Mucurapo at the death.
By: Kwmae Williams (Guardian).

A sweetly-struck free-kick from substitute Kern St Louis saw North Zone champions Mucurapo edging neighbour school Fatima 3-2 at the death, yesterday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
St Louis’ 90th minute item was a dagger to the hearts of Fatima, as the defending Intercol winners looked like stealing a win after coming back from two goals down to tie the match.
Following in the footsteps of other Fatima versus Mucurapo encounters, the match was action-packed, with the teams going for each other’s throat from the outset.
Fatima settled first, playing attractive football as they kept “Compre” pinned in their half for most of the match’s opening period. They were unable to capitalise on the early pressure though.
It took them a while, but Mucurapo eventually hit stride and took the lead in the 37th minute, when Al Muhammed’s free-kick from the left was knocked down for nippy forward Kevon Piper.
Unmarked in the box, Piper made no mistake from close range.
Just before the half, national Under-16 player Brenton Balbosa almost got the equaliser but hit wide after being put through on goal by national team-mate Stephen Knox.
After receiving a talking to by coach Errol Mc Farlane at half-time, Fatima looked a more aggressive team in the second period. Against the run of play, however, they found themselves going further behind, when indecision between goalkeeper Adrian Foncette and defender Elijah Belgrave in the 48th minute gifted striker Ricardo Peltier a clear shot on goal. He greatfully accepted, calmly slotting home under no pressure.
Fatima refused to roll over though, and pulled a goal back in the 68th, another national youth team player, Jean Luc Rochford, getting up well to head home a near-perfect corner from midfielder Kieran Marin.
Two minutes later, Chad De Freitas, who worked hard all evening, was on spot to pounce on some shoddy defending from “Compre”. Kieran Marin’s low cross was allowed to run across the box to De Freitas, who had nothing to do but put the ball in the net.
Fatima pressed for the winner, with T&T’s top-scorer at the recently concluded Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Youth Tournament, Stephen Knox, twice being denied by goalie Denzil Cazabon in the space of a minute.
In the end, it was Mucurapo who delivered the knock-out blow, grabbing all three points when St Louis decisively beat Foncette with what has to be a candidate for “goal of the season”. In the first match of the day, Qian Grovsenor scored in the 67th minute to help St Anthony’s beat QRC 1-0.

Yesterday’s Results

Mucurapo 3 (Kevon Piper 37th, Ricardo Peltier 48th, Kern St Louis 90th) vs Fatima 2 (Jean Luc Rochford 68th, Chad De Freitas 70th).

St Anthony’s 1 (Qian Grovsenor 67th) vs QRC 0.
