TT "B" team in Youth Cup replacement.
By: T&T Newsday.

A Trinidad and Tobago "B" team (President's XI) will replace the Dominican Republic as one of the 28 participants at the 2006 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-16 Youth Cup, scheduled to take place here from Monday to August 26.
No reason was given by the CFU for the late switch but the move prompted a slight alteration in the grouping of the teams.
Trinidad and Tobago were grouped with Grenada, Aruba and the Dominican Republic in Group E.
However with the inclusion of a TT reserve outfit, Guyana will take the place of the Dominican Republic in Group E while the national B team will fill the void left by Guyana in Group A.
In related news, matches in Group E will now be staged at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Arima and the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, due to the unavailability of the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.
The outfield at the Mucurapo venue is still under repairs and the organisers were forced to schedule the opening round of matches at Arima, with a double-header on Monday.
Grenada and Guyana will meet in the curtain-raiser from 3 pm while Trinidad and Tobago will face Aruba two hours later.
Next Wednesday, Aruba and Guyana square off from 3 pm at Marabella followed by the TT-Grenada contest while, on August 18, the hosts will face Guyana at 5 pm, two hours after Aruba battles Grenada.
But the Hasely Crawford Stadium will be available for the semi-final double-header on August 24 and, on August 26, the third-placed play-off and final matches respectively.

Goalkeeper Jesse to lead U16s in CFU Youth Cup.
By: Shaun Fuentes.

Goalkeeper Jesse Fullerton will captain a Trinidad and Tobago  Under 16 Team which will begin its quest to qualify for the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championship in game two of the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup against Aruba on Monday.
Fullerton, the goalkeeper from Queen's Royal College and the T&T Football Federation's 2005 Youth Player of the Year, was given the armband by team coach Anton Corneal when the squad of twenty (20) players was selected. The team will face off with Aruba from 5pm in the second game of a double header on Monday with the opening match taking place between Grenada and Guyana from 3pm. Due to the unavailability of the Hasely Crawford Stadium, both games will now be contested at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
And joining him in the squad is little midfielder Sean De Silva who caught the eyes of many with his efforts during the 2005 CFU Under 15 Youth Cup. Forward Daniel Joseph, who could turn out to be T&T's main threat on goal along with Sheldon Bateau, Mark Rivers, Leston Paul, Stephan Knox, Brenton Balbosa, Chad De Freitas, Stephen Chang and Daniel Cyrus who all have previous Under 15 experience.
Corneal, also an assistant with the T&T Senior Team and the TTFF's youth development officer, sounded optimistic ahead of the tournament but warned that his main focus was getting the players to be switched on for matches in its entirety.
He described the squad which was selected following weeks of screening sessions throughout T&T along with joint sessions with players from the previous Under 15 team.
The players who have been selected earned their sports through hard work, the right attitude and that sign of potential to become very good players in the future, Corneal told TTFF Media on Friday.
It has not been an easy pick for any player and it's now up to them to show their worth in competition.
With several of the players attached to youth teams of local professional clubs, Corneal, a former national player himself, didn't want to make any predictions but his words suggested that the team can be expected to be positive in their style of play.
You can expect a very positive approach to the game from these players. They have been working on utilizing the size of the field and you will see that in their games.. that desire to play complete football. At least from their past experience, they know they need to play from the start to finish and not too  long to feel out the opponent. We must try to settle from early and play the game, explained Corneal who saw the team get past a South East USA Combined team 5-1 and 5-0 in two training matches last week at UWI Grounds, St Augustine. Corneal has former national midfielder Hutson Charles as his assistant with ex-national Ross Russell as the goalkeeper coach and Christopher Gouveia as manager.
Following a short live in camp at Petrotrin, Point-a-Pierre this past week, the team will now train this weekend and move into camp at the Caribbean Tourist Villas, Woodbrook from Saturday.

excellent news...twice as many youths getting international exposure. you can believe some of these 'B' players may be better than their 'A' team counterparts. As simple as this looks, by given some overlooked kids a chance to play, this tourney could have saved us from losing a couple of talented youths. T&t B is my side!! dey taking the whole ting.....

Wha' about A team benchwarmers go want to play on the B team  ;D

We had youths in training to make a second team? Who coaching them? The coaching staff have to focus on two set of games? Maybe the dutch coach might take the ''b'' team and leave Corneal with the ''A'''team and we will see the difference between foreign and local coaches for real...lol

It seems a lot of us just looking at the pros and not the cons of this move,we could very well end up being the laughing stock of this tournament, especially if these two teams get eliminated, this suppose to be a big advantage for us,a country like ours with an abundance of youth players, good talent at those ages i can't see why we can't produce two good teams.

I can't understand why this country struggleing in Football,we always had very good youth teams, that fed our senior teams, they were coached by local Coaches, foreign Coaches just made them better, imagine we afraid of Grenada,St Vincent etc.

Coops...if both teams get lick out the tournament early then we in a mess. And that is good to know..We cannot run from that. We never want young players to feel embarassed, but they will recover...they are youths. Anyhow..I doubt they will be laughing stocks..not even the B team. But if they not cutting it, or the program in a mess we need to know so we can do something about it.

fear of embarrassment shouldn't be a reason to not send a 'B' squad. In this instance I think the pros very much outweigh the cons. In fact, I don't consider there to be any cons........there's always a possibility of losing...if we sent 1 team, 2 teams 10 teams....... that's football...that's life........not necessarily a "con" specific to this case....just my opinion.

The more U-16 players that get exposed to quality tournaments it is a win win for them, there are no losers here.
At this age there are a few sleepers who may run underneath the radar, they may not get noticed the first time, but as confidence grows with more games they will blossom.
Our senior team was the oldest in the WC , we have to hope that we discover  a few diamonds
in the rough so that our average age in 2010 drops below 29. ;)

Tobago to play in CFU Under 16
Friday, July 7th 2006

A Tobago representative team, will, for the first time participate in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-16 tournament next month. The event will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago and is expected to attract representative teams from all the football playing countries in the region.

In preparation for the tournament, the Tobago Football Association has been conducting a series of screening sessions aimed at selecting the best available talent to ensure that Tobago has a quality team to represent the island in the tournament. The third of these screening sessions is scheduled to come off this Sunday 9 July at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet from 9 a.m.

Tony Keith, one of Tobago's most respected coaches has the responsibility for conducting the screening sessions and he told the Tobago News that "so far we have been attracting players from all across the island and we have come across some amazingly talented youths who have the strength, size and natural skill which are the basic requirements for transforming them into top-class players".

Keith stressed the need for Tobago's young players to have an on-going development programme and more playing experience against opponents of a higher level, in so doing their development will be more enhanced, he added.

Keith said that players for the Under 16 screening must be born before January 1, 1990.

But this is true, I forget they were supposed to have this team aswell. So they was really going to blank the youths after they make team and train...then last minute they include them after DR pull out.

WOW TTFF again.

Coops de exposure go do wonders in the long run.  Fear of failure is not an option...not for Sport not for life.  If somebody see you or anyone as a loser, dat is their reality not your's.  If we lost to more talented teams and gave we all...is still something to build on.  Practice and training does only show so much.  It have some men who does shine in practice and den play tata in games and vice versa.  Give de youths a chance.
