Jabloteh, Joe Public in deadlock.[/size]
San Juan Jabloteh kept a three point lead at the top of the T&T Pro League Senior Division table, after a lucky 0-0 draw with second place Joe Public, at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, on Saturday night.
The match was played almost throughout in a slight drizzle, and the Eastern Lions probably did not like the water, as they failed to take advantage of at least three clear chances against a Jabloteh line-up that was without influential midfielders, Trent Noel and Kerry Baptiste, both on suspension.
The main culprit for Joe Public was striker Gary Glasgow, who wasted two glaring chances, the easiest of which was a tap in from less than eight yards, from a Sean Cooper right side pass in the 77th minute.
Joe Public’s Colombian goalkeeper, Alejandro Figueroa, was only tested once by Jabloteh, a scorching free-kick by left back Ian Gray, taken with his left foot, which Figueroa parried away to safety. The 0-0 deadlock was the second one this season for the teams, whose first round match ended the same way. With the point earned, Jabloteh inched to 35 points from 16 matches, while Joe Public moved to 32 points.
Stars fall again.[/size]
Third placed North East Stars wasted another chance to narrow the gap on the leaders, falling to a third straight defeat, 2-1 to United Petrotrin, at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground. Kennedy Hinkson put the Petrotrin ahead in the 60th minute, but Joseph “Guti” Peters tied the score within a minute. With the seconds ticking away in added time, striker Sylvester Teasdale turned hero for Petrotrin when he tapped home to help his team even a 1-0 first round loss.
Connection slip up.[/size]
Yesterday, defending champions, W Connection failed in their build to make use of the slip up by the top three after they were also held to a 1-1 draw by Superstar Rangers at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar. Kittian George Isaac put the Savonetta Boys ahead in the first 45 minutes, while Errol Mc Farlen Jr got a share of the points for Rangers with a strike soon after the resumption.
Starworld recover nicely.[/size]
Over at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, fifth placed Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA (24 points) also stumbled in pursuit of the top clubs, going under 3-1 to Starworld Strikers, who were coming off a 5-1 drubbing from Defence Force on Tuesday.
Tobago waste lead.[/size]
At the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago United's home advantage was nullified when they were out-scored 2-1 by the Defence Force. Noel Williams gave the Tobagonians a great start in the fifth minute, but Christian Baptiste rained on their parade with items in the 31st and 64th minutes.
