Gov't gives financial boost to regional associations.
By: Shaun Fuentes.

The six regional associations of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation as well as the Secondary ad Primary Schools League received a financial boost from the Ministry of Sport on Tuesday towards its development and running of administrative affairs.
Minister of Sport Roger Boynes, spoke glowingly about his government’s commitment towards the development of the game as he announced that the associations (North, South, Central, Eastern, Eastern Counties and Tobago) will benefit from financial assistance to the amount of $100,000 each. The Primary and Secondary Schools League will receive the same amounting to a total of eight organizations receiving the assistance.
Boynes presented a cheque f $400,000 to TTFF President Oliver Camps at the Ministry’s Office which will be distributed to the respective parties and a second presentation of another $400,000 will be made in due time.
Boynes boasted “We have realized the need for the development of the games at the regional association level and the primary and secondary schools league. While we were all fascinate over the success of the Soca Warriors, we realize the need for emphasis to be placed on the lower levels and we are committed to doing that to ensure that we are in fact successful in our bid for South Africa 2010.”
He added that initially after announcing last month that the associations would receive $50,000, after follow up discussions with the TTFF, his ministry decided to double the amount as they intend to see the local club structure revitalized. This is all part of the development process of the sport that the Ministry is contributing towards, Boynes explained.
Camps added “We are extremely grateful for this assistance and we want to ensure you that it will go a long way towards the development of the game at the regional levels. We have spoken about this for some time and finally things have materialized. We are talking about clubs at the grassroots level will now be able to benefit from better organized competitions with more at stake and associations will can improve its administrative facilities. These are no longer the sole responsibility of the Federation which has had to concentrate on our football at a higher scale. In saying that, we will guarantee the ministry that the monies will be properly dispensed and be accounted for as we intend to ensure it is well utilized.”
Eastern Football Association Secretary Neville Ferguson spoke of how he intended to use the funds.
“I am quite certain that the Eastern FA will put this money into good use particularly in terms of the upgrade and preparation of the grounds and I can say the same for the other associations. Because they all have problems with the facilities. This will go a long way in terms of the proper conduct of our matches as well as the administrative operations of the association. Then you also have to look at equipment and other things because several clubs we see have sometimes two and three footballs to prepare their teams,” Ferguson said. He noted also:” That fortunately for us we have had the generous assistance from the Emerald Apartments which is part of the Warner Group of companies. We have benefited tremendously over the years from Mr Warner and we surely hope this continues even in light of the added assistance.”
