BG T&T will enter its fifth year of sponsorship with the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) by making a financial contribution of $350, 000 for the new season. BG T&T will also sponsor the Secondary Schools Girls Intercol Football competition and will be involved in the launch of the new SSFL website: www.ssfl.org.
These announcements were made yesterday at the official launch of the 2006 SSFL season at the Mariott Hotel at Invades Bay. Present at the event were Aleem Hosein, BG T&T Head of Government Relations and Public Affairs, Ewing Davis, President of the SSFL, Judith King-Pereira, School Supervisor at the Port-of-Spain and Environs District Office and the Mucurapo first eleven football team, last year’s North Zone champions.
Hosein pointed out the signifigance of BG T&T’s involvement in the forth coming season with the aim of improving football in T&T.
“We recognize our corporate responsibility to give assistance to the development of programms in T&T and enriching the lives of young people for generations to come.” he said, “The SSFL provides a positive environment for the players to pick up important values such as teamwork, fairplay, respect for authority and hard work.”
Davis thanked Hosein and BG T&T for their assistance and credited companies like them with the popularity of the league.
“The continued success and improvement of our league can be attributed to our relationship with the corporate sponsors.” he said.
The highlight of the launch was the presentation of the SSFL website’s homepage by Shane Correia of Web and IT Solutions. The new website, which will be launched on Thursday, is designed to provide a “portal’ of league information and promises to be a means by which to record SSFL history and achievements.
The website will also give an opportunity for players to improve their chances of being awarded football scholarships as universities and coaches will have the means of reviewing and tracking players’ statistics and performances.
Correia went on to call for more corporate assistance to fund the website so that players could reap the benefits of international media exposure.
The 2006 season of the Secondary Schools Football League “kicks off” at 3:00pm on Thursday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium with St Anthony’s facing Queen’s Royal College. Last Year’s North Zone champs Mucurapo will play Fatima in Game Two at 5:00 pm.

So who tells British gas that the best players wont be playing in the league this year again ?? Who tells the youth man who is hoping to get a chance to repeat to complete his certificate that the school probably wont consider him as he wont represent them as he is on the national squad ? ..that it would not serve the school's interest to have a paper player ??
Will a major decision like the one proposed affect other potential sponsors ?
