Windies losing due to abysmal bowling
« on: May 22, 2005, 09:03:56 PM »
They are putting a lot of pressure on the batsmen. Pakistan seem to love de bowling of Hinds, Bravo, Gayle and Bradshaw. Dey have been pounding on Bravo. Bravo is too attacking a bowler to be effective in one day cricket at this time. He is perfect for Test Cricket...always nibbling around de off stump and forcing people to get caught behind. One day cricket requires bowlers to keep it tight by bowling defensively...pitching up de ball on middle and leg (man eh go flick yuh fuh four and six so), using yorkers and de slower ball. Bravo tries yorkers but they often end up as full tosses. He still young though. Collymore can keep it tight and Collins occasionally. But seriously, Gayle bowling spin vs Pakistan, India or Sri Lanka? Surely we could have a little more forward thinking than that. I thought Cuffy was an excellent one day bowler but not a good Test bowler. His height caused extra bounce and made strokeplay difficult....kinda de same style like Ambrose and Garner. Washington tall and so is Lawson. We should look at those two as fast bowling options instead of wasting time and hoping dat Hinds and dem doh get belt in de one days. Is Washington ready fuh dis? Only BK can tell. Imagine Bradshaw give up 3 consecutive six in de last over and we loss by 22.

Yes, de worse part by far is de bowling, but de major problem is dat de team can't put together a cohesive performance. When de bowling does happen tuh come good, de fielding or de batting does buss. When de batting good, de bowling bad etc.

De fielding is getting better...the batting is coming along in de Tests. De centuries, doubles and triple show this to be true and not jes from Lara. De bowling eh show meh nutten except fuh de fus innings in de Guyana Test. It went back to normal in de second innings along with Browne's dropsiness.

I won't count those centuries in the test to highly...... Especially those in Antigua. Granted that it was great acheivements on the batters part, the pitch contributed to the majority of it. That Antigua pitch should be dug up or used for one days only.

On paper WI probably ahve one of the best batting lineup but can never seem to produce when it matters most. Forget the bowlers we just plain and simply need bowlers.

I find it strange that the Wi team willing to invest in 4th and 5th Class seamers and not willing to try out a B class spinner.

Although the batsmen are inconsistent, they still perform at times.  However, the bowlers are struggling and need some help.  Hopefully, the Board can use former players such as Holding, Walsh, Ambrose, Garner, etc. to help the younger guys.  Also they need to utilise spinners since we no longer have four quality pacers.  I really can't say who can help the spinners and provide advice since there are not any really successful spinner in Windies cricket during the past 20 years.  There is only Rangy Nanan and that is only at the regional level with the exception of 1 test match.

Test cricket is about getting 20 wickets at less runs than what you score.  Every time I check the scoreboard it appears that our batsmen has taken more wickets than our front line bowlers (and they still expected to bat).  It is a shame and a sad statement on West Indies cricket when we say our most recent succesful test spin bowler is Ranjie Nanan and he can't even claim to have played a full Test series.  This comes on the fact that when you look at the most succesful bowlers during the regional tournaments there are always a couple of spin bowlers at the top.  But do the WiCB pick a spinner.  No, but they stick with a couple of half dead slow medium-fast bowlers who continue to break down. Go figure.

Get rid of the Board.
