North East Stars striker Oneke Ford netted four goals for his team in a 5-0 drubbing over Starworld Strikers on Sunday in a TT Pro League round 22 match at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground, Sangre Grande.
The ‘Sangre Grande boys’ at home, playing under the watchful eyes of new Technical Advisor Everald ‘Gally’ Cummings—over-shadowed Starworld with some exciting build-ups.
The ‘stars’ took an expected lead in the 10th minute when Oneke Ford threw himself at a Kendall Velox cross to head in his first goal past Starworld keeper Marvin Phillip.
The ‘Sangre Grande boys’ continued to attack coming close on a few occasions. The 16th minute saw Velox being provider again, when he sent Shandel Samuel through in the 18-yard box, but he flicked his effort just outside the upright.
In the 27th minute, it was North East pouncing again, as Stokley Mason’s free kick fell to Samuel who headed over bar. The aggressive striker Samuel then returned the favor to Mason with a short pass in the 18-yard, his shot cracked wide of the upright.
The speedy Oneke Ford doubled the score, as he was on hand to capitalize on a defensive error by Starworld’s Marlon Stoute in the 35th minute when he fired a right-footed shot past a flying Marvin Phillip—North East up 2-0.
The day wasn’t going Starworld’s way as players like Lindsie Sherwood, Andre Charles and captain Marc Borde had a hard time dealing with North East’s Kendall Velox who seemed to be everywhere causing trouble.
The Starworld team fell short of a man in the 39th minute, when Dexter Franklyn was red carded for pushing the North East ‘hero’ of the afternoon, Oneke Ford in the face after the whistle was blown for a foul on him.
The San Fernando based team took to the dressing room two goals down and a player short to add to their miseries.
The resumption of play saw Starworld Strikers doing more of the attacking play, forcing a couple of saves in the 46th and 48th minutes from the North East keeper Shane Mattis.
The North East players wanting to impress ‘Gally’, surged forward, as they sought to wrap up the game and in the 49th minute Oneke Ford completed his hattrick. The goal came when Shandel Samuel made an incredible run down the right side pulling the Starworld defence and passing to unmarked Oneke who kicked into an open goal.
The home team enjoying the better ball possession, continued to attack.
Midfield ‘General’ Kendall Velox had a cracking shot saved in the 53rd minute by Starworld keeper Marvin Phillip. The Starworld custodian couldn’t repeat the feat after Velox worked his way through two defenders and passing to an unmarked Odeke Ford and the player completed his beaver trick with an easy tap in past keeper Phillip.
However, the hero hobbled to the sideline after injuring himself with his last goal of the game and was replaced by Kenwin Matthew.
Things then got worse for Starworld as they lost their keeper Marvin Phillip in the 57th minute, for an off the ball incident, as he was accused of verbally abusing the referee. The match referee didn’t hesitate in giving Phillip his marching order leaving the team two men short.
The Starworld outfield player Errol Charles was given the gloves and had to make some decisive saves with his hands and feet as North East tested he with some quick shots.
The San Fernando based team fell short of another man as captain Marc Borde was served the red card for verbally abusing the referee as well and he received a 2nd yellow card.
The North East team now large and in charge scored a 5th when Velox provided a low ball to unmarked Samuel who blasted his shot past sub-keeper Charles to put the score at 5-0 in the 87th minute. The North East Stars keeping their fourth place position on the standings with this win moving to 40 points.

Starworld trio called before disciplinary committee.

Three players from San Fernando Starworld Strikers have to answer to a disciplinary committee on Wednesday at the TT Pro League’s office at 5:30pm.
The trio was issued red cards by referee John Danouse in Sunday’s match between North East Stars and Starworld Strikers at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground.
The first to see red was Dexter Franklyn in the 39th minute when he pushed North East Stars Jamaican striker Oneke Ford in the face after the whistle was blown for a foul on him. Franklyn had won the initial free kick for his hair being pulled by Ford.
In the second half, Starworld fell short of two more players, when Marvin Phillip was given his marching orders for verbally abusing referee Danouse in the 57th minute for what he thought was an offside goal by North East.
Starworld’s captain Marc Borde was the third man to go after receiving two cards in a row-seeing his yellow turned red. The original yellow card was for a foul he committed in midfield and he saw red when he verbally abused the referee.
Referee Danouse didn’t hesitate on giving him his marching orders—the Starworld captain took it to the extreme as it seemed he swung his hand at referee Danouse before walking off the field.
Borde, together with Franklyn and Phillip will know their faith on Wednesday The disciplinary committee would be lead by Chairman of the committee Wayne Caesar, following which a ruling would be made.

The former Trinidad and Tobago custodian and present coach of the San Fernando based team Starworld Strikers, Michael ‘BROW’ Maurice is back in goal with his Pro League team on Tuesday. The former national keeper was forced to take up the vacant position in goal after losing his two keepers- Adisa Alleyne to injury and Marvin Phillip on suspension.
The Starworld coach and now player told, ‘TT Pro League Media’, “This decision needed no taught as we are without a keeper for tomorrow’s game. I didn’t take the decision to use defender Errol Charles in goal as he is needed in defense. I lost Adisa Alleyene last week due to a fractured jaw and now Marvin Phillip on suspension after Sundays’ game against North East Stars. We are not going to allow Tobago United to break their losing streak history against us-and with Michael Maurice in goal they have no chance of scoring” assured Maurice.
The former goalkeeper’s last competitive match was back in 1998 when he was a member of the Police team. Starworld Strikers would face last placed Tobago United on Tuesday at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Tobago.
