New airship operational in two weeks
Saturday, July 29th 2006
THE Special Anti-Crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago (SAUTT) collected its new crime fighting skyship on Tuesday.
According to SAUTT in a press release yesterday, the Sky Ship 600 was purchased from the Airship Management Corporation at a negotiated cost of US$2.5 million. The cost of the unit was offset by the trade-in of the malfunctioning Aeros 40B airship, it added.
At present, the new airship is being outfitted with equipment and should be operational within the next two weeks.
The first skyship as well as the second one, which was leased, are still being housed at the Cumuto Barracks awaiting removal by the Airship Management Corporation.
