good fight.

But he has to learn to keep that fu^%^&% left hand up and use some foot movement.
Pretty devastating KO.

In the 80s we had Jap King Fook, Jack Ramoutarsing and Anand Persard. We eh have one ass now.

Strangely the PNM Govt used to give good money to boxing. But for some reason there was a falling out between Promoters and the Board as to where the money should go.

Manswell to fight in TT on June 25
« Reply #16 on: May 24, 2011, 06:55:01 AM »
By Kern De Freitas

Story Created: May 24, 2011 at 12:33 AM ECT

(Story Updated: May 24, 2011 at 12:33 AM ECT )

A "coalition" for a more cooperative approach to boxing.

That is how boxer-cum-promoter Floyd Trumpet has described the union of Floyd Trumpet Promotions with Unified Promoters to put on a June 25 card dubbed: "A Night of Champions".

The "Fighting Postman", as Trumpet is known in the boxing world, is set to fight Nick Casal of the USA.

The card will also feature top local heavyweight Kertson Manswell, Ria Ramnarine and Kirt Sinnette, as well as Lorissa Rivas and up-and-coming Prince Lee Isidore.

At yesterday's media conference to announce the event at Ma Pau Members Club on Ariapita Avenue, Port of Spain, Giovanni Potts, who heads Unified Promoters, estimated the cost of staging the event, at an unconfirmed venue, at more than $1 million.

Potts also stated that event promoters have reached an agreement with Sportsmax and ESPN Television to have the action broadcast delayed on those stations.

According to Potts, the only way boxing can move forward is with a united front, a sentiment Trumpet echoed.

Yesterday, Manswell was at the media conference for the first match-up since he lost his first round Prizefighter International Heavyweights series match to Cuba's Mike Perez earlier this month in London.

The T&T heavyweight, though, is upbeat despite losing his last two bouts. Manswell pointed to Mohammad Ali as his inspiration.

"(His) greatest victories came after losses," Manswell reasoned, saying he is ready for a comeback. His opponent has not yet been decided, but he disclosed that that person is likely to come from Russia or Europe.

Ramnarine is currently in South Florida "training hard", according to Potts.

His father Boxu Potts, matchmaker, founder of Unified Promotions and adviser to the T&T Boxing Board of Control (TTBBC), announced the Board's support for the event. The elder Potts also hinted that there are people within the boxing fraternity who are trying to stop the event from coming off.

He also clamoured for the return of Pro Am cards, and threw out what seemed like a loosely-veiled invitation to amateur Tariq Abdul Haqq, a medallist at last year's Commonwealth Games, to fight on such a card.

The event is being partly sponsored by Ma Pau Members Club, while the younger Potts said the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs has "pledged assistance", and they are also appealing to corporate T&T to support the event.

http://www.badlefthook.com/2011/5/24/2187195/pacquiao-vs-marquez-november-bernard-hopkins-cleverly

Also listed on Boxrec.com.

So if he get he ass knock out in early June how will he fight in TT.
Anyway I sympathise for him, it's a rare moment of activity. I wonder who he supposed to be sparring with?

Boswell back in action against ManswellThe Boxing TribuneTim Harrison      0Updated Jun 2, 2011 3:38 AM ET

More coverage
For more boxing news and analysis, check out The Boxing Tribune.

Veteran heavyweight Cedric “The Boz” Boswell (34-1, 26 KO) will be back in action on Saturday, less than three months after his last victory. Boswell is set to take on Kertson Manswell (20-2, 15 KO), from Hollywood, Florida’s Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Following a 10-round TKO loss to Jameel McCline in 2003, Boswell, now 41, was inactive for nearly three years. An August 2008 victory over Roman Greenberg breathed some life back into his career. Against limited competition, Boswell is riding a 13-fight win streak since his return to boxing in 2006, winning 10 of 13 by way of knockout. Following his March 18 unanimous decision victory over former heavyweight world champion Oliver McCall, Boswell is looking to extend his winning streak with a victory over Manswell.

Manswell, of Trinidad and Tobago, has lost his last two fights after winning his first 20. His May 7 loss came in the Prizefighter Tournament against Cuban heavyweight prospect Mike Perez, the tournament’s eventual winner.

Manswell outboxed

Manswell outboxed in Florida
Published: Tue, 2011-06-07 20:41

Kertson Manswell T&T’s heavyweight boxing champion 34-year- old Kertson Manswell suffered his third defeat in a row on Saturday night. Manswell, a former amateur champion, was defeated at the hands of 41-year-old Cedric Boswell, who moved his record to 35 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws. Manswell lost the bid to win the WBC Latino and NABA Heavyweight Titles. He took the fight after a last minute call and travelled to Miami, USA by himself to fight this fight.

Boxing trainer Alric Johnson and Special Advisor/Matchmaker Boxu Potts were to travel with him to work his corner but arrangements fell through and they did not go. Boswell, who dominated the fight also give Manswell a verbal and physical lashing. Manswell switched to the southpaw stance to attempt an even greater tactical advantage but Boswell proved too strong and ready. Judges awarded Boswell a unanimous victory with identical scores of 98-90.

After the fight, Boswell confirmed he injured his right shoulder: Potts said his position remains that Manswell has to be properly evaluated in order to salvage his career and that he has to stop taking last minute calls out to fight. Potts said this is what the boxing fraternity does, it is using Manswell as a journey man for other fighters when it should be the reverse. This method would not do Manswell’s career any good. Potts declared that his doors remain open to Manswell and that he will assist him in any way he could.

manswell is now officially a journeyman.  he started his pro career too late and had poor management so the odds were against him from the start.

Three fights in two months
==================

Manswell to face ‘White Tyson’
By WALTER ALIBEY Sunday, January 22 2012

TRINIDAD and Tobago’s Heavyweight boxer Kertson Manswell will be involved in three main contests this month and next month before an expected world title bout at the end of the year.

He faces German Ruslan Chagaev, Australian Kali Meehan and American Chris Arreola in three non-title fights.

The bouts will be Manswell’s first three assignments since signing a 30- month contract with American boxing icon Roy Jones in August last year.

Manswell will begin with a clash against Chagaev on January 28 in Hamburg, Germany. Manswell has an impressive record of 23 wins in 26 fights with three losses. Ironically, the three defeats took place in Germany.

Speaking to Newsday recently, Manswell said he is eager to re-enter the boxing ring following his impressive win by unanimous decision over Guyana’s Mitchell Rogers at the Woodbrook Youth Facility in December last year.

The TT fighter explained that his aim in the Rogers encounter was not to knock him down in the early rounds as has been the trend in the past but to go the entire distance with the powerful Guyanese as a form of preparation. “People have been criticising me because I went the entire distance but there was a reason for that. This clash with Chagaev had been arranged a long time ago and I opted to get some much needed training.

“People have been saying that I am not a good fighter technically but statistics will show that I am one of the most technically sound fighters in TT. At the amateur level I won a medal at almost every championship that I went to including the Commonwealth Games, so what else do they want to see to be convinced of my ability,” Manswell said.

The bulky Tobago-born fighter has since changed his management team and included former national boxer Michael Drayton as his coach for the fights. His training regime was also changed as he has been practicing almost everyday of the week in the ring.

Manswell said he was not too concerned about Chagaev, although the Uzbekistan-born fighter has a record of 27 wins in 30 fights inclusive of 17 knockouts.

Chagaev is known popularly as the “White Tyson” and is a southpaw with just two losses to his name.

In Manswell’s second fight on February 14, he will take on Arreola- a lanky six-foot, four inches orthodox fighter with a record of 34 wins in 36 encounters. The American also has 29 knockouts and two defeats and is known as “The Nightmare”’

He will complete his first three fights of 2012 with a clash against Australian Meehan on February 28. The Aussie boats 31 knockouts in 38 wins.

He has had just four losses in 42 fights. Manswell said his bouts will not be easy ones as his managers have embarked on a programme that will take him to a world title.

Well his career is officially over.

He showed no real defence, combination punching and very little offensively. He telegraph that right hand like it was coming from Japan.

When in trouble he showed little wit as to how to move and defend himself.
He'll probably have a future as an opponent or sparring partner. I hope is age have him looking so ponderous in the ring.

Video here. Had to force mehself to keep looking after the fifth round.

Once again he takes a fight as a replacement, when he is not properly prepared....... When will he learn. I still wish him good luck though. All it takes is one win in these kind of fights to propel him into the lime light.
