Presentation College, San Fernando and Moruga Composite played to a 1-1 draw in their BG TT Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) south zone fixture, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, yesterday.
Despite the draw, 'Pres' went to the top of the standings in the southland, on seven points, followed by the inactive Naparima (6), on a bye yesterday, while Princes Town Senior Comprehensive are third on four points.
'Pres' pressed relentlessly in the early session, and were rewarded in the 30th minute when skipper Robert Als blasted past goalkeeper Sheldon Dogan during a scrimmage, in a game played on a slippery surface caused by early afternoon showers.
Moruga quickly settled down and equalised three minutes after the resumption when Javon Forde slotted home for a 1-1 scoreline, after Presentation goalkeeper Keron Ramsaroop failed to collect cleanly.
The best opportunity for victory was a header from Presentation's Arvid Applewhite in the 68th minute. His effort, though, went over the cross bar with only goalkeeper Dogan to beat.
In the east zone, San Juan Senior Comprehensive got past Toco Composite 2-0 in a competitive encounter, at the Bourg Mulatresse ground in San Juan. The Toco Composite keeper laboured throughout the match, keeping out some brilliant shots, but the resilience of San Juan eventually paid dividends as Neil Mitchell scored twice to bury Toco.
In the other east zone game contested yesterday, home team El Dorado were held to a 2-2 draw by Hillview College. Hillview scored first, but El Dorado equalised and then went up by one. However, five minutes from the end, Hillview struck back to earn a share of the points. Each team received two yellow cards.
The other scheduled east zone contest, between Malabar and St Augustine at the Larry Gomes Stadium, was not played because of a waterlogged field.

Under tremendous pressure from Malick Senior Comprehensive, Queen's Royal College held out for a 1-1 draw, yesterday, and their first point of the 2006 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone competition.
Only some desperate defending, some poor finishing from the visitors and a serving of Royalian pride at the QRC Ground, on Hayes Street, prevented the homesters from continuing pointless in the round-robin competition.
Surprisingly, Jerrel Britto, the school's go-to man and the only QRC footballer to register his name on the score sheet to date, notched a most important go-ahead goal in the 67th minute that gave the Royalians some hope of an unlikely victory.
But an attack-prone, compact Malick side, coming off a triumph against St. Anthony's College in the last round of matches, dominated possession and eventually the toll of relentless forward forays broke down the QRC defence enough for Robert Primus to tower above a sea of bodies to head home in the 86th minute.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
